I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

I think I read somewhere that you need to produce a CENOMAR which would state your marital status. So I don’t think you’ll ever get a VISA for the purpose of getting married in Australia or anywhere with your Australian boyfriend. So even if you apply for it…the chances of it getting approved is very very very slim.

Everybody has a chance to…but even I don’t know the qualification for them to approve it. Since they are asking for CENOMAR for married people…and if under contacts in Australia and you put relationship as boyfriend. Who knows what they make think of it especially your married and we have laws about those things so its better to state he is your friend than boyfriend.

Well that’s what we get living in a very religious country. And I guess this just helps people to realize marriage is not a joke so when you say YES to a guy make sure, your sure cause from then on…getting out is hard & expensive.

Hi..Im filipina and just lodge documents/requirements for prospective marraige visa to Australian embassy last Dec.2011,then received there reply via email last March2012.They want me to renew my NSO and NBI cert,so I did and send.Then they email again and tell me to wait 8weeks.Should I believe this to keep on waiting.Or should me and fiancee well go to Australian embassy,Manila to follow-up in person.How long is the approval of fiancee visa?Thanks for the info.Godspeed….

Meron po akong naging friend jan sa oz and silang mag asawa is inviting me to visit them. bale nagsend po sila ng invitation skin together with a copy of their bank statements, statutory declaration and copies ng passport nila. Sila po magshoulder lahat ng expenses ko including visa fee, airfare, accomodation at living expenses during my stay sa oz. enough na po ba un mga docs na un na isubmit with my application? wala po kasi ako work and i dont have funds sa bank na malaki. thanks for the reply ms.esmarie. actually nakapaglodge na ako ng application sa via center last june 7, pero til now wala pa ako narereceive na confirmation from them na for processing na un application ko. may nakasabay ako si ms. @chantalgertrude pero sya nakareceive na last tuesday ng text. bakit kaya ganun? mejo nakakakaba un pag aantay. i hope maapprove tayo.

Nabasa ka sa previous comments dati na wala rin xa natanggap na confirmation sa embassy ilang days na ang nakaraan pero nong tawagan nya ang hotline na receive naman daw agad ng embassy two days after siya nag lodge. Talagang nakakaba yong pag-hihintay sa result. I am praying na sana approve tayo.
You know Glai lage ako nag check ng cellphone ko baka magtext o tumawag embassy and lage ako online sa email ko baka mag email embassy and everyday ako nagbabasa dito sa site. Stressful talaga ang paghihintay.

hello po..as what i know and what i lodged before eh kelngan nyo rin po ng invitation letter coming from your sponsor stating that he/she will support your trip,finances,food,home..everything then any proof that she is your aunt like picture,family tree..then ym or skype conversations po..emails,letters..receipts that she is sending money to you..yn po un i think n kelngn p po nya..anyway tourist visa po b apply nya?and merun din po aq pinass n intent letter q stating that i will go back in philippines coz i have work..or say you have your daughter..just give them strong reasons and make them believe that you will really go back in philippines..un po and good luck…

Aside from invitation letter from my auntie ano pwedi ipalit doon? hindi kasi niya linagyan ng invitation letter itong documents na ni mail niya sa akin. Pero nanduon rin sa receipt ang name ng auntie ko na siya ang payor sa aming visa application dahil duon niya ito binayaran sa australi. Pero naka state sa stat declaration sa auntie ko that they will provide full support sa amin kapag nandon na kami sa australia. Yes, we have pictures ng auntie at uncle(foreigner) dahil sila ang witness namin sa aming civil wedding. emails galing sa kanya meron ako pero receipt na nagpapadala siya ng pero sa akin ehh wala ako nun kasi nung pinagpaaral ako ng auntie ko sa mama ko lang pinapadala ang pera kaso ang ATM ng mama ko eh na close na. Intent letter gagawa ako niyan…gawin kung reason ang anak ko na talagang babalikan ko siya.

ann for what i know tlga kelngn un invitation letter coming from ur sponsor kz dun pagbabasehan kng sino un sponsor mo..kung san k tutuloy kapg and2 kn s australia..kung sino ssgot ng food mo,ur trip..then kng thru email lng ggwin un invitation letter,tell them to scan it together with their signature pra mas pormal..

