[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

if you don’t mind, how are you na ais? im 22 here. i sent them pictures of my family and some relatives. i also gave them pictures with my friends, college and high school friends, church friends and cousin friends. iemphasize mo na you have to go back to Philippines for your son and family and to apply fiance visa. yun ang nireason ko fiance visa tska my mum’s birthday, na sana mkapag convice sa embassy.

Sis Ais, sorry to hear that. Pro you can apply any time you want as long as nkpg gather ka ng bagong docu to be presented. We have the same case before, I do not have an intent letter and picture and the main reason din is the da same na bka dw d na me bumalik ng pinas. After a year after planning what to do and gathering all the docu I lodge again. Intent letter, pics of me and my partner, pics of us with my kids, pics of us with my famiky and relatives, as in so many photos kng isinubmit, then I do not have a bnk acct but I have 2 work here and as a single mum I do need to be back for my family and for my work.

Hi sis Ais ganyan din nangyari sken last july when i applied for a 3 weeks tourist visa. Nirefuse ako kc lack of famiy ties daw at wala ako proof of sufficient funds. Pagkakamali ko din naman kc nag include ako ng photos kso di ko nabanggit sa intent letter ko ang tungkol sa family ko. So after a week ng mareceive ko refusal nag apply ako ulet. Gumawa ako ng magandang intent letter. Pinunan ko lahat ng nakalagay sa refusal ko. I provided my bank statement at nag ask ako ng letter from my Aunt confirming na dapat ako bumalik. At inassure din ng sponsor ko na babalik ako within the duration of my visa. Then after a month of waiting nareceive ko na din ung visa grant ko. And last Sept i went to Australia na with my bf. i spent a month there at last week i lodged another tourist visa application. Wishing and praying that it will be a grant again. Keep on trying sis! Ais i have a friend here her name here n ds blog s jifa, try to read all conversation we had old post comment sis… andun din yung format intent letter that i give2 jifa maybe it will help for u, 1st apply niya she got refused she reapply ulit, and i suggest her na, isulat niya sa intent letter niya na babalik ciya before her visa expire cz she is going2 aply a pmv .. then she get approve sis..syaka make sure sa invitation letter nang bf mo sulat din niya na make sure uuwi ka before of ur visa expire,, hope it helps, appy ka ulit sis.gd luck and god bless 🙂

Hi Ais! I’m so sorry to hear about your refusal. You can re-apply again anytime. Amber is right, punan mo lahat ng nakalagay sa refusal letter.
Is the invitation letter of your sponsor – a statutory declaration? If not, make one to be signed by Justice of the Peace and pa indicate mo din dun na he will make sure that you will be back before your visa expires. Then gawa ka ng bonggang intent letter. Good luck!

Hello sis Aiz, Im sorry for your refusal. Kailangan talaga ung intent of letter sis kasi dun mo kasi e explain sa kanila ang purpose ng trip mo and and also the reason na babalik ka ng pilipinas, and yes also your bf will also need to make an invitation kasi formality nya un na iinvite ka nya at sya mag shoulshoulder lahat ng expenses during your stay here in aussie. And also kahit d mo ginamit ung last name ng ex husbabd mo you still need to put it in the application sis..even me I never had chance to change my passport last name to my ex name but still nilagay ko parin dun and also our baby name kasi parang honesty narin kasi un na d declared mo lahat. Supporting documents alone cant do it sis you need a intent of letter..kasi parang no manners kc un sa kanila na aaply ka pero ala ka man lang pasabi or sharing bout the visa ur getting..u need to write one..share mo ano interest mo sa country nila..like..culture..food..theme parks..shopping..goodluck sis..apply ka ulit okey. ako nilagyan ko lng ng caption sa likod. mas better pala kung sa bond paper ko nilagay para mas maliwanag. ang dumi xe ng sulat ko kaya iniksiian ko lng mga description. like ung sa family and friends cinollage ko xe para magkakasama na sa isa. tpos nilagay ko lng my family and relatives. or ung sa mga with my bf kung saan at kailan.ganun lng un skin. pero better kung ung gagawin mu is ung didikit mo sa bond paper mas neat tignan. hehe suggestion lng na hindi ko nagawa. gagawin ko next time.

Hi tine, last time experience q was I arrived in Sydney and took connecting flight to Perth. D2 aq sa Perth ngaun so yeah pwd ka mg.arrive sa ibang state. Dq LNG sure about sa transfer mo by bus or train to Adelaide bka kc kilangan stamp sa passport mo. Mkikita kc sa stamp if san state ka ng.arrive at dq sure if my link ba un sa visa mo. Try mo ask bka alam ng bf mo then you can take train to Adelaide pra more adventure. If not you probably get direct flight to Adelaide or connecting flight if you want to stopover in Sydney..

