How to apply for an Australian Tourist Visa (2013 edition)

[UPDATE October 13, 2015] Here’s a guide on how you can easily, quickly, and cheaply apply for an Australian tourist visa online

[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in April 2013. This is geared towards applicants who holds a Philippine passport, though the preparation can be applied for other nationalities as well. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that I can’t answer all your questions. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.

Australian tourist visa

After almost seven years, I finally have an update to my now epic How to Apply for an Australian Tourist Visa series. I have written two posts on the topic, both garnering over a thousand comments, with one getting over 4,500! I have stopped replying to comments, since I don’t think I’m not the best person to be talking about it, as my knowledge of the visa process is largely obsolete, so the visitors have taken upon themselves to answer each other’s questions, with successful applicants coming back to share their good news and help others. It has become a mini forum of sorts and I have to admit I’m happy it turned out that way. I found it to be a great help when I took another chance to apply for an Australian tourist visa once more.

Before I get to the visa application process, here’s some background about me and my circumstances: I am a Philippine passport holder, and have applied and received a visa from Australia before. I have a valid US Visa, with used tourist visas to Canada, Japan, and Myanmar. I also have more than 70 arrival and departure stamps from various countries, and that’s just in one passport. I am single and have my own company registered with the DTI. I have a bank account and a couple of credit cards, and I have two sisters who live in Australia, one of which is a temporary resident and the other a citizen. My intention to visit was for a short break from life in Manila, and to hopefully visit places I missed during my first two trips to the Australia.

Step 1: Download and read the necessary pages, documents, and forms.

This is very important, I can’t stress that enough. It won’t do to just ask questions without reading these web pages and documents first, because you’ll look like an idiot. Majority of your questions would likely be answered by the information written in these files. All these are available for download at the Australian Immigration website, immi.gov.au, and they are all free.

There is no need to print all of those pages or forms (unless you prefer to read them off the computer), but the one thing you should print is the visa application form. It’s a fillable form, wherein you can type in your answers on the form itself and print it afterwards. If you use Adobe Reader to open it, it will not save the changes to the form, so fill it out only when you are ready to print and submit. However, if you’re using Foxit PDF Reader, it can save the changes to the form, so you can fill it out and edit it later on before printing.

Step 2: Gather the required documents

Page 15 of Form 1419, Part M is actually an application check list. The column on the left lists all the required documents, while the column on the right lists the additional documents you may submit.

Here are the documents I submitted:

  • Certified true copy of the identity page and pages with visa stamps of my valid passport
  • Recent passport photo taken within the last six months
  • Visa application charge in manager’s or cashier’s check

The Australian embassy do not affix visa labels anymore, so there’s no need to send your passport when you apply, unless you specify that you want a visa label. I would have done this, but the label costs AU$70.

Step 3: Gather your supporting documents

Here are the supporting documents I submitted. Remember that this vary depending on your circumstance. You’re not required to submit all of these, but it is advised that you submit as much supporting documents as you can to prove that you can fund your trip to Australia, and that you have a strong reason to come back to the Philippines.

  • Birth certificate printed on security paper
  • Certified true copy of my DTI Registration
  • Certified true copy of my BIR Registration (Form 2303)
  • Certified true copy of my Income Tax Return (From 1701)
  • Certified true copy of the invitation letter from my sister
  • Certified true copy of my sisterโ€™s pay slip
  • Certified true copy of my sisterโ€™s passport bio page and employee ID
  • NBI Clearance
  • Bank statement
  • Credit card statement
  • Itinerary

The Australian immigration require that all photocopied documents you submit are certified true copies. You can do this by going to the Notary Public.

If you look at the form, it doesn’t list the birth certificate as part of the documents needed. I included it anyway, since I have an extra copy. Also, when I called to have my document picked up, they mentioned something about the NSO and I asked if I still need to get another since I already have a SECPA copy. They said I can include my copy instead of getting a new one.

Supplementary reading: How to apply for birth, death, and marriage documents in the Philippines – National Statistics Office (NSO)

The NBI clearance isn’t really required either, but I included it since I have it anyway. I got it because it was required in the previous form, 48R. A medical isn’t required, but you may be required to get one if you are applying for a 6-month visa, or if you’re over 75 years old. The medical is only done through accredited clinics. From what I understand, you have to submit your application and use the reference code the embassy will give you when you go for your medical.

