Project Morocco

When I published my Morocco travel expenses, friends started messaging me expressing their surprise at the figures I presented and asked for tips on how to plan a trip to Morocco.

I promised them I’d give a copy of my spreadsheet, which has our itinerary, budget, list of accommodation we considered staying at and links to various resources. Since it’s Christmas and all, I decided to share it with everyone! So here’s a little something from me to you: [download id=”8121″].

It’s nothing fancy, but it should be enough to get you started. It’s my way of saying thanks for all sticking with me through all these years ๐Ÿ™‚

I noticed that the airfare seems to be the most expensive part of the budget. Did you consider other options, like Air Asia (London/KL) to Morocco perhaps? I also want to go there but I am thinking of doing it in tandem with London to save on airfare (Cebupac: Manila – Kuala Lumpur Manila; AirAsia: Kuala Lumpur – London – Kuala Lumpur; Easyjet: London – Marrakech – London)

Thoughts? Or does this seem like a tedious itinerary?

    Merry Christmas!

Yes, the airfare is the biggest hurdle when traveling to Morocco, specially if you’re coming from Asia.

In our case, we *had* to fly Etihad for reasons not related to the blog (just had to say that). Flying AirAsiaX to London or Paris then flying one of the European budget carriers to Morocco is the cheaper alternatives to going there, but as you say, it can be tedious and would end up eating a lot of your time. There’s also the issue of the transit visa in either countries, though you might be eligible for the UK transit visa concession: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/customs-travel/transitthroughtheuk/visa-to-transit-landside/

Thanks for this tip, will really consider it. I have a lot of time since my Morocco plans are still in their infancy, lol. Thanks again, your blog is just so full of useful tips, as in!

        Merry Christmas.

        =)

    Hello Nina,

I have been reading your blog for a while. I decided to make one because I want to connect with some bloggers. I have not been finished uploading since it takes time.

I am interested to go to Morocco also since I know its VOA only. How much was the Visa and regarding your itinerary thru Abu Dhabi, did you need a transit Visa?

Btw I am already looking forward to go to India, Nepal, sri Lanka and Bhutan in April 2012 and Australia in June 2012. If you have been to these places maybe I could ask some tips.

    Thanks. Jason

No need for a visa to UAE since we did not pass through immigration.

Of the places you listed, I’ve only been to Australia. You can read my posts by clicking on Australia under the Destinations tab.

Wow that’s very affordable in Morocco! It’s going there that’s rather pricey though. Thanks for the sharing your spreadsheet. You’ve inspired me to venture out to continents other than Asia. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. nina Avatar

Go go AJ! ๐Ÿ˜€ One way to make the trip and the fare more sulit is to hit several countries in the same region. Kaso naman additional gastos!

    Thank you Nina!

I’m going to travel starting next year but still I’m planning out everything on where to go with my current income. Do you have any tips that you could share when planning a trip?

    1. nina Avatar

      Ask yourself the following questions:
      1) What do I want to do? Is there anything in particular that I absolutely must not miss?
      2) When is the best time for me to go? How many days can I spare for this trip?
      3) How do I get there and back?

Once you have answered those questions, look at the map to plot your route and check the guidebooks about the weather and climate during the time of your trip so you can prepare as needed. Hope that helps ๐Ÿ™‚

You are so awesome for posting this! You’ve probably heard this a million times before but I just wanna say… Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚ You may have just made my dream of going to Morocco a reality. With that said, you certainly deserved to win at NAPBAS. Congratulations. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the helpful post. I hope you don’t mind if I use your spreadsheet as a template when planning (and budgeting) for my future travels. It’s so concise and well thought out.

By all means! I make my spreadsheets available for download for that purpose ๐Ÿ™‚

Since u were already in Morocco, kaunti na lang budget airline(Ryanair) budget and u could have toured southern Europe

    1. nina Avatar

We could afford the fare to Europe, but we couldn’t afford to travel in Europe. Believe me, Europe was part of the plan, but we just couldn’t afford it just yet. It was better this way anyway, since we were able to go around Morocco. Europe will just have to be planned for another (and longer) trip ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. nina Avatar

Hi! I just want to know if there are any documents/paperworks that I need to prepare if I plan to go to Morocco for vacation or is my Philippine Passport good to go? Do you mind sharing your itinerary as well? Thank you so much. You’ve really been helpful.

To the person who commented, asking about immigration advice for traveling to Morocco, transiting in UAE, I’m so sorry, my spam killer ate your comment ๐Ÿ™

Anyway, it shouldn’t be a problem as long as you are confident (if you have nothing to hide, you wouldn’t be worrying, and it wouldn’t show in your body language). It also helps to show them your return ticket, hotel reservations, company ID or business registration. Once again, sorry about the comment thing, and please post again, if I wasn’t able to answer your question (I wasn’t able to read the entire thing before it disappeared).

    Hey Nina!

I saw in your expenses that the Sahara Sunset Camel Tour only cost you 800pesos when converted. May I know which tour you booked?

    Thanks!

    1. Nina Fuentes Avatar

Hi Danica, the sunset tour was offered by our hostel in Merzouga. It’s right at the edge of the Sahara, that’s why it’s very cheap. We stayed at La Source Inn.
