5 reasons why I travel

Dave of GoBackpacking blogged his 5 reasons for traveling, and has tagged me to do the same.

Hmm, why *do* I travel anyway?

  1. Something new.
I’m always eager for something new and different.
  2. Take a break from the usual
I easily get bored and demotivated by routine. I lose focus on matters that need my full attention (i.e. work), and my morale is low. By traveling, I get to recharge my energies and start looking forward to working again (so I can save up money for my next trip!)
  3. Photo op!
Photography really goes hand in hand with traveling. I can’t imagine traveling without any camera. I don’t spend all of my travel time looking through the camera lens, but it’s always great to take photos of the places you’ve seen to share with friends and family.
  4. Research and Planning
I really enjoy reading about new destinations, and updating my spreadsheet. I really am a geek at heart.
  5. Shopping!
Shopping is my downfall. The best thing about shopping overseas though is that you get stuff that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to buy at home (or if it is available locally, it’s too expensive).

I am tagging Christine, Cayce and Christina to share their 5 reasons for traveling ;)

I forgot about shopping. Lately, I try to limit souvenirs to artwork (small paintings from local artists) and a little local alcohol!

Ooohh, I like #3! Whenever I plan a trip, I think about all the pictures I can take. They are my favorite souvenirs.

Dave: local artwork is a nice collection! I’ve given up on collecting Hard Rock Cafe shotglasses in favor of painting and photos by local artists.

Stacy: Yup! It’s beautiful AND free! Definitely the best souvenir ever!

I’m definitely with you on #2. I feel like I’ve been on auto-pilot at my workaday job for a while now. I can’t wait to go on my RTW trip to break that routine.

So sorry, I just saw this now! I’ll be back with my answers tonight when I get home from work. :D

There are 1001 reasons but somehow, for me, this justifies why I travel:

“A well-traveled person with wide experience knows many things and talks sense. You can’t know much if you haven’t experienced much, but travel can make you clever. In my own travels I have seen many things and learned more than I can put into words.”

Surprisingly, this is from the Bible’s Apocrypha (Sirach 34:9-11)

So, with this in mind, my motto is: “Have cash, will travel!”

    Nice quotation!

Hehe, we share the same motto ;)

i read this from a book (forgot lang kung sino author hehe)

you can’t memorize the maps but you can learn it by traveling. :)
