Jetstar *is* expensive. Actually, the difference in their fares and PAL’s promo fares (min 3 days, max 8 days) is minimal. The difference between their fare and Cebu Pacific’s and Tiger Airways is BIG. However, I agree, they have a better flying schedule then Cebu Pac.

I haven’t tried Air Asia yet, but I’m considering taking it for a trip next year. Their fares are good, but aside from that, the reviews I hear about them aren’t that stellar, mostly about flight cancellations without prior notification, flight delays, etc. But I think they’re working on improving their services, particularly the delays. My only complaint is that they’re also based in Clark, not NAIA.

I’ve taken the bus & train route between Singapore and KL. It’s a great way to travel, I have to say, specially now that they have first class buses. Also, from KL, you can take the bus or train to Thailand! Well, it takes about 24 hours, but it should be quite and experience.

Yes, I see Cebu-Pacific will be soon be plying that route…but at some unearthly hour. Without Tiger Airways, the best bet is to fly JetStar Asia, which is a little pricier but still way better than PAL or Singapore Airlines. I recall (a long time ago…) that I paid over USD300 just to fly from Manila to Kota Kinabalu, one way. And check out how much it costs to fly that short distance between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, with Malaysian or Singapore Airlines (they have a monopoly on the route). Thank goodness for players like Tiger Air and Air Asia.

By the way, Air Asia are still flying to Clark, albeit from KL…but if anyone is keen to get to Singapore, they could fly Clark to KL, and then get the train (or bus) down to Singapore. The train costs about USD8 one way. The train travels thre times daily (and there’s heaps of buses).

I noticed that too, when they posted their Winter schedule: no flights to Manila. Their Manila-Macau flights had some problems earlier in the year, due to some necesserary documents or whatever that they failed to comply with or something. But the Singapore flights continued then, and eventually, the Macau flights resumed. I haven’t heard any reports about whether they’ll still continue with the flights in October. I’ll keep you posted if I do

I think with this promo, it’s usually 5-6 months ahead. You just have to make sure you’ll travel by that date or pay a lot in change fees. But otherwise, great value!