I also included a cover letter [Download sample of intent letter] explaining the purpose of my trip and that I wish to get a multiple-entry visa, since I want to make a side trip to New Zealand. This isn’t really necessary, since the form now asks for your trip’s purpose. You are also asked to provide an itinerary of your trip, though you are not required nor advised to make any bookings until your visa is approved.

Step 4: Buy a manager’s check for the visa fee

The visa fee is AU$115, which is Php 5,100, based on the conversion rate at the time. Please double check the fees and the conversion rate, as this can change anytime. I bought my manager’s check from BDO, since I have an account there. Based on the comments in the previous blog posts, there are banks that would not let you buy a manager’s check if you don’t have an account with them. Best to call and inquire with the banks in your area if they’ll let you buy a manager’s check from them even if you don’t have an account.

Step 5: Lodge your application

Required reading: Where to Apply

You don’t have to go to the embassy to submit your application. There are two ways to submit: you can either call the embassy hotline and have them pick up your documents or submit them in person at the VIA Center.

I opted to go with the call center, since it was summer and don’t want to be away for too long from my electric fan. Calling the hotline costs Php 32 per minute, not including the charges from your network provider, if you are calling from a mobile phone. My phone call took about 10 minutes (which included a long wait for them to finish a spiel, and another wait for an operator to be available), and cost me Php 339.29. If you’re going this route, listen closely at the start of the spiel, because there is an option to skip that and go directly to request for a pick up.

The courier fee for Metro Manila is Php 320, paid directly to the messenger who will pick up your documents. This fee covers both pick up and delivery after your application as been processed.

VIA Center have offices in Makati and Cebu.

Step 6: Wait for your visa

Visa processing takes about ten days all the way to 30 days. I called to have my documents picked up on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. It was almost 5pm when I called, and was told that they have already reached the quota for pick up the follwing day. My documents were picked up on Thursday, April 4. I received a text from the embassy that my documents were received on Monday, April 8.

By the third week of April, I was wondering what’s happening to my application. Someone who commented on my previous post said her application was received around the same time and she already has her visa. I started worrying when someone who submitted a week after I did said she already got her visa grant. That’s when I also found out that the embassy conducts phone interviews.

Apparently, they don’t do this to all applicants, only for those they feel they need to clarify certain answers to the application form. Worry changed to distress when I missed not one, but FOUR calls from the embassy. The first call was to our house phone, and my sister gave them my mobile number since I was out of the house. The first call to my mobile came while I was struggling to get off a packed LRT, so I had to cancel it. The next two came when the phone was in silent mode because I was at an event. You can just imagine how frantic I was.

I ended up calling the number, but it was the consulate’s trunkline number. I was told to just call the visa information number (845 9200). Because I do not know how to follow instructions, I called the hotline instead, and was told to send them an e-mail, which can be found on the immigration website. I sent an e-mail using the contact form there, and did not receive any response.

On May 7, just a day shy of one month since they received my documents, I called the hotline again, after getting no response or call from the embassy. The operator took pity and gave me a number to contact, which is the consulate hotline. I wasn’t able to talk to anybody, but I did get an e-mail address. I sent another e-mail, which again did not receive any response.

I finally got a text on May 14 that my documents have been dispatched to the courier for delivery. It did not mention if my visa was granted or not. My documents came the following day, and I was so relieved that my application was granted. It wasn’t a multiple entry visa, as I was hoping for. The visa was granted on May 10, and since it was a long weekend, it wasn’t dispatched until after election day.

Unlike before, the embassy not just issue visa grant letters for tourists. You need to bring this when you leave Manila, as the local immigration would ask for your visa before they stamp you out of the country. Also, instead of having a one-year validity, my Australian tourist visa is only valid until November 2013.

I hope you find this helpful. I would also suggest you check the previous entries, How to apply for an Australian visa and Applying for an Australian tourist visa, because the discussions over there are a great resource, as it have inputs from applicants with different circumstances.

You’re welcome to post your questions here, but please read the entire blog post and read all the documents I linked to before asking. Did you apply for an Australian tourist visa recently? How was your experience?