There is no set amount, but a good guide would be to set aside $100 for each day you will be staying in Australia.

yaaaay! i got a call from Australian Embassy. she just told me that she can only grant me a 3months multiple entry visa instead of 6months. because with 6 months daw its only single entry… im so happy! she said she will grant it today and i’ll just expect it by early next week! than you so much Lord God.

Sana nga totoong iggrant nya na.kinakabahan pa din ako khit pano wala pa xe akong hawak na papel for confirmation. Hehe

hi joy, up to 12 months din ung chineck ko sa form. pero may tumawag lng skin na case officer nirecommend na mas ok ung 3 months multiple entry visa kesa 6 or 12. depende sa situation siguro kya naconsider nya ung skin. im actually in favor of the 3months multiple entry and valid for a year since i need to go back for my mum’s birthday sa june and also lodge pmv then i can go back sa aus.

Sis Rubz itry mo sa Via.ph. Di ba may binigay syo na receipt sa via centre ung record number need mo un to track ur application sa via.ph. Tapos dun sa mga past na post dito may mga nabasa ako na hindi cla nakareceive ng text galing sa embassy pero na grant cla.. Try mo ung sa via.ph

Hi sis Rose ann. No hindi ako nagpass ng leave of absence kc di ko na dineclair na employed ako. Kc hindi din nmn nila inaaccept ung employment as best reason to come back.

hi amber, multiple din ako kso mejo confuse ako kung pano ba to nagwowork. tumawag ako aus embassy today kso australian officer nkausap ko so hindi ako masyado nkapag express ng hinaing ko. haha basta sbi nya i can stay daw 3 months every visit, tpos since wala naman daw nkalagay kung ilang days dpat ako outside aus before bumalik sbi nya i can fly out this day then go back tomorrow then stay 3 months again. hahaha ang kulit nya nga eh. tpos ung last date to arrive ko is Nov. 15, 2014 sbi nya i can go to aus like Nov. 10 then stay 3 months up to feb 2015. ang restriction lng talaga is bawal maglodge ng other visa inside aus.

I ring my bf kanina sabi nya parang hindi na daw necessary ung magpabook ako ng return ticket kc naka multiple entry naman ako at di pa nga sure kung tapusin ko ba ung 3 mos o mapapaaga ang uwi ko. Pati last sept nung pumunta ako sa Aus di naman tiningnan ang ticket ko sa immigration. Ang tiningnan lng ung visa grant ko.

Ais i have a friend here her name here n ds blog s jifa, try to read all conversation we had old post comment sis… andun din yung format intent letter that i give2 jifa maybe it will help for u, 1st apply niya she got refused she reapply ulit, and i suggest her na, isulat niya sa intent letter niya na babalik ciya before her visa expire cz she is going2 aply a pmv .. then she get approve sis..syaka make sure sa invitation letter nang bf mo sulat din niya na make sure uuwi ka before of ur visa expire,, hope it helps, appy ka ulit sis.gd luck and god bless 🙂

Hi all! The long wait is over dumating din sa wakas grant notice ko nung Friday nga tlga gnrant nung tumawag skin. To God be the glory tlga, khit hindi ako nagdeclare ng work. I’m still confuse about 3 months multiple entry visa and the last date to arrive? Nkalagay sa last date to arrive ko is november 15, 2014, dti ksi ang alam ko un ung last date to arrive in aus, so kung dun ako magbbase pwede ako magstay sa aus ng until feb. 14, 2015 pa. Tama ba? Alam ko mdami nkpag multiple entry dito, phelp naman mga sis. 3months each visit ba tlga to, or accumulated 3months the whole year na?

hi amber, PMV is fiance visa kukunin mo un bago ikasal then apply again spouse visa sa aus after ng wedding nyo. pag magpapakasal na kyo pero under tv ka lng, you can apply directly spouse visa. pero if your visa has 8503 condition No Further Stay you cant lodge it inside aus kaya sa phil ka pa din magapply ng spouse visa.

hi ella, just show them that you really have incentive to go back here in phil. in my case, i didnt declare my work so and pinaka naging incentive ko is ung PMV visa application ko next year and my mum. Clearly state in your intent letter also in your bf’s invitation letter na you won’t work nor overstay under your tourist visa.

i have mine granted after 2 days of lodgement.. woohooo,, ask ko lang wat to do next,, ?? okay na ba ung notice o do i have to go to the embasyy still to get my visa??, getting confused here.. help nman jan sa mga expert 🙂 plsss

ako naman leny waiting pa din last dec 12 ako apply tourist visa din. Di pa txt ang embassy kung narecieve na nila application ko. kelan ka apply?
tagal na ahh,, dapat tnxt ka ng via na natanggap na nila ang application mo,, at dapat tnxt ka nila kung na eforward na sa embassy ung papers.. kung walng info u shoud inquire in via kung saan ka ng lodge .:)
