[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

Hello guys, my uncle called them and ask the embassy about the refusal of our visa. Sabi nila pwedi nila kami bigyan ng 1 month TV. Pero sinabihan sila ng uncle ko na anong gagawin namin sa 1 month na TV, mag shopping lang at uwi agad sa pinas. Hehe.

Got my visa na from NZ Embassy. Oo pareho lang ung mga requirements na pinasa ko. Ako kasi ung fiance ko new zealand citizen pero naka base na siya sa australia eh ung visa na nagrant sakin for australia is 3 months multiple entry visa so mag 3 times exit ako sa every after 3 months ang ginawa namin nag apply ako ng tv for nz thanks god kasi na approved naman siya. Bali sa nz embassy meron silang ung less than 1 month wala siyang visa fee as in un ang kinuha ko. Tapos mag sg and hongkong nalang kami for next exit 🙂 good luck for the application 🙂 mas ok ang nz case officer kasi talagang nag fofollow up sila nag mga detail para makapag decide sila. Meron din naman case officer sa australian embassy na ganun pero bihira lang 🙂

Thank you for your reply. Actually, I only have boyfriend, but same as yours, he’s a Kiwi but based in Australia for work. And we were planning that i would come with him on March 2013 in NZ first, then after 2 weeks, to join with him going back to Australia. What do you think for me is the best way to do, to be able to acquire those both visas? Should I get a NZ visa first or an Australian visa first? But I’m pretty sure, they will tourist visas only because I have work here and I will just stay there for a holiday. Thank in advance for your advice. Ok cge add kita sa ym 🙂 girl ung pag lodged ng TV for australia and nz pwede siyang ipag sabay kagaya ng saakin pero mas priority ko talaga ang australia kasi dun siya nakabase eh. Base on my experince sa nz tv visa mabilis ang process nila as in siguro din kasi sa mga documents na sinubmit ko. Within 7 days nakuha kana agad ung passport na may visa label na 🙂 girl ganito gawin mo mag apply ka ng TV multiple entry for 3 months sa australia. Tapos ilagay mo dun sa question na kung me balak kang magtravel sa nz, singapore etc. sagutan mo un. Ilagay mo ung itenerary mo na blak mo mag travel mg nz. Ganun kc ginawa ko eh. Tapos same day mag lodge kadin ng application sa nz embassy kasi magkasama lang naman sila sa isang room dba. Kuha kalang ng number ulit. Ngayon gagawa ka ng explanation letter kung bakit di mo nasubmit ung original passport mo kasi nag lodge kadin ng application sa australian embassy. Ung mga docs na sinubmit ko is ito

3. Proof of our relationship ( picture, gifts, travel together, chat

5. Family picture ( kasi nag resign ako sa work after ko mag travel last year sa australia )
6. Deed of sale ng property na binili ko ( isa sa mga proof na babalikan ko aside sa family ko )
7. Application letter ( as in yan ang ginawa ko sinabi ko kung anu ung mga bagay na gagawin ko sa australia at kung ano ung dahilan kung bakit ako nag apply ng visa, tyaka andun sa letter ko na hindi ako lalabag sa kahit na anung batas ng tourist visa 🙂 alam mo additional docs na nga lang ito eh kasi wala lang feeling ko lang mas mainam gumawa ng ganito 🙂 )

Yes kahit hndi mo siya fiance pa kailangan mo isubmit yung bank statement niya since siya ang sponsor mo. Malaki maitutulong nun. At mas maigi kung both statement of account ang submit mo sayo at yung sa bf mo. Ganun kasi ginawa ko eh. Minsan isa sa mga reason ng refusal eh yung kulang ang funds para mag travel to australia 🙂 1st time u ba mag tratravel sa aussie?

Oo yung sa payment managers check lang talaga di sila tumatatanggap ng cash sa application fee. Mag babayad kalang ng cash sakanila 600 para sa courier fee.

MALApit lang iyon sa via center ng australia,, natatandaan ko RCBC building,ung friend ko dati wala din siya ganun, doon sila nagpunta kumuha bank cheque,sana makatulong sayo ang info ko:)

yup, no worries about that. Kase I only met my fiance online too.. and we never met in person yet when i lodge my first 3 month TV and i got approved. you just have to provide your chat sessions including webcam images/skype screen shots.. and other important documents.. again, no worries. the assessment will be based on your documents submitted and not dahil hindi pa kayo nagkita.. ok? good luck Girl.. 🙂

yep.. though Oct is peak period na pero since December pa naman alis mo, ok lang nmn, kase unlike before na 1 year validity ng 3 month TV, ngayon 6 months na lang..