Hi Nina ๐Ÿ™‚ it is really nice to read your blog especially this topic of some tips in getting a visa. However, you’ve mentioned that you were planning to have a side-trip to NZ. You can still pursue that without having a multiple-entry visa. This is what I did. Since I planned to visit NZ as well and given the fact that I only had 3-month single-entry visa to Australia, I pushed through my plan. Definitely you need a NZ visa in order to go there. I went to Australia first, stayed there for a week, then flew to NZ and spent my holiday for 14 days. During my stay, I applied a Transit Visa going back to Australia, since I need to go back there because my flight back to Manila is supposedly from Australia via PAL. The moment I touched down to NZ, my papers were prepared and posted them to affiliated office of Australian Embassy in Auckland. They processed my Transit Visa for 10 days and before I left to NZ, i got my visa already through email :). You are a jetsetter Nina and I really admire you for that and nothing is impossible for you to be able to reach the world wherever you are ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck and always have a safe and blessed trip!

Hey Nina! Some additional info I learned during my Student Visa Processing!

1.) Via Center (along Pasong Tamo Ext.)
    – This place is quite convenient when dropping off documents! Just one jeepney west of the Magallanes Station (towards Fort Bonifacio), you’ll see a building with a large parking lot and a VIA center sign. Especially for first time visa takers like me who might feel paranoid that they’re missing something, the people in Via Center will give a check if your documents are complete. If they notice something is incomplete or doesn’t have a duplicate copy, they can photocopy the documents for you (for 2 pesos/page). They also send a confirmation that your visa has been lodged to the Australian embassy

    2.) Certified True Copies
    – While this is highly encouraged, Via Center actually allowed me to submit documents that are not marked for certified true copy but was verified by Via Center as one (especially if you brought the original). I don’t know if this is their thing only, but I suppose it helped saved some doc. stamps especially for small things like photocopies of passports and stuff.

    3.) Medical Check-up
    – I recently got mine and apparently they give you a print out voucher for the doctors and you must fill up forms 26 and 160 (also available in the immi.gov.au website)

    I hope this information helps!

    Hi Nina,

Thanks for your post. This is extremely helpful. How much are the rates to have the documents notarized nowadays? Where did you have yours certified?

    Thanks
    Carm

    1. Nina Avatar

Depends sa notary. May nadaanan ako na Php100 per document ang charge, meron naman Php 20 per page. According to one comment here, they can certify it at VIA, if you’re submitting it there.

Hi Rose, yes, you can apply for a tourist visa after lodging your application for migrant visa. As long as you can prove that you have strong reasons to come back to the Philippines, I think you’ll be granted a visa.

    2. Ashley Avatar

@ rose,I guess its better that u lodge ur TV & PMV at the same time. for sure granted and TV mo. Like what I did, apply me ulit ng 2nd TV & Partner Visa(spousal) at the same time. Then s Intent letter ko I told them n bblik ako b4 m expire visa ko to wait the result of my spousal visa..then s invitation letter ng husband ko,indicate nya n bblik ako to complete the requirements of my spousal visa. my TV is granted they gave me multiple entry with out 8503 condition. Good luck s application mo & for sure granted then yan

hi Ashley, I read your comments here, i just came home from melb 2 days ago and if ever i will apply for tv and my defacto visa at the same time so that is okay? so I will do that. sana ma grant uli visa ko this will be my 3rd time if I will be granted again. how much is the visa payment now for spousal because i think its almost the same with the pmv defacto visa . give some advice thank you.

      2. Ashley Avatar

Hello Mojs, I think yes its ok that u will apply ur tv & defacto at the same time and theirs a big chance ur visa will be granted coz u have a strong reason to comeback coz ur defacto is on process and u need to be in Phil when the decision has been made. Just make an Intent Letter and state the reason of ur visit why u want to travel to oz again and u will going to comeback here in Phil & wait the decision of ur defacto application and be with ur family.

I payed 119,500k for my spousal visa. When will u going to lodge ur tv & defacto? good luck & have faith nothing is impossible ur visa will be granted again

      4. Ashley Avatar

Hello Mojs yw, I payed it through manager check. if u going to pay it here in Phil u need to get mnager check but if ur husband will be the one who going to pay it with his credit card in oz, he must send u the receipt and the details of payments.

        Dear Sir/Ma’am,

        Good day!

I am applying for short term visitor visa to visit Australia

I am Rose…………21 yrs of age and a residence of Manila Philippines. Currently I am un-employed because I am a newly graduate last April 8 2013. My fiancรฉe Mark P supported me with sending money.

I got engaged to Mark P last December 1 2012. I am hoping that you will going to grant my application to visit my fiancรฉe because we want to celebrate together his coming birthday on Sept.2 & spend time with him.

After I lodged my tourist visa application, I will going to lodge my PMV this coming July after we complete all the supporting documents.

