I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

these are really helpful. Thanks!
I wish I could visit Australia soon.
Regarding bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, and payslip – should you furnish all those documents? I only have credit card docs and payslip.
Hi Sarj! I think that would be enough, but I think it’d be better if you can provide bank statements. Good luck on your application!

hey thanks for this post. i might fly to adelaide by may. how long will it take? i’m thinking of applying on feb.
From the date of the pick up, it can take anytime between 5 days to almost 1 month. But that one month wait was during the holidays, and they had a huge backlog. Good luck on your application!
i wanted to apply for a visit visa to Australia. I’m just wondering, how much money should be in your bank so that you can be approved for a visa. And how much am I going to spend just to apply for a visit visa?
Hi Hans! I don’t think there’s a set amount required for your bank account. I guess you would need enough money deposited there to fund your stay in Australia. Maybe $1,500 would do if you’re going to be in Australia for 3-5 days. The visa application fee is around Php3,500, while the courier fee (to be paid to the FedEx/Air21 guy when he comes to pick up your application) is around Php300. Good luck!
hi! nena, this is my third time in applying, and i want a multiple visa, is it required for me to request for it?thanks..
Hello Thess! In my mother’s case, we requested for a 6-month multiple-entry visa for her. We just included that in her application’s cover letter. Just make sure you can fund for your multiple visits and that you have a reason for applying for one. Though it was weird because they granted me a multiple-entry visa without me asking…

Hello Nina,
My Autralian boyfriend wants me to apply visa so I can visit him because he is so busy at work and can’t fly here in Philippines. He will be the one to sponsor everything.
It is my first time to go there, i wanna make sure, is it advisable to ask an agent to apply visa for me? Because this is what my boyfriend wants me to do.
Please help me and tell me what to do.
Thanks a lot.