I’m just wondering anung visa inapply mo?is it tourist? I applied for a tourist visa kasi and lodged my application last May 26. I intend to stay in Brisbane for 3 months. Nakabili na din ng sponsor ko ticket ko at ang flight is June 19. Makukuha ko kaya ung visa before my scheduled flight? Another question is that, once I get there in Australia, me and my sponsor is planning to get married para before maexpire ung visa ko makakuha na ako ng permanent visa. is it possible? Thanks!:-)
Another thing is that, most of you guys passed an NSO birth certificated and NBI clearance which I failed to passed when I lodged my application. makaka-affect kaya un? although nag pasa naman ako ng certificate of employment, a certification from my company proving that I will be returning back after 3 months, my original passport, travel insurance and requirements from my sponsors.

I know for a fact that I cannot marry using my TV. gusto ko lng makasiguro baka pwede. regarding sa ticket, mukhang magpapabook pa ako nito kasi til now wala p din visa ko. though everyday naman daw nagrerelease ang embassy ng mga visas in 2 batches. Kaya araw2 na ako nagfafollow-up sa via.ph using my track application number.

Hi Esmarie!I follow up my application in 2 ways. First, by using the track application at via.ph website. when you lodged your application, there was a receipt given to you at the visa center. you can find your tracking number there. On via.ph website, click Track Application and you may input your tracking number and date of birth. Second, you can follow up thru this number 1900362279..I’m a globe subscriber that’s why I’m using that number to call the embassy representative everyday to follow up my visa application.

The original plan is he’ll visit me here for our first meeting, that was supposed to be last week of May which didn’t happen because of his sudden work assignment.. so, we decided that i visit him instead.. i am “a bit” scared to take the risk meeting him there so i contact my aunt who is in Perth.. The new plan is, we (me & my boyfriend) will meet in Perth where my aunt is.. Nag lodge ako ng Tourist Visa application and documents nitong june 4, 2012 and naka recieved ako ng sms na nakuha nadaw ng embassy ung application passport and documents ko. So start na ng kaba ko. Bali ang inaplayan ko kasi is 6 months multiple entry visa kasi nga ung bf ko is new zealand citezen pero 20 years na siyang naka tira sa perth australia, so bibisitahin namin ung mother niya doon and personal na invite para sa kasal namin dito sa pinas sa may 2013, ung sa invitation letter niya nakalagay na din dun ung reason why he invite me for 6 month multiple entry visa kasi nga para makalabas ako ng australia at makabalik. Actually this is my 2nd application na nanggaling na ako ng australia noong last year october 2011 tas jan 2012 ako bumalik kasi single entry for 3 months lang ang stay ko doon. Pero this time nag apply ako ng pangalawa 6 months na. Nung bumalik ako from holiday sa oz eh nag resign na ako kasi inasikaso kna ung mga documents para sa kasal namin. Which is sa application letter ko sinabi kana na nag resign na ako. Gumawa ako ng application letter kahit na hindi naman kailangan. Bali Ms. Fay and Nina ito po mga documents na sinubmit ko sa embassy personal akong pumunta.

how to do an intent letter? put your full name age your occupation where you live then put also the name of your sponsor,his work..how can he support you i mean will he support your accommodation,tickets,food everything then state also what you will do in OZ why and how long will u stay and when will u come back..thats it..state also whats your relation with your sponsor..good luck

usually now eh 15 working days but un skn eh 13 days lng eh ngrant n un visa ko and they dont call me,they message me on my phone number i provided and they just said that they alreay received my application and the next message i received from them s when they told me that my application is for dispatch na..thats it..

According to previous comments that si agent lang kasi ang nakakareceive ng text if si agent nag process ng visa mo. Makakareceive ka ng text if ikaw mismo nagprocess I am not sure about this nabasa ko lang rin kasi.. I hope granted visa natin.

