[UPDATE October 13, 2015] Here’s a guide on how you can easily, quickly, and cheaply apply for an Australian tourist visa online
[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.
[UPDATE May 19, 2013: I have an updated Australian tourist visa application guide.
I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying
If you’re thinking of visiting Australia anytime soon, head on to the Australian Immigration website to learn more about the Australian tourist visa, as well as download the necessary forms. Here are some helpful links to get you started:
Tourist Visa (Subclass 676)
Tourist Visa Charges
Visa application checklist (PDF file)
Application form 48R (PDF file)
[UPDATE April 5, 2013] Please note that as of March 23, 2013, the visa subclass for Australian tourist visa is subclass 600 and the application form is now form 1419.

gud day nina ask ko lang pwede po ba ipasa ko yung application form ko directly to australian embassy manila?
You can drop it off at the VIA center, not at the embassy itself.
hi,
my boss ask me to arrange his visa application, is it possible na ako na din ang magpasa ng mga requirements sa embassy dahil wala naman interview for tourist visa? or kelangan personal silang magpasa ng mga requirements? thanks in advance for the help.
I can’t remember if he’s required to sign the documents in person when the documents are filed. You can drop off the application at the VIA Center or you can arrange for a courier pick up at your office.
[…] surprised me Though I know that visa posts will get a lot of attention, I’m surprised that my How to apply for an Australian visa and Applying for an Australian tourist visa: A guide for Filipinos are still racking up the hits […]

If you provide insufficient documents, they can deny your application again.

Hi Miss Nina, ask me lang po ano if what to do kc i wanted to pay my application payment for my visa application through managers check.Kukuha po ba me muna ng check in my bank or punta me muna sa VIA Center to lodge my application? Para po hindi na me pabalik-balik.
Tnx in advance and hope to hear from you while my boyfriend is here now.
Get the manager’s check first.

Hi Reynalyn, I don’t have any experience in getting a working visa. I suggest you visit the Australian Immigration website. Though I think if you plan to work there, you either have to be a skilled migrant or have an Australian employer sponsor your visa.
hi
i just want to ask if my kelangan bayaran pag tourist visa or need ng postdated check ba un?
thanks a lot
May babayaran kang fee.
hello,as what they told me,you have to pay 5,300 and you can pay it through managers check, you can ask this to your bank and 600 cash…
hope this will help you…
hi nina!
im khai and im planning to go to australia as a tourist but my intention is to find a job there and eventually work there. my question is is it possible to do that? or if not,do you have any suggestion about this? thanks and hoping for your reply…
khai
You can try, but I don’t recommend it. Possible employers would ask you about your visa. If you’re holding a tourist visa, they might not entertain you. I suggest you start looking online for opportunities in Australia.
thanks nina for your quick reply! your site is realy helpful! more power to you!=)
Hi!Im 30 yrs of age and employed my very good friend asked me to visit him in australia and he told me that he will give me invitation letter but we dont know how to make an invitation letter and what are the nescessary documents needed.. could you pls giive us idea regarding the invitation letter to be presented in immigration.
It doesn’t have to be a formal letter. Just a casual letter from a friend inviting another friend to come visit.
Hi Miss Nina,
I just want to ask if pwedi ko po ba ipadala through courrier (LBC) yung application form ko po? kasi andito po ako ngaun sa Bantayan Island its part of Cebu po. can i send my application form direct to the embassy?
ruby..
You have to call the embassy hotline to arrange for a pick up because they have an authorized courier or you can drop it off at the VIA Center in Cebu: http://www.philippines.embassy.gov.au/mnla/Visa_Appln.html
hi nina paano ba malalaman kung deny or granted ba yong visa mo?mag email ba sila to notify u about the decision or malalaman mo na lng kapag sinauli na yong passport mo
just got my passport last thursday and my visa is approved

thanks for this site Ms. Nina its been so helpful..no need to go on the travel agency u can do it by yourself..
You don’t need a sponsor, but you need to be able to prove that you (and your father) can fund your one-month stay in Australia and that you have solid reasons to come back to the Philippines.

