Travel plans for…2008?

Where do I go next?Since it’s already June 1, it means that 2008 is now less than 6 months away. Which, of course, technically means that planning for 2008 travel is not that silly anymore.

According to the sorry state of my finances, I am pretty much grounded for the rest of 2007. Definitely no overseas trips for me this year. I can probably do a couple of local day trips or maybe one 3-day weekend trip if I’m lucky.

To console myself, I have now started listing the places I want to go to in 2008.

There’s Hong Kong because (I am somewhat ashamed to admit it) I haven’t been there yet. Since I’m already there, I might as well cross over to Macau, right? I might try the Sky Jump at the Macau Tower, but eh, I’ve been known to chicken out when I’m traveling alone. (You’re probably thinking why I didn’t consider crossing into China. I purposely left mainland China out because it’s such a big country it warrants its own trip.)

From there, I am thinking of flying on to Cambodia. I’ve planned my Cambodia trip for January of this year; I even bought plane tickets for KL-Siem Reap-KL via Air Asia. I completely forgot about it, and only remembered on the date I was supposed to be flying back to KL. Oh well, at least I bought the tickets on sale so it didn’t hurt so much. I’d stay in Cambodia for 4 days, 3 of those to be spent at the Angkor Wat.

After that.. I dunno, Vietnam, Laos or Myanmar? Christine’s photos of Hanoi piqued my interest, while traveler’s account on Laos and photos of Myanmar are really pulling me in. I can probably go to one of those countries, two maximum, but not all 3. (I feel iffy about riding buses and trains when I’m traveling alone.)

Fly SEAirThen down to Thailand. I know, I’ve been to Thailand before, but Bangkok warrants another visit, and I’m thinking of finally heading on to Ko Samet or maybe down to Krabi or Phuket. One thing’s for sure, I’m taking the train down to Penang, Malaysia. From Penang, I want to take the Aeroline bus to Kuala Lumpur. It’s been 7 years since I my first and last visit to KL, and it’s high time I visit it again. From there, I go down to Malacca, then last stop in Singapore.

On the other hand…

I also want to go to Kota Kinabalu. I’m thinking I can go from Clark down to Kota Kinabalu. From KK, travel towards Brunei, maybe see some gold trees (haha) and meet up with friends. From there, on to Kuching (where Cayce will give me a tour *hint hint* ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

From there..Maybe on to Bali, then last stop in Singapore before heading back to Manila.

I’ve not yet set a definite date, but I am certain it will be during the latter half of the year, possibly in September or October. Or maybe in November and celebrate my birthday overseas? Hmm. I am planning to allot a month for this trip.

Also, I’m looking into Bangkok Airway’s Discovery Airpass for traveling within the region. Or maybe go to every Air Asia destinations. Haha.

Where are YOU going in 2008?

Well, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmmar is not a good place to visit this time or even till 2008. I am here now in Chiang Mai, Thailand and supposed to go for a tour in those countries but I was adviced to cancel it this time due to serious political problems.

Wow that sounds like a plan! I like it. I definitely want to explore more of my backyard (ie Asia) during the next two years. For the rest of the year, I have 2 more intnernational trips planned: Bali (just a weekend jaunt) and Beijing. For next year I don’t know yet but definitely Cambodia!! If the group I’m going with is amenable, I want to make it a longer trip this time and include Laos too. Like you, I also want to explore more of Thailand since I only got to see Bangkok and Ayutthaya and there’s so much more to see.

Ajay: I’m pretty sure magtatagal kayo sa Thailand. Excited na ko for you! ๐Ÿ˜€

Ron: Really? Hmm, that puts a damper in my plans. But eh, a lot can happen in a year *crosses fingers*

Christine: Thank god for budget airlines, no? I hope there would be direct flights from Manila to Siem Reap in the future!
