coron accommodation – Just Wandering https://justwandering.org Filipina budget traveler, set to explore the world Thu, 27 Aug 2015 18:25:35 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://i0.wp.com/justwandering.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/cropped-jw.png?fit=32%2C32&ssl=1 coron accommodation – Just Wandering https://justwandering.org 32 32 35669073 A different Coron experience at Coron Eco Lodge https://justwandering.org/2012/destination/philippines/a-different-coron-experience-at-coron-eco-lodge/ https://justwandering.org/2012/destination/philippines/a-different-coron-experience-at-coron-eco-lodge/#comments Mon, 29 Oct 2012 21:24:15 +0000 https://justwandering.org/?p=3184 My trip to Coron, Palawan last September was very different from the trip I made back in June 2008. That, for me, felt more like a backpacking trip, the trip this year feeling more like a holiday.

Well, it was meant to be a holiday. It was a long weekend for me, and I was only too happy to enjoy what little holiday I get from work. It also helped a lot that Coron Eco Lodge arranged everything for me. When I got the invite to head back to Coron, I thanked my lucky stars, because I’d jump on any opportunity to go back to Palawan.

Soft, yet firm beds! Slept very comfortably during those three nights

The first big difference, of course, was our accommodation. Krystal Lodge might have all the character, but if you’re looking for comfort at a reasonable price, Coron Eco Lodge delivers. Located near the center of town, restaurants and shops are just a short walk away. If you’re lazy, there are plenty of tricycles around, eager to take you where ever you want to go.

Good sized bathroom with a shower curtain! This makes me very happy.

The rooms are adequately sized, and it doesn’t feel cramped with two people inside. It had the comforts you’d need: airconditioning, cable TV (THEY HAVE THE TELENOVELA CHANNEL!), closet space with more than enough hangers to hang your clothes, ensuite toilet and shower, and the one thing I appreciate the most: shower curtain! Hey, that’s a valid concern that a lot of hotels overlook! Wet floors are dangerous!

You’re asked to leave your keys at the reception when you leave the lodge. You wouldn’t want to be toting this huge thing around now, would you?

Breakfast is included in the package. On weekends, you get a buffet spread of eggs, congee, toast and coffee, on weekends there are plated sets of your favorite -silog. There are snacks and beverage available, in case you get a craving for some munchies, and wi-fi at the lobby, which is always a plus.

Breakfast!

Coron Eco Lodge sweetened the deal by including the tours with our package. On our first day, we opted to skip the trip up Mt. Tapyas, and headed to Maquinit Hot Springs, which was as lovely and hot as I remembered it was. The following day, my cousin and I took the Malcapuya and Banana Island tour, veering from the usual Coron Loop Tour. She wasn’t comfortable with snorkeling, and I figured going to the beaches would help ease her into it.

Banana Island
Gotta love Banana Island!

It was a long boat ride out to the islands, and it was definitely worth it! The beaches are clean, the water refreshing and the views are absolutely stunning. The following day, I did the Coron Island Option 1 tour, which took me to Siete Pecados, Banol Beach, CYC Beach, Skeleton Wreck, Coral Garden, and the Twin Lagoon. I loved that I got to go to the places I missed the last time I was in Coron.

Crab, grilled pork, ensaladang talong and ensaladang lato for lunch!

Coron Eco Lodge offers great value packages for three to five days stay. This includes breakfast at the hotel (or a packed breakfast if you’re heading out early), lunch and snacks during the tours, snorkeling gear rentals, and airport transfers. If you prefer to DIY, their twin rooms go for Php 1,598.00 per room. Not bad, eh?
