At first glance, the name of the website brings to mind spam comments in blogs. However, when you see the website, you’d be able to forget about the spammy name when you see the website’s banner: it boasts of no booking or reservation fee, no cancellation fee and no advance payments needed.
As soon as the site loads, you see a list of popular European destinations and a list of what I suppose would be the best selling hotels in the city. Each profile has a picture, a short description, and of course, the price in Euros. There is a search box on the left, where you can type in your destination city, and the dates when you will be travelling. You can set the search to show only hotels with available rooms for those dates.
In the search results page, the hotels will be listed by popularity as default. One of the things I love about this site is that you can sort the list so the results will be listed either alphabetically, star ratings, or by cheapest rooms. Alternatively, you can also choose to sort it by distance to the nearest landmark (i.e. airport, train station, golf courses, etc.)
You can also view maps of the hotel’s location. Discount Europe Hotels has an interactive map, which not only shows you the location of the hotel, but also other hotels nearby, as well as other landmarks. There are also arrows to mark the flow of traffic, which is perfect if you’re driving. There are also a number of pictures provided, to give you a glimpse of the hotel’s interiors, rooms and facilities. Also listed are the usual list of amenities, facilities and activities.
What’s interesting though, is that while they promised no cancellation fees will be charged, under the Booking and cancellation section, it is noted that: “In case of late cancellation or no-show, we charge 90% of the full amount. The cancellation policy may vary per room type; please check the room description as well.” and that “The hotel reserves the right to pre-authorise credit cards prior to arrival.” According to the FAQ, the credit card info is needed upon reservation in case of a no-show, wherein you will be charge for the night’s rate (or whatever is indicated in the hotel’s terms.
All in all, this is a good site for looking for accomodations in Europe. With the easy navigation and information provided, it’s at worth to be bookmarked.