I do respect the Australian Law and do genuinely promise not to ruin the trust given with me by the Australian embassy. And I will going to return to my home country before my visa expire & wait the decision of my PMV application & be with my family to celebrate christmass.

Along with this I attached our itinerary during our holiday vacation together, emails, our pictures, western union receipt of Mark continued support , phonebill records, family pictures. As a proof that my intention is genuine & will never going to ruin the trust given with me.

        Thank u so much!

        Yours Sincerely,
        Rose

Yw mojs,It’s better to have ur medical at Cebu than manila & mabait yung panel doctor. just choose s Nationwide at the back of Cebu doc,2800ph medical fee.u going to undergo for physical test & the good thing on that clinic no need for u to get naked totally and the doctor will not going to check ur private parts. also urine test, xray, hiv test. Aside from ur reference # & HAP ID, the embassy will going to inform u that u need to submit as well another BC,MC & CENOMAR from NSO office and they will be the one who will going to forward ur documents directly to the embassy.

Also its better that u will going to attend CFO seminar s Cebu coz no need for u to go there very early unlike in Manila..u can go there @ 6am and get priority # for registration. every Wed & Mon the sched of seminar for OZ & NZ.

Hi ashley thank you once again for the info, I wrote it down. what time is the schedule of CFO seminar in Cebu on mon& wed. and how long? do I need to call them to be in on the list? do you have contact number ? if you have can I have it?so you mean before i go to my medical I have to bring my bc and mc from nso to the clinic so they will forward it to the embassy together with my medical results? Thank you very much. I wait for the answer and im sorry ha madaming tanong kasi gusto ko all documents are complete before I lodge. may personal Interview pa ba Ashley to the australian Embassy for partner visa?

      1. Ashley Avatar

Hi mojs, nope no need for u to bring ur MC & BC .if u already received an acknowledgment letter from the embassy through email. they attached their a request for additional documents from NSO then just follow the steps on how to request ur bc & mc . And about the medical u need to bring the medical request u need to print that,2pcs. passport id and ur original passport.

About the CFO seminar, u must be there as early as 6 am coz its 12 slot/country but 6 am would be ok kse 8 am start of registration. no need to call them for an appointment.Just go there directly. morning registration then afternoon group counseling seminar then after 1 on 1 interview.. So better u bring all documents pra di kna pblik2x.

here’s the list of doc u need to bring on CFO seminar, better to check their website for u to be 100% sure.

        * 2 pcs valid id
        * ur marriage certificate from NSO
        * birth certificate from NSO
        * picture together ( coz during 1 on 1 interview ur guidance counsilor might ask u some pic)
*registration form ( u can get that from cfo office)
*divorce papers ( if ur husband is divorce)

Wala ng personal interview s embassy when u lodge ur partner visa coz u need to submit 2 history of relationship, 1 from u & ur hubby. but sometimes ur case officer might call u to ask some info.& also 2 stat declaration from common friend who is Australian citizen

    Hi Miss Nina,

I lodge my PMV on March 20, 2013, and I have done medical requirements, My question is how long do I have to get a case officer? At the moment i’m 5 months pregnant, we were hoping that it might help and granted my spouse visa within 4-5 months.

So that I can have the baby in Australia. I’m in Oz for 3 months as a tourist visa.(May to Aug.) If I get granted while im in Oz is it possible that I don’t need to go back in the Philippines to get my spouse visa can I get it here in Oz.?

    I appreciate your answer. Thanks

    Hi Ashley,

Is CFO is required in applying tourist visa? And about the intent letter should I mention bf or fiancee? Napa-isip kc aq sa ilalagay ko sa intent letter ko dahil bago pa lng kami ng bf ko 3 mos pa lng kami but he want me to visit Australia and siya ung sponsor and he will provide eveything I need when I get there which one is better to mention fiancee or bf, I will lodge kc my application 3rd week of june kasi he wanted me spend my bday with him.

    Thank you,

    Agnes

    1. Ashley Avatar

Hello Agnes, I asked that question at CFO office b4 and they said not really necessary BUT it’s better to attend cfo seminar and for u to get that certificate specially u have a foreign bf. coz sometimes its very strict the immigration officer. Just put bf but don’t state on ur intent letter n bgo plng kyo mg bf/gf.

      2. Ashley Avatar

Hi mojs, on stat dec. ur friend must state how long he/she know the sponsor (ur husband) & applicant(u). then how convince they are that the relationship is genuine and their personal knowledge about the relationship.

