[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

3months lang inapply ko sis, kaya ako nag medical kasi may record na ako before nag gagamot ako before for 6months kc nag apply ako immigration kaso na stop kaya ndi ako na granted before then i decide to finish my medicine for 6months after nun nag apply na ulit ako ng tourist visa muna kasi dito pa anak ko kaya ayon naha lungkat ung kaso ko before kaya pina examination muna ako at dahil nga uminom at natapos ko na gamutan ko ayon ok na lahat ng result ko at ung medical certificate ko..antay n lang ako sa result ng visa ko kaso gusto ko sana malaman kaso ndi ko alam paano..

hi guys…. i’m beginning to worry now, i lodged my tv last oct.16 in allegro but until now i haven’t received any text message nor email yet coming from the embassy. I felt so sad as i got a refusal from them a couple of years ago. now I submitted all needed requirements but the agony of waiting is killing me…the feeling of being refused was really frustrating and i don’t want to have that feeling anymore… God please help all of us!!!

Pcnxa na ah, akala ko kc type written lang ang pde…you can do it din pla hand written. Btw, you can travel overseas while waiting for your application result just make sure that you make an authorization letter to any member of your family just in case dumating ung result while you are away. hi dessy, i really appreciate your kindness…honestly when i applied for my tv i haven’t seen this blog yet, all i did was kung anong reason ng refusal nila sakin before, yon ang ibinigay ko sa kanila…i guess all that’s written here ay naprovide ko sa kanila naman…it’s just the fear of being refused again makes me worry…lalo na’t nababasa ko na yong iba na mas late pang nag apply sakin granted na…thank you talaga sa mga taong katulad niyo na nagttake ng time para mapagaang ang loob ng kapwa… and to you ms. nina thanx for creating this blog…it serves as a guidance to all of us…i’m crossing my fingers that i’ll have a visa granted soon… God Bless us all!!!

I had the same fear din sis when i lodged mine, but then, i am very positive that i provided all the necessary docs so i’m a bit confident that i have a big chance of getting granted that time…but of course, super kabado rin ako. Depende kasi sa case officer na maghahandle ng application eh, merong mabagal magdecide, meron naman super bilis…marami nga dito inabot ng one month before their application was decided. Last time ksi im still studying and 3 months lng inapply ko. ngayon di ko dineclare na nagwwork ako ksi bka hanapan ako ng cert of employment na hindi ko maibibigay ksi ayaw ko ipaalam sa work ko, kaya mejo worried ako. ngaun binigay ko sa kanila mga past travels ko even before I got refused at nagtravel pa uli ako…nilagay ko in a de facto rel. nko hindi ko ksi nilagay dati fiancee ko at hindi pa siya PR non. ngaun okey na…binigay ko lahat remittance, cert. of PR, bills niya, bank statement niya,payslips,drivers license,passport copy, cert.of tenancy at ung family friend cert.of citizenship.bank statement,cert.of bus.reg,bills etc. at ako dti reg. bir reg. wala nga lang itr kasi less than a year pa lang, bank cert. ,old passport copies na hindi ko sinubmit before, new passport na may travels din sa asian countries, all my identification cards,pictures namin and my child, mali ko pala before is di ko dineclare ang baby ko. I’m confident na binigay ko sa kanila ang hinahanap nila plus the invitation letter coming from them na sila bahala sa finances ko pag andon nko…before wala akong invitation letter kasi…ang tagal kong iniyakan ung refusal na yon 2 years ago kaya takot nakong maramdaman uli un…. salamat talaga sa inyo na kahit na granted na visa ,still continue to be a blessing to person like me…napapagaan niyo loob namin…salamat sa lahat.

Hi sis Ais, my advice is just wait.It’s what I also did. VIA and embassy’s site indicated that processing of TV would take as long as 1 month. For now just chill 🙂 Start calling if it’s more than a month na.
Also when I asked the staff in allegro office (I went back to add documents) if there’s a way I can check my status, they said even if you called or follow up you would just get the reply “processing”. They can’t really tell you the exact status/condition of your application. 🙂 Hope this helps.
purplecowsattic thanx so much… i checked it online through via application tracking and it says received by the embassy…when was it received wasn’t provided in the info. it’s more than two weeks now but no message yet coming from them… my refusal 2 years ago took 28 days before I received the result but they did txt me twice.

Thats alright sis..also got mine 2weeks..wala akung na recieve na txt or email na narecieve na ng embassy…im also like u got worried..but exactly 2weeks I got a txt na ready na for pick up sa alegro ung akin..then I got granted for 3 months. .ok lng yan..ang processing time talaga is 2weeks upto 1month case to case basis…marami cguro applicant now kasi mag papasko nah. Relax relax lng sis..for sure granted ka!!! Claim it!