Hi, I am from Australia and my friend from Turkey is trying to get a Tourist Visa to come here for 3 – 4 weeks. He has already applied 2 times and was not granted a visa. However, I did not send him an invitation and he wrote that he knew noone in Australia. Based on your expereience, is there any reason why it is not possible for him to get a simple Tourist Visa? They would not give him a specific reason why. He supplied all neccessary documents and has no criminal convictions, however has not done his National Service. Can you offer any suggestions/insight as to why he can’t get a visa. Thankyou!
There are different reasons for denial and each case vary from each application. I can’t really say why the embassy denied your friend’s application.
Hi Nina
Can you give me a link to help me write a narration for my girl friend to come to australia , we have found your site just so helpfull in getting all our forms ect together.
God bless you !!
A narration? What do you mean?
The time line of our relatonship I have found it hard to start and would like to look at other people effort on what they have written
thanks Nina

One more thing, I am not employed. Just single mom.
Thank you so much Happy im so hoping na magrant ang visa ko kagaya ng sayo.
Ms. Shema, you can lodge your application either through call center by a Courier or in person at the VIA center. For you to know more about it just visit Australian site here in Philippines.
Hello Happy ask ko lang san ba nya kukunin and statutory declaration ?
HELLO PO,just wanna ask lang po about tourist visa. I had applied tourist Visa twice this year po.Fortunately, it was granted naman. Planning to apply partner’s Visa but since i’m not yet qualified for it, i’m planning to apply tourist Visa again. Would it be possible na ma reject ang third application ko?
@jessa.gandang gabi.ang swerte mu na grant ung mga applications mu.pwede malaman anong mga documents and mga isinabmit mu.? nana grant ung tourist visa applications mo.thanks in advance.
Hello to you happy and miss nina?, ask ko lng po sa pag submit ko ba ng mga documents ko para sa tourist visa, ilagay ko ba pati ang mga xerox copy ng mga documents sa isang folder lang? at ask ko lang din kailangan ba na kukuha ka agad ng return ticket?
Shema: you need to provide a photocopy of all the documents you will be submitting to the embassy. To keep things organized, bind all the originals together and all the photocopies with a binder clip or a big paper clip.
You don’t need to buy a ticket yet.
Hi
I have Australian visa, I have been to Oz and was married with oz guy. unfortunately our marriage didn’t work out… I am holding a temporary resident visa.. can i use that visa to go America? as a tourist?
I don’t know. Best to check with the US Embassy. They have a visa blog at http://blogs.usembassy.gov/philippines/
hi miss nina,
Having a relative or friend in Australia is not a requirement to get a visa. You just need to be able to prove that you can fund your trip to the country and that you have strong reasons to come back to the Philippines.
Hi Nina, I would just like to ask if do I still need to show my bank statements, credit limit and payslip even if my friend already sent an invitation letter and enclosed documents as source of funds that will prove that he can accommodate my living expenses, round trip ticket and all. Hope to hear from you, Thanks ~ Fay
Yes, it’d be great if you can also provide documents that prove you have the capacity to fund your trip even if your friend is sponsoring you.
Thank you so much Nina.. ๐
This is my first to apply and i have ZERO idea. Please help me. Thank you

I am currently employed, I have a Credit Card with 40K limit, but no money in my bank account. I can provide payslips and ITR,COE, credit card statements but I have no money in my ATM. I would like to know how much money do i need to have in my account?
Looking forward to hear from you.. ๐

HI Jaye ๐

I tried to request kase for a 3month VL, di ako pinayagan.. So baka di i-approve ng embassy application ko..