Also they must send a copy of their passport biopage or birth certificate to show that they are an Australian citizen.

kinda bit busy this past few days that’s why I reply late..goodluck s application mo

Hi mojs, yw..I did it by my selves, save heaps of money kse never ako nag agency..what I did I kept on doing research the things that can help me on my application. then had my checklist about everything, & thanks God coz its granted twice and I don’t have 8503 condition & don’t have No Study condition as well. & my medical is all ok. and just waiting my spousal visa and hopefully when I comeback from oz theirs a result already. Just keep on praying and have faith in God.

        Janice

Hello Jane, what visa did you lodge? is it PMV or spouse visa? You kept on mentioning spouse visa kasi so i get confused. Anyways, if you lodge PMV/SP, you should be offshore, meaning you should be here in the Philippines when your case officer send to you your granted visa otherwise your visa will be useless. I assumed you are in australia now, once your CO contacted you then inform him/her that you are currently in OZ until august so he/she can send your visa when you are here. So as far as i know, you should come back here so you can get your visa.

    Hi Ashley and Nina

I have question regarding invitation letter of my bf kelangan ba talaga na i-mention nya ung source of living nya kc as of now he have work, but he’s like a consultant of he’s friend company so ala cyang payslip and ITR. He previously have business but currently is not operating dahil he got sick but he still have the registration and he can still open it anytime he wants, pede nya ba ung magamit as proof?

    Thank you both,

    Agnes

    1. Ashley Avatar

Hello Agnes, as what I remember my husband didn’t really mentioned about his source of living on his invitation letter but he stated there that he will be responsible for me to all my needs etc. while I’m there at oz. But aside from statement of bank account, he also send me 2 credit card limit, pay slip and taxation record.

If he don’t have pay slip then statement of bank account & credit card limit will be ok as long as he have enough funds.

  14. Agnes Avatar

    Hi Ashley and NIna,

He’s bank statement ba will be enough since ipro-provide nmn nya as his requirement kpg nglodge na ko ng application. Mlaking tulong na ba un pra maapproved ung visa application ko? He assured me nmn na kpg bngy nya un he will put enough money as proof na kya nya sagutin ung expenses ko when i stay in Australia.

    Thanks,

    1. Ashley Avatar

      2. shelly Avatar

And sis eto lng docs that im going to submit…
        *coe
        *leave acknoledgement letter from employer
        *passport bopage
*photocopy of visa stamps from asian travel
        *intent letter
        *nbi
        *itr
        *photos together
*itinerary when had our holidays outside manila

All certified true copy. Is that enough? Wala nako maisip na isend.

      3. Ashley Avatar

Hi Shelley. yw its ok if its all scanned doc from ur bf as long as its certified by JP. kse all the documents that I submitted b4 all scanned and its granted twice. I guess they will not going to ask u about the original copy, coz based on my experienced I lodge my application via call center & air21 pick-up & deliver my documents.

If u have a western union receipt of money transfer from ur bf include that as well, then cards, emails, chat conversation. the more supporting documents that u will going to submit, the big chance that ur visa is granted. Good luck s application mo & for sure its granted ๐Ÿ™‚ just have faith & pray

Hi everyone. Lodged my multiple-entry visa yesterday. Here’s how the process went for me:

    1) Filled out application form (Form 1419) and collected required documents.

    Documents from me:
    Letter of Intent
Notarized copy of 1st page of current and old passports
Notarized copy of company and school IDs
Certified true copy of my birth certificate
Notarized copy of arrival/departure pages of passports
    Notarized copy of US visa
Certificate of employment and leave approval from my manager
    Notarized copy of ITR
Notarized copy of payslips, credit card statements, bank statements and bank certifications
Notarized copy of school invoice (proof of enrollement as I am also taking grad studies apart from working full time)
    NBI Clearance
    Passport-sized photos
**Note – anything you submit as a photocopy must be notarized.

