[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

margie, nung na receive ko ung new passport ko kinabukasan nag submit na ako ng form 929 para maupdate ung passport details ko. sabi nila after 2 to 3 days maaapdate ung passport and you can can check it in VEVO however I checked mine in VEVO many times but it didnt appear in the VEVO site. So I went back to the embassy February 3 to check and the officer said its not successfully updated yet so I got worried because my flight will be the next day February 4 and I told him what will happen since my flight will be the next day then he said it is fine just bring your new and old passport and bring the VISA Grant Notice that you received though it’s not yet in VEVO.. So if ever man na hindi mo din makita ung sayo sa VEVO at hindi mo maprint you need to go back to the embassy to follow up because yung saken hindi nila naupdate kaagad..during your flight sched..if feeling mo alanganin ka pa kung successfully updated, bring your NEW and OLD passport and your VIsa Grant notice with you during the travel..so ilang months nakuha mong multiple Entry VIsa? ako kase 3 Months multiple Entry visa..

Margie mas maganda kung pupunta ka dun ng maaga kase pag pumupunta ako dun nag sstart ng dumami ang tao from 10 am onwards and you have to wait for your number to be called kahit sa information ka lang. Rache, actually requirement talaga ang police clearance sa application. Ung iba kase hindi na nag submit either NBI or Police Clearance. But if I were you mag submit ka na ng Police Clearance. Enough document is much better kesa sa sila pa ang mag sabi sayo..One year naman ang validity ng Police clearance..

documents from the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) contains an ordinary paper pero yong sa NSO security paper gamit nila di basta basta ma fabricate kasi sila (NSO) lang ang meron noon. hope it helps. Gud luck and God bless.

Since nag renew lang naman ako ng passport, ang napalitan lang ung passport number..so un ung nilagay ko. dun sa form 929 may option doon kung pinalitan mo lahat ng details or number lang ng passport ang nabago then you will answer a question. Don’t forget na ilagay mo ung new passport number mo dun sa form 929 and check mo kung tama yung nasulat mo…

Rache diba nung pini picked up un doc mo, may binigay sila sayo na duplicate air21 receipt dyan mo makita ang tracking number .kulay green on the right side above the receipt myron tracking number which is 12 digits. minsan no results sya pag hindi pa na arrived sa hub ng air21 sa manila kung friday pa sya na pick up, im sure dyan na yan sa emb kc ang sa akin fri na picked delivered to Au emb tues, d2 mi mindanao. ung sa akin visa update lang kc nag renew ako ng new passport, flight ko next week to melb saan ka sa AU.goodluck sa app mo im sure grant yan

Good day to all, Is it necessary to submit a bank statement in applying for a TV kahit may sponsor ako? Bago pa lang kac ako nakanap ng means to earn money, i’m doing a telecommuting job as an independent contractor (editor) so technically d ako employed meron lang kami verbal agreement and we’re paid hourly basis thru paypal. Pwd kaya mag sulat na lng ako ng letter stating about my work and my income? Ano pa po ba need from my sponsor aside from the employment letter, payslip, bank statement, rental fee sa apartment niya? Please help po. Thank you.
hi hellenK, you can submit your bank certificate whatever is your money in the bank. tungkol sa pag sulat ng letter i think no need na, coz in your application form meron naman dun question if you are employed, just fill that up and you just state there that u are an independent contractor. but if u can ask certification of employment from that company it will be better. about your sponsor mas maganda kung magbigay sya ng statutory declaration. para proof that he will be responsible for your accommodation, etc. while youre in australia. need din nya ipadala ang any identification nya like passport or driver’s license nya. photo copy lang but signed by justice of peace. if u have other questions just feel free to email me cb_5397@yahoo.com

I think u don’t need an agency when you lodge your application. you can either walk-in via center(cebu/allegro, makati) or call up air 21 for pick-up. hope that helps.

Hi sis Rache, congrats! After that you can book your flight anytime soon. If you want to make sure you can check your visa at Vevo. If you want to have a stamp on your passport you will apply for it. Same as applying tv, you need to fill up form 1405 then copy of your visa grant notice, copy of your passport biopage and your payment.

Rache, yung visa grant notice mo wag mo iwawala kase yan na ung pinaka copy mo ng visa, wala ng visa stamp sa passport. electronic visa na kase..saan ka sa Australia nyan..Im here in Adelaide pero papunta na kami ng Sydney sa Sunday..ilang months ka mag stay dito??

God is great! if u dont want your visa to be stamped in your passport it can be, you can just bring your visa grant notice with you together with your passport when u are in the airport. ganun kasi kmi when we went to sydney last aug of 2013. and we’re in a tourist visa and business visa.

Hi Isabella..We’re on the same boat..On my first TV, I was granted 5 working days after I lodged it. Then, I applied for my 2nd tourist visa last Feb13, ’14. After a week, I was expecting that it would be granted the same as my first application but i haven’t heard any news. I was a bit worried, then a friend (aussie dn ang bf 🙂 ) told me that I dont have to worry since the processing time frame is one month. Just yesterday, exactly 2weeks after the lodgement, PIASI sent a msg that my docs have been dispatched. Hopefully next week, malalaman q n ang result. Of course, crossing my fingers (including my toes, lol ) na granted ulit.

hi isabela is this your first time to go to australia? mbuti at nakakuha ka ng multiple entry at walang 8503 condition (no further stay) yes u can get married in australia with your visa that u have right now sis. coz your visa has no further stay condition you can change it to another visa while youre in australia and your visa doesnt expire yet. keep blessed sis.

hi rache this is stella yun condition na 8503 ay maki2ta mo rin kung saan mo nbasa na youre not allowed to work and you can study for 3 mos. wala kang 8503 condition kya maganda ang visa na bnigay syo kht 3 mos lng. yun naman nakalagay sa itaas na 3 mos stay ibig sabihin allowed ka lang mag stay sa australia for 3 mos, but because u dont have 8503 condition you can apply for an extension (before your visa end) to stay in australia ng ilang buwan pa, pro madalas 1 month extension lang ang binibigay nila. but in my case i didnt asked for an extension anymore coz ayaw ko na masabi nila na nag over stay even if im allowed to have an extension, pra sa susunod na pag apply ko ay mdali kmi mabigyan uli ng visa ng anak ko. tawagan mo lang ako kung meron ka gusto malaman ito# ko 09202281333 and my email cb_5397@yahoo.com. keep blessed sis.