Yung processing ngayon ng tv sa australia is 1 month na daw eh. Yung sa new zealand 10 days processing time yun ang time table nila pero yung akin 7 days lang nakuha kana…

so approximately 15 working days ung pagprocess nila ng application ko!!

Me and my whole family were invited for my cousin’s wedding this coming november 2012. Now we are processing our papers but only me, my mother and cousin were available. My mother and cousin do have certificate of employment since they have work but for me i dont have since I just graduated last year and still a trainee for work. I wonder if i qualified or may grant a visa. All the documents that support for our trip our ready and also the letter for invitation from my cousin.

I’m happy that I found this site. It really help a lot. I have questions I hope you answer back. I have plans to go to OZ my cousin who is pinay who married an OZ guy invited me to visit her & i want also to explore OZ for only a month.
Questions:
1. Dun po ba sa Form 48R yung no. 1 question do i have to put 1 month or 3 months?
2. Regarding naman po sa sponsorship bale ako po ang magbabayad ng airfare & visa app ko, siya lang po sa accomodation & food.
Ano pong requirement ang dapat nyang i-submit pero sa ngayon wala pa po syang work dun.Yung docs po ba dapat dun sa asawa nyang OZ?
3. Yung bank certificate ko na ibibigay dapat bang 6 months transactions or ang i-re request ko sa bank eh yung balance na lang?
4. Sa employment certificate ko naman po bale po nag resign ako sa work ko ng June 30, 2012 pero nakapag request ako ng COE ng May pwede po ba yun i submit pero meron pong nakalagay na available leave na 8 days lang. Dapat ko pa po bang i-submit? or ITR na lang?

Here are my answers to your questions (based on my 2x Tourist Visa applications)
1.just tick the box for 3months. kung one month ka lang nmn mag sstay sa OZ, no problem, u can just fly back to Philippines anytime basta WAG ka sosobra sa 3months from the time u entered Australia lalo na kung my condition sa visa mo na 8503- NO FURTHER STAY
2. The husband of your friend should give you his latest bank statements (atleast 3 months)/business documents if may business siya/payslips.. (any of these ay pwede)
**well of course since u said ikaw bahala sa visa fee mo and airfare, you should also submit your own bank statements. i think it is safer na sa invitation letter eh wag na banggitin ng friend mo and her husband that they will only support your food and accomodation.
3. I think atleast 3 months eh okay na.
4. Better not to submit na yung COE mo since the company only allowed you to leave for 8 days plus u are no longer connected with them as u said.
**when i applied for my tourist visas before, i was working however the company didnt allow me to leave for 3months so i declared UNEMPLOYED on my application and still got approved twice. also, on my second application, sinama ko sister ko who is not employed din kase she just finished her contract. and got her visa approved too..
**twice na ako nag apply ng tourist visa and once yung sis ko and we declared unemployed and DID NOT submit any bank statements. yung sa sponsor lang nmin and luckily we got approved. 🙂
To prove to the embassy that u are going back to PH, u can submit any proof of family ties (family pic/family tree)since u cannot use na nga your COE or ITR since u are no longer connected with your company.

Hindi pa ako nakapag lodge dahil dpa dumarating papers ng bf ko. Sabi sa kanya sa OZ post office eh nung wednesday(11) ko daw dapat maririsib pero ’til now wala pa rin. Last week nya pinadala..registered mail. Sabi dito sa post office nung checked ko, bka daw tina-trucking pa. Nakapag lodge na sana ako..sayang..

janice ganun din ang sa akin dati naghintay ako ng almost 1 month sa doc ng bf ko…not knowing na pwede pala ipasa sa embassy ung scan doc na galing sa kanya…express mail ang nakalagay sa doc pero pagdating sa phil naging ordinary mail nalang…ganun kabagal ang post office natin dito…si fay yun 2 beses na nakapunta sa oz scan doc lang galing sa bf nya pinasa tas granted naman…basta ipanotary public mo lang ung scan doc na print mo para malaman nila na di peke tas sa intent letter mo ipaliwanag mo na on follow ung original doc.