Oo nga sabay tayo. Balitaan nlang sa result ng visa natin. Ako ang ginagawa ko ung waiting period ko dinadagdagan ko nalang kaya kahit kinakabahan nag pray nalang na sana pumasa. Siguro mga 25 na natin malalaman result.
Pero teka ung medical ba ginagawa lang un kung pasado na sa visa? Me idea kaba o me nabasa ka?
Kung 6 months tourist visa kelangan daw ng medical if 3 months hindi na raw. Malalaman natin yan kasi mag e-email ang embassy sa atin if kailangan ng medical.

hi! It would be best if you just do it yourself when lodging a Tourist visa. hindi nman ganun kacomplicated. gagastos ka lng pag ginawa mo yan. At the end of the day nasa requirements and batayan para maapprove ang visa. The only thing why we need an agent is to guide and help us with our visa application. Before I lodged mine, I read all of the comments here at this site. I seek the help of the Internet by searching all the possible answers whatever query I have in mind. You can also open wwww.immi.go.au for information on visa application.

@Mariane, wala akong agent. ako mismo naglodge sa docs namin ng husband ko. mga 8 working days palang yon sa embassy kasi june 4 ako nag lodge sa via center and then june 6 nila na receive and close daw embassy sa june 11 and 12. kaya nabawasan ng 2 working days.
I think its all about patience lang kc ako I lodge my document last May 25…got a call from the Embassy for CI. Got a text today that my documents are ready for dispatch. So I’m just waiting when it’ll come and find out the result

Congrats Marie! Yup, no further stay means no extension. Puede kang mag apply uli as soon as you get back, unless you’re granted a multiple entry visa.

hindi poh apektado ang application na submit mo sa new system na effective pa sa july 1, sa liggo na ito u expected to receive ur visa result…ang dami kasi naglodge ng application kasi nagpanic ung iba na maging mas mahigpit ang processing…wag kang mag-alala makatanggap ka rin ng good news, ung agent mo kasi ang babalitaan ng embassy kasi cla ung authorize representative mo…kaya payo ko lang sayo be patient hehehe
@chantalgertrude sa perth yung friend ko. wala pa rin ako nareceive na confirmation. yun friend ko sa oz nag email sa embassy about my application, she was informed na kokontakin na lang daw sya if they need additional documents. nagcheck ako sa via.ph to track my applic ang sabi hindi match un bday ko sa # that i typed. 🙁 worried talaga ako.

I got the decision yesterday when i picked-up my passport/documents at the via center. I would like to share with you my thoughts about the decision given by my case officer. Unfortunately, my Tourist visa has been REFUSED! 🙁
Kumpleto naman documents ko pero ang reasons daw bkit hindi naapporove are: 1. I don’t have adequate funds for personal support 2. I have no indication for the purpose of the travel, eg. places to visit, nature of relationship from my sponsor.
Ngayon ko lng napagtanto na hindi porket may sponsor ay hindi pa pla sapat na evidence para masupport ang sarili sa Australia. May mga pinakita naman na payslip ung sponsor ko pero hindi pa rin satisfied ang case officer. My case officer is not satisfied that there is a strong enough incentive for me to return here in the Philippines even though I have a work to go back to. Narealize ko na parang wala din ako naipasa na Letter of intention, ung sponsor ko lang ang nagbigay ng ganun. At isa pa, nakaaffect siguro ung pagpasa ko ng Statements of Account ko sa banko na 50,000 kahit na meron na ung sponsor ko. o hindi kaya Filipino ung case officer ko kaya na disapprove ung application ko?
Anyway, pwede naman daw ako mag apply ulit pero sabi ng iba afetr 1 month pa. may nagsabi naman dito na anytime pwede. Sino po nakakaalam kung kelan ang duration para makapagapply ulit? Makikita na ba sa records nila kung nagkaroon ako ng previous applications? Sa mga nagaantay pa din ng Visa nila, goodluck po at sana maapprove kau. Nakakalungkot, pero kung hindi talaga time para makapunta ng Australia, hindi ibbigay sau. Pero sana sa susunod na makapag lodge ako maapprove na.Nasa mga documents and thru prayers ang kasagutan sa kahilingan natin!