At until 3months lang pero multiple entry sya pwede ba magstay ako dun and d na bumalik pag end ng 3 months kasi ilolodge ko naman yung partner visa ko after ng kasal. Hi Jonee,pls ask ur bf to provide invitation letter/statutory declaration stating ur relationship, that he’s going to provide all ur expenses during ur stay in Oz. Also he needs to make assurance that you won’t commit any work and don’t overstay the period of the visa. He must provide certified true copies of his passport bio page, driver’s license, evidence of funds signed by justice of peace. I’m currently here in Perth in tourist visa so hope to catch up with u here. Last time ng.apply aq tv on January and fee was 5,600php.

Hi Trish, ya I experienced ma.offloaded about over 2 years ago. First time q holiday overseas sa Malaysia, 20 years old pa aq nun so kabado tlaga. Wla pa work kc kakagraduate LNG sa uni so tlagang binuwisit tlaga ng immig haha,, tinanong aq Ano Gagawin q sa KL, was there with my bf for a week. Hiningan aq copy ng hotel accomm nmin at wla aq naipakita kc dq nman alam na ganun pla mgyayari..tanong din cla Ano natapos q at anong school,, dq nkaprepare so Khit pics nmin ng bf q Wala aq naipakita at camera q nasa check in luggage. Hiningan aq ng invitation letter from my bf at hotel accomm. Meant to arrive KL just an hour after bf arrived from Oz.,so antay tlaga aq mkarating xa dun pra mkausap na Nasa pinas pa aq. So ng.sent by fax invitation letter at accomm nmin right after pag dating Nya sa KL, bumili aq ticket again then they allowed me to fly at night. It was horrible! Prepare mo pics mo with ur sponsor if meron and return ticket, visa note at be calm 🙂

yes trish u should prepare ur visa, 2 way ticket, if u have a sponsor you can ask him/her to write a letter that s/he will support all your travel expenses and s/he will accomodate you. Bring along a photocopy of his/her passport. I was offloaded when I went to travel to 2 asian countries if I’m not mistaken I had a return ticket but it was open, there was no specific date of return and I just quit my job during that time. They suspect that I will look for a job overseas. I was lucky that the personnel at the PAL office didn’t let me pay for rebooking fees and for another ticket for my return.

I heard these days they are much more demanding. they ask ids or some requirements to prove u can support ur travel expenses even having ur visa granted. Anyway, wish us luck. Btw, are un in perth for a travel or staying there for good?
To those who submitted their tourist visa applications Feb or March, did you receive a confirmation from the Embassy that they received your docs? My docs were picked up March 1, but did not receive any text or email. I called the VIA center, they said that based on their records, the documents reached the Embassy on March 6. Napapraning ako.
Hi Grace, the courier picked my documents up on March 1st too, the embassy received it on March 4th. U can track it to the courier site (air21) Until now I have no news about my application. Give it a time. It usually takes 2 weeks for the new applicants. I’ll send them an email on Friday pag wala pa rin.

Our documents were picked up on March 1st. I actually called Air21 on Feb 26th but they picked my application on March 1st. I am planning to email the embassy tomorrow pag no news pa rin. Nakakaba! This week is supposedly tthe 2nd week after lodging our application. Pag may kulang ba sis dun sa documents submitted does it take it long? does the embassy get in touch with the applicant?

hellenK: I’m from Bulacan. Air21 picked it up late in the afternoon of March 1, so I assume it did not reach their cut off and they just forwarded it March 3. I actually emailed the Embassy already because their website said that if you do not receive a confirmation, chances are that they did not receive the application. No reply yet. I am okay with no reply, as long as they approve our TVs hehe.

Hello sis helleK,first tv q last Nov.22,2013 was granted or 3 months.Exactly 2 weeks nung ginrant nla..Last March,17 I lodged my second tv waiting dn q tulad nu..Sis wait nu lng basta complete docs nmn iggrant nla yan..& kpg my kulang nmn sa docs nu my possiblility na mag email cla sainu for additional docs.Tlagng nakakakaba kpg first timer.Aq nga kht twice q medyo kinakabahan prn aq..Anyways,san ka sa OZ sa Goldcoast aq sis 🙂 Have great day …xx
I never heard anything from them sis. Dapat nung tuesday 2nd week na after lodging. The embassy received my application on March 4th. Kaya mejo kabado kac til now no messages or status from them. im still keeping my fingers crossed sana granted at Sana next week meron na. hehe! Thank u sis and wish u good luck too. HellenK: We finally received our Visa Grant Notice this afternoon. What a relief!
Congrats sis, wala pa rin ung sa akin. I actually emailed and called the embassy. i havent received any replies from the emails i sent. pero sabi sa kin nung customer service via ctr depende sa naghahandle na case officer merong days lng naga-grant na minsan more than a month or exactly one month. mine is still on process pa daw at nasa embassy pa rin. pag d namn daw nag-email if may kulang na dox.wait ko na lng.but i think i have sent to0 many documents including my family’s passport/ids. statement; bills, etc.kaya siguro natagalan lol!
