Only in the Philippines

Karla tagged me, and now I’m sending you this postcard from the “land of the brown, l’exotique and the natives,” as Bryanboy would say.

Yes, it’s an actual postcard, and it was sold in a bookstore specializing on Filipiniana books and items.

Obviously this was a gag photo. The real would have been on a scaffold with Guardia Civils on each corner. Some historical trivia, the orginal garotte used to execute Padre Burgos. Gomez, and Zamora survived until it was burned to cinder during a fire, sometime between WWII and the EDSA Revolution.

Now it’s a meme, intended to celebrate the Philippine’s 109th year of independence. Actually, this post is already 3 days late, but it’s never too late to celebrate, no?

Here’s how the meme works:

  1. Download the scanned front (800px, 500px) and back (800px, 500px) of this postcard and resize to fit your blog.
  2. Put some sense into this very old postcard by adding some text. It can be serious, it can be funny. Anything goes!
  3. Title of the entry should be Only in the Philippines!
  4. Share the love and tag five other proud Filipinos.

Tagging Anna L., Sinta, Melo, Ferdz and Ronnie.