Hi miss nina,
I already gather all the document that needed for my tourist visa to australia. ask ko lng po sa manager’s check po na kukunin ko ano po ba ang tamang ilagay sa pay to Australian embassy lang ba?
Hi miss nina,
I already gather all the document that needed for my tourist visa to australia. ask ko lng po sa manager’s check po na kukunin ko ano po ba ang tamang ilagay sa pay to Australian embassy lang ba? sana po matulungan nyo po ako uli, thanks po.
Yes, pay to Australian Embassy
hi ms Nina,
i hope you could help me with this…me and my boyfriend open up a joint account just very recent and i have my own bank account too.but what i got for the embassy is just a bank certificate and i got no bank statements. is it a possible refusal?but other than that i got all the necessary documents.but our funds in the bank are not that of big amount but he sent me his evidence of funds in australia and on the statutory declaration he put there that he will support me all the way with my expenses while i am in australia?please give me more insights about it because i am very nervous…thank you very much and God bless you!
Hi Vinz, to be honest, I can’t really say whether you’d have a good chance or not. When I applied for a visa, I didn’t have a sponsor, so I don’t know what the process is if somebody is sponsoring an applicant. The bank certification will do, as that’s what the embassy is requiring, not the statement.
thank you Nina..i will let you know about the decision of my application once i got it…but honestly, you are such a big help and relief to us…God bless you…
Hi Nina. He’s an Australian po. Pls help us po.
As of now. ung mga doc namin eto po
-Penal Clearance
-Bank Certificate
-Letter fr my employer confirming my leave po
-Certificate of employment
-Pictures namin when he visited me last aug
-ITR and business permint ng parents ko kasi nilagay namin sila sa evidence of funds
Doc fr him
– Invitation
– His bank statements
– His passport
-tenancy agreement
Question ko po Ms Nina:
Kailangan po kaya namin bumili pa ng ticket for me?
Thank you so much po. Godbless
Regarding the birth certificate, actually they don’t need it for a short tourist visa. I just submitted my documents today and I’m praying and hoping it will be granted. I requested my NSO birth certificate thru e-census and paid 315 thru a bank, unfortunately, when I lodge my application and asked what am I going to attached whether the acknowledgement form that e-census sent to my email or the bank receipt, and they said they don’t need it for a short visit. Well I still included it since I paid for it already and it will be delivered din sa Australian embassy so wala naman akong gagawin na although sayang din yung 315 ๐ But its up to you, you can go ahead and get it. May step by step naman sa VIA website on how to lodge your nso. Lagay u lang na delivery address is yung sa Australian embassy, it’s all there once you open the VIA wizard.
G_F – Thank u po. Hi ask ko lng sana nagpasa ka po ba ng NBI? kasi some says na ung for abroad daw ung ipasa ko na nbi, some says normal na NBI lng. NBI nlng po kasi kulang namin.
Tapos po. How much na show money po kaya ang kailangan?
Thank you po.
Thank u.
Regarding NBI, according dun sa guy who is in front of the embassy (or VIA), supporting documents lang yun for character reference but they don’t require it naman, although I did get mine, pero may hint ako so I have to get it sa Sept 26 pa, so I had no choice but to lodge my application without it. You can pass it, anyway di naman mahal kumuha (115). NBI local or abroad, its the same thing, same amount I guess, but better get for the abroad. If you are within Manila, I suggest kumuha ka dun sa Ever Gotesco Recto or Otis, mine was sa recto, mas mabilis kasi dun compare sa main, yun lang you have to be there as early as 6am? (ako, from 8am, finished ng 11) not that bad naman. I didn’t get any bank statement from me, kasi I’m not confident sa funds ko so ung bf ko lang. Actually, dami mo na ngang documents eh. Dami ko na ring na read sa mga forums na even having 1million sa funds mo eh it doesn’t mean u’ll get approved, some have 20k and they were approved. So I guess, just prepare all the possible documents, pray hard and expect the best ๐
BTW, I’m still waiting for the result, so still praying for it.
hi G_F!when did you lodge your application?just lodged mine yesterday…ill pray for you too…please pray for me also…thank you…:)
hi Maija…i just want you to know that we have exactly the same situation and the documents needed by the embassy. but on my part my bf and his mum was able to send me statutory declaration in a right form with the date signed by the JP or Justice of Peace in Australia parang notarized dito satin yun signed by a lawyer. yesterday i have lodged it already and just praying so hard to have it approved. but i think you already have the enough documents. but sometimes we need to exaggerate
the documents because they dont have interviews, so it is our documents who will speak for us. i hope and pray that all of us who has the honest intentions going to the Land Down Under will be given the chance. Regarding the birth certificate just submit the NSO released it is what they are asking. no need for ticket yet. statutory form your bf can buy it in australia some JP’s have them. tell him to go to a Jp if he knows one. God bless us all…
vinz; san destination mo sa australia if u dont mind.i will lodge my application nextmonth. post mo dito ur application result.godbless with urs application.
