JustWandering by Nina Fuentes | Travel blogging from Manila, wandering through the Philippines Asia and Australia

It’s been a while since I last stalked browsed Jetstar’s website (which probably meant I now have a life), and I was surprised and quite pleased to see Globe’s G-cash logo.

For individuals on the move, or those without Internet access, GCash in one’s mobile phone provides fast, convenient and direct booking of Jetstar Asia tickets.

Ms Chong Phit Lian, Jetstar Asia’s Chief Executive Officer says, “Statistics show that Singapore is now attracting younger visitors as traveling has become more affordable. We want to bring greater convenience to our customers so what better way to reach out to this age group than through their mobile phones. We are glad that Globe Telecom is proactive and equipped with the technology to handle what we want to do.”

GXI President Rizza Maniego-Eala notes,”This groundbreaking joint venture with Jetstar Asia further expands the capabilities of the GCash mobile platform as it diversifies its ecosystem, increasing public access at the same time. Our partnership with Jetstar Asia brings Filipinos to greater heights and more places around the world.”

This is certainly good news for Filipino travelers who don’t have their own credit cards. Well, they can pay by cash at Jetstar’s office in Cubao, but with Gcash, they can still enjoy the convenience of booking online.

So I was skulking around Jetstar’s website again and discovered two things:

  1. The introduction of the StarClass for International flights on the A330; and
  2. Starting November 23, 2006, they will start flying from Melbourne and Sydney to Bangkok, Phuket (November 24), Vietnam (November 30), Denpasar (December 8) and Osaka (March 25, 2007)

This is probably every backpacker/budget traveler’s dream come true. Of course, there’s Tiger Airways who flies from Singapore to Darwin, but Jetstar will be offering more flights to Asia from southeast Australia.

I’m actually giddy about this. On the other hand, I really should get a life.