Hi everyone, I got a message from the embassy that they received my application na today, lodged yesterday. Waiting officially starts now. Ayaw ko sana mastress kakaisip pero kinakabahan tlga ko. Ung mga di nkatanggap ng text from embassy almost lhat granted same with my first tv wla ko ntanggap and it was granted. Pero now nagtext cla, haaay! I hope its not a negative sign. Mga sis please help naman po me sama nyo din po ako sa prayer nyo na ma grant na po sana ang tourist isa ko almost mag 2 months na po ako waiting eh, tinawagan ko po kasi ung agency ko sabi nya dumating dw po ung passport ko doon may kasama na paper kaso i ask her kung granted ba ako o hindi kaso sagot nya ndi dw nya alam kung granted ba un o hindi kasi nagtataka dw sya kung ndi dw granted bakit dw passport lang ang binalik sa kanila dapat daw kc kasama mga papers ko,,,tawagan dw nya ako later lalo po ako kinakabahan pero alam ko na ndi ako bibiguin ni LORD,,, malaki tiwala ko kay GOD naiiyak na ako…

hi sis.. try go to http://www.via.ph then you will see a link there that you can open to send them your concerns.. i sent them a mail to confirm if they had received my documents last october 28, then i got a confirmation that my documents is in the embassy already.. i got worried coz i lodge mine thru courier. then havent received any text from them. i got a message and email of confirmation after forwarding a concern on their site. hope this will help..

If God will give me this chance. para sakin toh.. if not,, there are hundred chance to try.. lets just pray and claim it sis. patience lang and be positive! To God be the glory!

Hi sisters, sino po dito ang nasa NSW? Gusto ko po sana magkaroon tayong lahat na mga sisters dito ng isang group na pwede natin iregsiter somewhere as an NGO or civic action group. @angel13, sa mt. Lawley ung bf ko tpos sa lockridge ung parents nya. Ngtry ako 6to12 months multiple entry ngayon, bka lng magrant same process lng din naman. Ung medical di pa kasama sa requirements, magaantay pa ng advice from embassy kung kelan dahil may ibibigay clang hap I’d parang reference number na bibigay sa hospital. Ang may medical lng naman eh ung mga mgstay for more than 3months. Pero kung multiple entry lng, no need for medical na siguro.

oh no ais, so sorry to hear that! try to make an intent letter. if you’re going for your bf in aus, try to put that you are planning to apply for a prospective marriage visa so you need to go back to philippines, then tama ba ko may anak ka? correct me if im wrong tinatamad na xe ko magbasa ng previous comments, tell them also that you need to go home for your child’s birthday or your parent’s birthdays, anniversary or anything na magpapakita na importante family mo.
pano nasabi na mas mlakas pa ties mo sa aus? cguro next time wag ka muna lagay ng mga kakilala dun masyado, reserve them sa fiance visa mo. before ang nilagay ko lng pinsan ko tska bf. ngayon ung mum and sister nyang isa family nya lng din. buti di ko pla nilagay lahat ng naging friends ko dun, pwede ksi cla magbase dun na madami kna kakilala kaya khit di kna umuwi ng pinas. show pictures of your family. im really sorry to hear this ais. try ka again, then prove them wrong. attach birth cert of your son para strong evidence that you need to go back for him.

sis! oks lang yan.. try nalang tayo ulit 🙂 yung sakin din wala pang balita at 14 days na.. pag medyo matagal mas kinakabahan na ako kasi yung iba ang bibilis magrant ee.. kung matagalan ibig sabihin baka questionable yung application. di ko rin sure kung magagrant yung sakin coz mainly, im a nurse.. at syempre iisipin nang mga yun na hindi na ako babalik at maghahanap na ng trabaho dun.. haaayyy.. i put some pictures of me with my family. then i asked my dad to write a letter for me. in a way na hindi masyadong halata na im using him to prove that i got close family ties. i put some electric bills na nakapangalan sa papa ko and my internet bills na nakapangalan sa akin under same address. volunteer lang ako sa hospital at hindi employed.. so mine was really doubtful dahil sa profession ko.. Dont worry.. walang imposible sa taong masikap. 🙂 and keep on praying lang, God will give us the right time.. everything happens for a reason.. Tama si sis jjbelle, gandahan mo intent letter mo.. and tell the embassy that you will go back before your visa expires..and tell them that no one will look after your child,. kaya you need to go back after. baka lang makatulong.. try lang natin sis. 🙂