I think lahat nmn ng case officer is Filipino. Cause yung tumawag sa akin doesn’t have an accent. Bka kc they analyze the length of your stay and the payslip ng sponsor mo…might not be enough to cover their daily expense plus yours for the duration of your stay.
Ako wala rin ako letter of intent I just sent an email letter of invitation from my sponsor na I’ll be going there for 10 days and coming back with booked tickets and booked accommodation and at least AU2,000 in my bank.

Pare-pareho lang siguro tayo ng documents na naisubmit sa embassy hindi ko na alam ko ano gawin ko kapag na refuse sa amin ng husband ko. Kinabahan tuloy ako.

sana maapprove ung sa amin noh…kinabahan talaga ako ng tuluyan…kasi wala akong sinubmit na intent letter wala kasi sa requirements ng agent ko tapos ung bank cert. ko confidential pa ang nakalagay sa account balance…sinubmit ko naman ang payslip ko…talagang kinabahan na tuloy ako…kung hindi approve sana hindi na nila patagalin noh…o kaya tumawag cla for further info or submission ng documents
Chantalgertrude, Sana nga tumawag sila sa atin. Hindi rin ako nag submit ng intent letter kasi that is why kinabahan ako. Sana nga wag na nila patagalin kasi plan na namin magpunta ng aussie before mag August. Pray lang tayo ng pray na sana pagbigyan tayo.
Bilib nga ako kay Josh kasi sa kabila ng lahat hindi parin nya nakalimotan ang word na “prayers”.
Let’s think positive nalang chantalgertrude kahit hindi maiwasan na ma discourage kung may marefuse sa atin dito. Mas nag worry nga rin ako kasi hindi ako dumaan sa agent and ako ra mag isa nag prepare sa documents namin ng husband ko. Na sad tuloy ako kasi parang complicated talaga.
esmarie ok lang sana yong lahat sa atin…God is a great provider…if it is meant for us it really will be given to us…on the right time…let his will be done upon us…and let us keep on praying and dont get discourage easily…as God’s time is the prefect time…

Thank you. Yes, all we can do while waiting for the result is to pray and pray. Even na discourage ako sa pagka refuse ng visa ni Josh, malay natin baka approved ang sa atin. But yes, si God na talaga ang bahala sa atin. I am praying for all of us na sana ma approve tayo.
tama just be positive even we surround with negative thoughts and negative people…after all si God lang talaga ang nakakaalam kung anu ang mas mabuti sa atin…basta whatever happen and decision we should be strong and thankful that we still alive and had alot of chances to do it again in the future…
Siguro nga nasa case officer din un. But sometimes their decisions are very vague.kung may ibang case officer na nakakuha sa application ko then chances are, it will be approved! Their concern is that you will arrive in Australia, and overstay your visa because you can make good money there.Pero andyan na yan. Ttry ko n lng for the second time. If anyone of you here na matanggap ang visa lalo na kung approve, pa-share din para bumalik din ang confidence at motivation ko. Pero kung denied na tulad ko, share niyo p din para mlaman ung mga reasons. I thank the owner of this site because it is very useful and we get hints, advice and support from other applicants/holder of Australian visa.

esmarie, umaabot na raw ngayon one month ang TV for scrutinizing…kasi marami sa mga friends naghihintay hanggang ngayon.
Ganun rin sabi sa akin ng nag entertain sakin doon sa VIA center na aabot daw ng 1 month ang pag process sa visa ngayun. Wag naman. Sana hindi nalang aabot ng 1 month because I really want to know the result.

Hi GUYS I READ WHAT HAPPENED TO JOSH I’m also sad about it. just apply again josh and nextime be more prepared so that they would not have any chance to denied you. because as ive said mine it was just 12days it was grant and i never heard anything from embassy i just got the message from the deliveryman that he will deliver back my papers and that is i know the result already. mine was just 12days its also because of the help of my boyfriend and i really think the embassy grant my visa because of him he got a very strong proved. so i was so lucky and thankful enough to him so guys keep praying and hoping think positive and be patience more.. everything always have a reason.grant din kayo dont worry…anyone going here to Melbourne ??? who can come with me.. im gonna go next month nah…