Express mail na ung sa bf mo but still almost a month bago mo nareceived…tagal naman…how much more pa kaya ung sa bf ko? 🙁 kung bakit naman kasi ang bagal ng post office natin..haizt..may paper daw sya na hindi nya na scan, naipadala na nya kaya hintayin ko na lang daw..buti ka pa approved na at lapit ng umalis. c mae kakaapproved lang din ng visa. kelan ba pinadala ng bf u ang mail. kasi kadalasan pag registred post galing Oz ay halos 3 weeks ang aabutin bago u matanggap at ikaw mismo ang kukuha sa post office. twice na akong kumuha ng mga doc’s nya kaso matagal.

nung 6 nya ipinadala at ng araw din na un ipinadala d2 sa pinas mga mails kaya ang sabi sa kanya by wednesday(11) ko daw matatanggap. nagbigay pa nga daw sya ng extra bayad para mas mabilis but obviously almost 3 weeks bago ko din yata matanggap. 🙁 anyways, ilang araw na lang naman ang ipag aantay ko. san ka sa OZ? dalawang beses ka na nakapunta dun?

What bond u mean? You just have to provide your documents as sponsor like passport bio page/birth certificate, proof of funds – payslips, business docs, atleast 3 month bank statement, invitation letter stating your reason why u want her to come to Australia, you are able to accomodate all her living and accomodation expenses including round trip air tickets, and you are assuring the embassy that your girl will go back home before the visa expires.
I think, you can advise your girl to come to this site for any questions she may have and any one of the members here will help her..

@Chantal….saan ba na airport dito sa pinas or sa OZ. sa pinas airport u just pay the terminal fee which is 2350 lahat. then sa oz wala na di na sila nagtatanong, kung magtanong man .. sabihin u i have a sufficient amount of money on my card.

helo to u…first of all do u have relatives or friends in OZ that u can go? u can apply tourist visa yet the tourist visa had it’s restriction…NO WORK…hehehe it’s ok if u had sponsor that live and resident in OZ…or u can apply job hiring online…mostly of us here do have our sponsor…u can apply TV also without sponsor but u need sufficient funds to support urself while u in OZ…ask help from ms. I got my VISA GRANT NOTICE last tuesday. Nareceive nila documents ko june 29, approved last July 14. exactly 2 weeks! Sobrang saya ko!!

Next time kapag mag papadala ng docs ang sponsor nyo advice nyo na sa TNT express nalang kasi 2 days lang marerecieved niyo na. Di kagaya ng ordinary mail minsan umaabot pa ng more than 1 month. Eh minsan isa yan sa nakaka delay ng application 🙂

Hello po. My name is Lian. I am a newbie here. I have an Aussie friend or should I say online bf and we have been chatting for quite a while now. Since I am not eligible to apply for fiancee visa because we haven’t met face to face yet, he advised me to apply for tourist visa and he will be my sponsor.
I don’t know where/how to start my application. I am assuming I would apply for TV subclass 676, will use form 48R. I already have NSO birth certificate and a passport which is still valid. I just have to renew my police and NBI clearance. I don’t have a stable job, I do have ATM card but has no sufficient amount, I have a credit card which has a credit limit 36 thou pesos lang pero mother ko un principal card holder, kumbaga extension or supplementary card holder lang ako.
Dapat po ba original or certified true copies ang mga documents ng bf ko na ipapadala nya sa akin? Regarding sa bank statement nya, dapat po ba meron additional proof like dry seal or anuman na magpapatunay na totoo un bank statement nya?
My bf has the means to support and sponsor me. He was actually planning to visit me here kaso di nya maiwan un 2 kids nya kaya we decided na ako nalang mag visit sa kanya dun and at the same time makilala ko 2 kids nya at makita ko way of life nila.
So kumbaga, TV muna for now un aaplayan ko, then hopefully by next year qualified na ako for fiancee visa

Kakakuha ko lang ng TV, nag lodge ako nung July 10 and nakuha ko yung visa grant letter July 31. I also met my bf online, nagvisit naman sya dito sa Pinas twice, this time ako naman punta dun…sa sept pa, working student kasi ako…mahirap mag file ng leave. Anyway di kelangang ng original docs ng bf mo, yung pinasa ko is scanned and printed copy lang ng passport, letter of invite at bank account statement nya. Yung funds sa bank account mo di naman kelangan malaki since me mag su2pport naman sayo, how long do plan to stay sa AUS ba? 2 weeks lang kasi ako although visa is valid for 3mos…yun minimum eh. Hindi rin naman ganun kalaki ang laman ng account ko pero na approve parin naman. Complicated lang yung situation mo na wala kang job, dapat kasi me proof ka na you intend to return sa Pinas.
