Over the last couple of years, I’ve gotten hooked on watching YouTube videos, specifically the ones produced by Buzzfeed. I particularly love the videos where they try different food from around the world — I enjoy seeing them get squeamish about food that’s unfamiliar.
I normally don’t travel during Philippine holidays, primarily because my work requires me to follow the US holidays, but also because I know everybody will be traveling then, and the prices go up. However, My birthday falls between Thanksgiving and Bonifacio Day this year, so when I chanced upon a Cebu Pacific seat sale, I quickly booked a trip to Bohol with my friends Sunshine and Bea.
Just a couple of days after that, I received an email from Deal Grocer, asking me to choose among their hotel deals for an overnight stay. I was still in Bulusan that time (September), and won’t be back in Manila until the end of October, so I thought, why not use the voucher for a stay on my birthday, during our Bohol trip?
Last May, Asus launched the Zenfone 2 smartphone in the Philippines, and I’ve been fortunate enough to receive a unit to use and review. Though my review was based on just two days of use, I’ve continued using the unit until a couple of weeks when I received the Zenfone 2 Laser to review.
To easily differentiate between the two Zenfones in this review, I shall refer to my Zenfone 2 as Miss Satsuki.
A visit to Penang is not complete without staying and exploring the historic city of Georgetown. For this leg of our Penang trip, Bayview Hotel Georgetown has kindly offered us two night’s stay, and a special rate for my third night through Agoda.com.
The hotel is located on Lebuh Farquhar, right in between the Eastern & Oriental Hotel and the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion. While it’s in the buffer zone, its location is still pretty optimal — the highlights of the UNESCO World Heritage Site is within walking distance, yet it’s far enough that it’s in a quieter neighborhood (though the streets around it are quite busy with speeding cars).
From the Georgetown Bayview Hotel, we were able to walk to the Purrfect Cat Cafe in Jalan Muntri, Dewan Sri Pinang in Light Street, and Kapitan Restoran in Lebuh Chulia in the historic core.
While we didn’t stay at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort’s next door neighbor, we had the opportunity to tour the hotel. On our first night, we also dropped by to have dinner at Sigi’s to try out their Durian Cheeseburger.
The Golden Sands Resort is a four-star property, and is geared more towards families on holiday. Much like many of other Shangri-La properties, the huge freeform pool dominates the outdoor area.