    Documents from my partner:
    Letter of invitation
    Notarized copy of passport
    Notarized copy of birth certificate
    Notarized copy of driver’s license
Notarized copy of bank statement, credit cart statement and pay slips

    2) Called VIA to set a schedule for pick up.
This will be an international call so best to have IDD activated on your landline phone (not all landline phones have this; so best to check, lest you’ll be frustrated calling through). Tip is to call in first thing in the morning (I called 8am; must’ve been the first caller so the agent was very nice and accommodating). Listen to the agent’s instructions carefully. S/he will advise you to prepare Php320 for the courier fee (to be paid cash upon pick up). Will also say the ff – place all docs, application form and manager’s cheque in a long brown envelope, seal it with clear tape and write the ff – AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY (1st line) – YOUR FULL NAME (2nd line) – YOUR REFERERENCE NUMBER (3rd line; will be provided by the agent).

    3) Wait for pick up.
This happened a day after I called VIA. No specific time – should be within operating hours, which is 8am to 6pm. Courier guy came in around 1pm. Very fast and easy transaction – paid Php320, gave my long brown envelope and that was it.

    4) Await decision.
Application may be tracked online through the VIA website. Will do this tomorrow, as I believe my application may have been sent to the Embassy only today (knowing how these processes may be slow or may take time).

In sum, the process was smooth. The only tedious part is gathering your documents, filling out the application form properly, checking and re-checking that everything is in place. I can’t stress this enough. In my application form, I mistakenly wrote the expiry date of my passport. Pay careful attention to details. Best to be safe than sorry. Make sure you submit all documents which will help in your application. Be sure to state all needed details in the letter of intent and letter of invitation. Anticipate questions / clarifications that the visa officer will ask and work around that.

These are just some tips. Hope you find them hopeful.

Good luck to all of us! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ask ko lang po. About health insurance? Need ba ako i apply ng health insurance ng bf ko kapag pumunta ako sa autralia for tourist visa? Sabi kase nung friend nya need maglagay ng bf ko ng AUD$ 10,000 sa health insurance ko to make sure daw na babalik ako dito sa pinas? We’re so. Confused! Ano po ba need gawin ng bf ko once na pumunta ako as a tourist visa anu-ano ang mga dapat nyang i prepare and i apply para saakin doon?thanks a lot for the help.

Hi guys, i got a question. Is it likely the courier will come and pick ur docs the day after ur scheduled pick up date? Coz i scheduled mine for pick june 6, so dpt today un. Thy gave me a reference number and got all my details but they didnt turn up. Im so disappointed. ๐Ÿ™ was thinking if it would be easier to just lodge my application at the via.

Hi aiza… Im not really the best person to answer ur queries coz i am applying my tv too, my docs just picked up today. I think health insurance would be a good incentive to come back to phil, but reading through the comments from old and this new blog entry u have other options. Like some here submitted their study load (for students), coe, leave acknowledgement letter and others (for employed), for some who hve kids or business, they make that their reason to comeback. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi guys… Ask lang po, sbi po nila when your applying for de facto visa e, you should have a proof that you and your partner live together for atleast 12months, e pano po kaya kung mga 6months palang kayo nagsasama sa bahay, but have a “relationship certificate from Australian govt. is that enough proof na nagsama na kame for 12months already? Any experience na ganito mga kaibigan? Share you thoughts.. Thank you…

  35. RR Avatar

    Gโ€™day mates!

I would like to thank this Ms. Nina for this informative blog as it served as one of my research reference in filing my TV to the land down under. And I just canโ€™t help but to share my experience along the process.

I have some similar situations with Ms. Nina โ€“ Philippine passport holder, single and with relatives in Oz.

Iโ€™m working too hard so I decided to give my self a break for a grand vacation and to see the Australian staging of the plays War Horse and The Addams Family. Been to 6 Asian countries (Singapore, Thailand, HK, Macau, Vietnam and Cambodia) wherein no visa is required for entry and all on a pleasure trip. This was my first time to apply for an Australian visa.

Called the embassy hotline for appointment of documents pick-up on Apr 29 and on the following day, Apr 30 documents were handed to the Air21 courier. Notification was received thru text message on May 3 informing me that the embassy have already received my documents, since May 1 is a Philippine holiday. As I was told by the hotline representative that processing time is around 10 working days to a month so I patiently waited and I never made a follow up regarding the status of my application. Then on June 1, the courier sent me a text message regarding the delivery of my documents. At exactly one month on June 3, that Iโ€™ve received my visa grant notice!

