Start of an Enchanted Summer

School’s out, Holy Week is over and done, and temperatures in Manila continues to climb. Summer is definitely here. Anticipating family outings throughout the school holidays, Enchanted Kingdom has new attractions that both parents and children can enjoy.

All systems go for the Space Shuttle Max

After months of closure, Enchanted Kingdom’s iconic ride, the Space Shuttle has been re-opened last Saturday to a huge crowd. There wasn’t any major changes in the track, except for a new paint job. The big change was the new cars that “give riders a greater feeling of space, as the body is more open, affording a more exciting experience.” The whole train was replaced with the latest available model, the Vekoma Mark 1212 train and coaches from Holland. It has a more comfortable ergonomic seating position and a state-of-the-art automated harness system.

Rain, rapids and racers

The weather has been crummy last week in Manila. While the cooler temperature is a much welcome relief from the sweltering tropical heat, rain isn’t what I want when I’m spending the day outdoors. But as Eric, Rotch, Rael and I found out, the rain doesn’t stop the fun and activities at Enchanted Kingdom (though it did stop most of the rides). Neither did we need the rain to get thoroughly soaked.

Magicalympics at Enchanted Kingdom

Amazing Race has always been one of my favorite reality shows. Though I envy the exotic places the contestants visit, I do not envy the fact that they would just race through the country, with hardly any chance to take in the sights and experience the culture. Though the prize at the end of the race is very enticing, it entails a lot of effort (and pain) to reach the finish line first. I’ve had a taste of this Amazing Race type of activity years ago, and that experience was enough to turn me off the game altogether.
