Ranting on the side

I just find it so funny that there are still people who can’t understand the concept of budget travel. Okay fine, it’s probably their first time to travel or they’re don’t travel as much. But geez, how hard is it to understand that you can’t expect too much if you pay so little.

What prompted me to write this post are comments like these:

  • Their idea of breakfast is pathetic: toast & coffee!
  • They didn’t serve us any food, instead they’re selling it!

The first one obviously comes from a review of a hostel. Most hostels don’t even serve breakfast. Bear in mind that hostels aren’t hotels. Hostels are able to keep the prices down by just providing the basic necessities. For $10 a night, you’re expecting a big breakfast? Dream on.

The second of course, are complaints about budget airlines. For some, budget airlines are still a pretty new concept. Full service is expected, despite paying the fraction of the cost of a ticket for a full-service carrier. Uh huuh.

Whether you’re paying for plane tickets or buying something, always remember: you get what you pay for. Some products and services are priced higher for a reason. It could be because of the name brand, but it can also be because of better quality.

But hey, if you get 5-star service for a cheap price, good for you! All I’m trying to say is not to expect too much.

Gah, I haven’t written for so long I’ve forgotten how to write a coherent sentence.