These are the documents that I submitted :

    โ€ข Letter of intent
    โ€ข Managers check Php 5,100
โ€ข Accomplished form 1419 with picture
โ€ข NSO authenticated copy of birth certificate (original)
    โ€ข Photocopy of passport (certified)
    โ€ข 3 months payslip
    โ€ข Bank Certificate
    โ€ข BIR form 2316
โ€ข Credit card SOA (3 months)
    โ€ข Approved vacation leave form
    โ€ข Certificate of employment
โ€ข Letter of Invitation from my brother
โ€ข JOP certified copy of my brotherโ€™s Drivers License
โ€ข JOP certified copy of my brotherโ€™s Australian passport
โ€ข JOP certified copy of my brotherโ€™s Birth Certificate
โ€ข JOP certified copy of my brotherโ€™s Certificate of Australian Citizenship
โ€ข 5 months original copy of payslips of my brother
    โ€ข Itinerary
โ€ข Copy of show tickets (War Horse and The Addams Family)
โ€ข Certified copy of my passport with stamps from my previous travels

It all boils down in demonstrating the authenticity of the visit and the compelling reasons to return to the Philippines.

Hello everyone! Got my visa grant notice for Tourist Visa yesterday. Here’s how it was for me:

May 28 – docs were picked up by the courier
May 30 – got a text from the embassy that they already my docs and application
June 6 – got a text that my docs were to be delivered back to me
June 7 – docs and visa grant were delivered.

In summary, took me just 7 days (1 week) to get the decision and 8 days to receive the docs and actual grant notice.

I’m so impressed! Must’ve gotten lucky, too!

    Good luck with everyone else!

    2. Ashley Avatar

hello Jenn, u will be the one who going to submit all the documents from ur sponsor together w/ ur documents. tell him n send nya syo through email, scanned documents is ok as long as its certified true copy & sign by the justice of peace. all documents u need to sealed it on long brown envelope when u going to submit it after u lodge ur application.

      1. Ashley Avatar

@ marie11284, Im not so sure if its ok n d2 mo s pinas m notary yung docs ng sponsor mo if wla yung original n doc. but i think some of our k sissy here d2 n nla s pinas pina notary yung docs but im not 100% sure. maybe try to ask their teacher to make a letter n include mo as supporting doc n ur the one who look after ur kids and u will going to return here after ur visit. & if u can have another strong incentives to return aside from ur kids its better. aren’t u going to apply for pmv or partner visa? coz if u will thats a good reason that u will return here in phil coz u have a pmv or partner visa application at the same time & u need to return to wait the decision of ur application.

HI everyone! I’m worried about my application. I submitted my TV application on June 11 and was told that since June 12 was a holiday, day one of processing would be June 13. Thing is, until now, I still have not received a text confirming that the embassy have received my application. I know it’s a bit stupid but I have already bought my tickets for my July trip. This is my second trip to AU. Hubby and I were so busy and were rushing that we did not get to submit our marriage certificate (we did this the last time I applied – Im married to an Aussie btw, weve been married for 6 years and living in PH), NBI or itinerary. I know it wouldve helped if I submitted those. *sigh* So what do you think guys? SHould I be worried? Should I call VIA/AU embassy? Pls help. Thank you

      HI LISS…

We have the same sentiment. I had my docs picked up June 6, up to this date I haven’t heard from the embassy. This is my first tv application, so Im a bit worried. I also check my email everyday… One of the girls here (Plummy) said when she applied her tv last year she didn’t receive txt confirmation and was only contacted when the docs was to sent back. She tracked it online lng, which I also did. I used the tracking number on the receipt . U can track it here:

      http://www.af2100.com/tracking/index.jsp

kase i tried to go to air21.com.ph im not getting results. Hope it helps. ๐Ÿ™‚ Cross fingers that they’re now reviewing our papers and get a grant notice soon:)

Hi Roch, Thanks for the reply ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t have a tracking # eh. I submitted my docs @ the VIA office in Makati. I have just read through the paper he attached to my receipt and it states that it might take up to 7 business days for an acknowledgment letter and that if you have not received an acknowledgment after 7 days, then, they might have not received your application. Have you tried calling the hotline? I called VIA and they told me to call the premium number or send an email to the embassy through their website daw. I thought maybe wait muna ako ng 7 business days before I call. I’m getting really worried kasi hinahabol ko yung time. I am supposed to attent my mom in law’s bday. ๐Ÿ™ Yes, cross fingers nalang tayo ๐Ÿ˜€

On the visa notice it stated there that my application was lodged at the embassy 10th June. So prang 5 days lng na process coz June 12 was holiday. My visa was granted on the 15th.So don’t worry it will be fine:) and im sure it will be granted again. I didn’t have my nbi too btw.
