Has traveling changed you?

It’s been five years. Five years since I made the decision to stop talking about traveling and actually travel. Half a decade may seem like a long time, but looking back, it seems like the years passed with lighting speed.

With travel being a huge part of my life for the past 5 years, it really is no wonder that it has somehow molded me into the person that I am today. For one thing, traveling has made me realize that whatever I set my into is within reach. I just need to set my mind to the goal I want to achieve, and I will find ways to make it happen.

This also resulted to me have the confidence I never had. While I still have my insecure moments, I’ve learned to assert myself and I’m no longer as shy to ask questions or to express my opinion. This confidence helped me be a better person, and enabled me to rise up to the challenge and do things I never thought I’d ever do.

Traveling has also given me a clearer picture of what I want to do with my life. Though I have to admit that I am still uncertain about some things, I now have a vision of what I want to happen in the future. The path to my dreams might have me holding off traveling for the moment, but I know will and always be a part of who I am.

Fellow Blog Sherpas has shared how traveling has changed them.

Claire Algarme of First Time Travels shares that “traveling has changed my perspective of places and things, made me more patient and enduring, given me a glimpse of the characters of people I thought I have already known. Traveling is empowering.”

Jennifer Hattam of The Turkish Life said she has learned to assert herself, gained a broader perspective on world events, increased her empathy and became more stern and assertive.

Kiran Keswani of Indian Bazaars found that in this crazy and chaotic world we live in, there are still pockets of serenity where you can find the peace and quiet you’re looking for.

How about you? How has travel changed you?

great entry, nina. ๐Ÿ™‚ it got me to thinking how i’ve changed during my travels. i think… i’ve become kinder; traveling entails meeting different kinds of people and i’ve learned how to accommodate various personalities, cultural quirks, etc. strangely, traveling also makes me a lot more intolerant of bullshit and people putting up pretensions. when you meet a lot of people, you tend to figure out whether someone is for real or just faking it and i’ve become even more impatient with having to deal with the latter because GDI life is too short to have to put up with other people’s insecure shit.

ayun. hope you get to travel extensively again soon, nins. ๐Ÿ™‚

“stop talking about traveling and actually travel” – this is so true and we are a believer;-p

And I couldn’t agree more with ANNA.

Traveling is indeed very educational and truly expands your horizon.

Cheerios for more travels and more beautiful moments!

Yes! Traveling has changed my life!

It taught me patience, endure every kind of transportation, appreciate what’s available, be street smart, to decide important things at a snap of a finger, to pack only what’s needed, to be a cowboy(eat whatever is available even in the most unsanitary way! haha)

It also taught me to be understanding to the different cultures in the country and respect it, it is fun learning what they do that seems taboo to me.

But yeah! I think traveling has made me a better person now!

nice entry! and a very good topic to ponder about this Holy Week. I believe travel should change a person – one way or another. I for one learned how to prioritize, to be strategic, to enjoy, to save money because of traveling. Travel also taught me to be more patient with people I am dealing with.

This post got me thinking, and I figured that when we travel we seldom realize it but it teaches you a thing or two all of the time.

There are two phases in which traveling changed me. When I was single and traveling with my fiance, it taught me culture and independence (esp. from my parents!). Now that we are married and have a son, traveling is our way out from our chaotic world at work and home. When we travel, we are carefree ~ my husband and I become our son’s brother and sister. We learn together and play together. We rest (thus I have clearer skin after a vacation ;p). Really, people should travel more ~ they’ll see that they will be more productive if they take the timeout. ๐Ÿ™‚

Traveling has made me more tolerant and understanding of different cultures, traditions and religions – something which for me is difficult to grasp on an armchair journey through books alone. I have become more aware not just of our differences but also of the common values we as human beings nurture. Travel is truly a great teacher!!!

    Hi Nina,

Traveling has made me appreciate the simple things in life. Things that I tend to take for granted back home, you know the basic things in life.

More so, my travel gives me the opportunities to be “ME”, beyond what other people think I could not possibly do.

    Cheers to our “ITCHY FEET”!

just a travel rookie here, but my sense of adventure and my itchy feet always keep me awake at night, planning itineraries of travels that are 6months ahead. What a great post, insightful and personal. ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope to learn more lessons too, in my future trips. More power! Keep writing. ๐Ÿ™‚
