Finally, after several years, Jetstar Airways is adding additional flights from Manila to Singapore and Singapore to Manila. For the longest time, they only have one daily flight in and out of the Philippines, which was rather frustrating. Jetstar is my airline of choice when flying to Singapore, since I much prefer Terminal 1 of the Changi Airport than the Budget terminal (which doesn’t look budget, actually).

Malaysia Airlines’ ASEAN Pass

Posted by nina under Airlines, Malaysia

The ASEAN Pass is a set of four prepaid vouchers that would let you travel to up to four Southeast Asian cities served by Malaysia Airlines for as low as US$229 in economy class or US$729 in business class.

Of course, the big question is, what’s the asterisk?

Due to a couple of runway incidents at the Caticlan airport a couple of months ago, all flights to the small airport has been diverted to Kalibo, which has a longer runway and can accommodate bigger aircraft better. All flights, except Seair’s.

Times are tough and for most, travel is the last thing on their mind during a recession. However, I’ve been looking forward to this trip since last year, and there’s no way I’m putting this off, recession or no recession! Of course, this means keeping the expenses down and sticking to my budget (unlike what I did three years ago in Thailand).

Often, the biggest expense in any trip is the airfare. Though admittedly, airplane tickets prices have gone down drastically with the onset of no-frills airlines, it still eats up a huge chunk of one’s travel budget. That’s why it’s best to book tickets ahead in time or to take advantage of the airfare promos offered by the airlines. You’d have to always be on the lookout for these promos, because you can really save (though in some cases, it *can* be more expensive — booking way ahead often leads to flight cancellation or re-booking).

So how did I get round trip tickets to Singapore for less than US$100?
