Traveling with a smartphone

This is an advertorial

I’m not a big fan of social media (or anything social), but I do use it often to connect with people I do know (and actually like). Gadgets have always played a big part in my travels, even more so now with smartphones and tablets.

What I really like about traveling with them is that it lets me connect with family and friends, sharing photos as often as the free wifi availability would let me. I have access to my email, and sort out problems on the go. As much as I would love to disconnect while on a holiday, I have come to accept that these gadgets are here to stay.

When I travel, I make sure that the necessary documents and information are all available in my phone. Tickets and reservations are labeled properly in my email, with a back up PDF stored in the device. Guidebooks are now in PDF format as well, with pages marked for easy reference. Travel apps are also installed to help me get around.

Aside from my browser, the most used app in my phone when I travel is Google Maps. In countries like Singapore, where the transport lines are encoded, I rely on it to tell me how to get to where I want to go from wherever I may be in the island. I also count on the map to tell me where exactly I am, and how I can find my way back.

I’ve written a short piece about how I use my smartphone when I travel, and how I avoid racking up huge roaming charges over at roamtheglobe.ph.

I am then truly HONORED that you socialize with me ;p

I own a not-so smart phone (and don’t pay data costs – as super expensive here), so I can’t say that I enjoy the perks of having a smart phone when travelling. Hehehe! I wish I had a smarter phone though because I know that there are apps that are super useful.

Hahaha, I think it has a lot to do din with me having my entire life online!

I don’t own a smartphone kaya wala pa akong instagram account hehe. Still skeptical if I should get one since there’s a tendency na puro na lang ako internet at chat :))

At least I know hindi lang pala ako ang walang Instagram account. Even if I have a not so smart phone, I don’t have a data plan. It helps because I can concentrate more in the moments versus being anxious of posting stuff.

Ah, that is true. But I do like the convenience of posting something right there and then (not necessarily right in the middle of a great moment), because I end up putting off blogging and posting altogether when I get home!

Hahaha totoo yan, Mica! Though actually, magsasawa ka rin pagtagal!
