What kind of traveler are you?

I am such a sucker for these quizzes…

Your are a “Mid-Venturer Traveler”.

You have an insatiable intellectual curiosity, abundant common sense, and a friendly, outgoing personality. This combination of character traits usually contributes to success in your career. You are likely to hold a senior position of responsibility in your company and will continue to advance in the future. You’re also an opinion leader. Others look to you for guidance and direction on what to buy, choices to make in their lives, and the kinds of trips that they might like to take.

You love to travel, especially to foreign destinations and you seek new experiences and new destinations for almost all trips you take. You enjoy being physically active on trips but unlike your pure venturer friends, you don’t want to take such extreme vacations and are more likely to plan your trips—set an itinerary of places you want to visit and schedules when you will be there. You also insist on a comfortable bed at night (sleeping under the stars generally doesn’t interest you), a warm shower, and meals that you can trust rather than taking a chance on native foods. You listen carefully to the unique travel tales of your friends and associates, or read heavily, to learn about the hidden, out-of-the-way places that have not yet become popular or have only recently gotten some publicity. Another name for your group is the jet-set. Your interest in what’s new and what’s happening leads you to be one of the first to visit destinations that seem to have a new ambience, or book a few days at a new spa or resort you read about in a travel magazine, or tour a country that until recently was closed to visitors.

History holds a great fascination for many mid-venturers. But if you’ve seen Buckingham Palace and the Eiffel Tower, or traced Paul Revere’s route in New England, you don’t need to repeat the experience. Rather, you’d prefer to stop in lesser-known cities or seek out an ancient monastery or old fort that may not be listed in most guidebooks.

MEDIA HABITS: Typically you read more than most—books, magazines and newspapers—and watch TV less. Consistent with your travel interests, you particularly like fact-based television shows or dramas in a historic setting, and programs that explain the workings of some of our modern marvels. You hold strong opinions about much of what you see happening in the world, especially politics, and strongly prefer commentators who agree with your views.

SHOPPING: You like technology but typically you will not be the first to try out new hi-tech products. You’re likely to get on the bandwagon when the new product or service has shown that it has some relevance to your daily business or home life. But you are still willing to buy these items long before they have become so popular that they have dropped dramatically in price.

SPORTS: Exercise and good health habits—proper diet, some use of vitamins and supplements, and following a disciplined routine to get enough sleep and exercise, even when you travel—is likely to be part of your daily routine.

Suggested trips:

DOMESTIC
* Take a luxury pack trip through Colorado’s Ute Mountain Tribal Park.
* Kayak around Kauai.
* Consider a rafting trip down the Grand Canyon, or a mule ride up and down the canyon.
* Take a helicopter trip on the big island of Hawaii to see sights that few others do.
* Drive on route 49 through the gold country of California.
* Snorkel or scuba dive in one of the less-popular Caribbean islands, such as Bonaire.

ABROAD
* Scuba dive around the Bay Islands, Honduras.
* Drive the coast of Portugal.
* Take a multi-sport tour of the Netherlands.
* Balloon around northern Thailand.
* Spend a week at a dive resort in the Maldives.
* Check into a Dead Sea spa.
* Go truffle sniffing in France or Monaco.
* Take a gastronomic tour of Lyon.
* Rent a National Trust property in the English countryside.
* Track the footsteps of the Ottoman Empire in Turkey with a private guide.
* Take a cruise on a small luxury line such as Seabourn or Silversea, with customized shore excursions.
* Check out Malaysia’s Langkawi, for its remoteness and its very comfortable accommodations.
* Pamper yourself at the St. Regis on Bora Bora.
* Explore the sights of Jaipur, India, or Kyoto, Japan.
* Take a luxury tour of Bhutan.

Well, the Media Habits part is pretty much spot on.