ok eden i will post it whether denied or approved that way i can help somehow…sa NSW ako eh…country side…God bless us all!
vinz sa sydney kaba?jan din sana destination ko.kung papalarin.kung kaawaan ni god.salamat sa reply.if u dont mind at me sa fb.edzyang@yahoo.com
Vinz- hi goodluck po. pls update us bout the result of ur application :-). Probably i’ll lodge mine next week.
hi,
Please visit the Australian immigration website.
Hi nina. Thank you so much nina
di ba sa form 3 lang pagpilian,3,6,12 so kahit 15 days ka lang dun for example u put check on 3 months ,,you got 3 months visa if granted,,kc ganun din sakin 1 month lang me pero i put check 3 months,,then they grant me 3 months visa,
tanong ko po sa lahat: kilala nyo po ba tong AUSPHIL CONSULTANCY SERVICES?.sila po kasi yung magprocess ng tourist visa application ko by nxtmonth.di kasi na approved ung first visa application ko. kaya magpapatulong ako sa kanila.takot akong ma deny ulit ang second application ko.thanks in advance.
yes. my friend got her visa approved dahil sa tulong nila.. and i will ask the same help from them. i hope maapprove visa ko.. PM mo ko sa ym:i_am_fay
hi nina,
how to get a manager’s check if i dont have any existing accounts sa banko?? anu po kaya pede kong gawin? please help…
thanks
hi…i hope i can help you with a bit of information i know…you can buy in a bank by opening a new account then just tell them to debit it from it opening an account for single savings is just one day process…or you can also ask a friend who has a bank account and just pay it to him or her…it is 5,300 for a temporary stay (tourist visa) and the beneficiary name is AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY…additional info aside from the 5,300 pesos you also need a 600 pesos cash that you will need when all your documents are ready and your manager’s check ready for lodging…
thanks Vinz for the info but i asked the bank if ever i open for a new account will they able to give me the check but they’ve told me that the account needs to be active for atleast 6 months before they can issue a check for me.. i am thinking to pay the visa thru money order but i dont have any idea about it. i hope any of you could help me regarding this matter and also i’ve been trying to call the via call center to make an appointment for the lodging of my application but i couldnt reach them i am using my globe prepaid mobile phone. please help me…..
thanks!
Iyah, this is what you can do. Ask some of your friends na merong bank account. Just tell them that you will be needing a manager’s check. Madali lang naman yun. I’ve got mine kasi sa bank ko thru BDO, but I paid in cash and there was no problem with that. In your case, since wala kang acct, ask someone na lang. Be with that person, and give him/her 5,300 or deposit it sa kanyang account para kukunin na lang ng bank dun yung amount. If you want to pay the perosn in exchange of favor na hinihingi mo, go for it but I don’t think its a big deal. Ang gagawin nya lang is go to the bank, tell them na need nya ng manager’s check, the charge for it can vary from 50-100 lang siguro. Write there sa beneficiary is Australian Embassy, and wait for it lang. It doesn’t matter naman kung kaninong account yung ginamit mo so long as you pay them thru a manager’s check. Bring it with you once you lodge your application… yun yung una nilang inask sakin :p
hi G_F thanks for the info. ganun nga gagawin ko eh kc no choice na rin me pero lucky me friend ako na pumayag sa favor ko. by the way, G_F ask ko sana kung dumeretso ka na ba sa via center para i-lodge ung application mo or tumawag kpa sa callcenter nila para magpa appointment 4 lodging your applications? please give me idea..
thanks again
hope to hear from u soon..
Hi Iyah!
Yes, i went directly at VIA office since dito rin naman ako sa Manila. But if you can’t or don’t want to walk in sa office nila to lodge ur application, you can call their hotline and arrange for the pick up of ur docus, but I suggest if your within Manila area lang naman, ikaw na lang maglakad. Actually, it took me just 30minutes to finish everything. They are nice naman there. At the entrance, they’ll ask right away for the manager’s check (dunno if ganun sila tlaga), then check ur application form. After that, wait for your number to be called (i just came in when they called my #) bilis, fill out a form ulit, then submit all ur docus, then cashier and pay another 600, then back to the person to whom u submitted ur docus. They’ll tell u abt the processing days etc… and hola, ur done! Well not really done since u have to pray hard, let the agony of waiting begins and celebrate once ur visa has been approved ๐ Mine will be next week, so I’m still praying hard for it. I’ll keep Nina’s blog informed abt it.
hi G_F
Thanks for the info and it’s a big help for me. i am not that familiar in makati could you help me again how to get to the via center…from shaw boulevard to via center in makati. thank you again!!
god bless
Iyah, from MRT Shaw, you can drop by either to Magallanes or Ayala station. If you drop off sa Magallanes station, lakad ka lang towards the jeepney terminal sa Mantrade, and ride a jeep going to Ayala. Or, take MRT to Ayala station. Lakad ka papuntang Park square 1, medyo malapit lang naman, then ride a jeepney going to Libertad, tell the driver na sa Corportae plaza/center ka baba. If medyo hassle sayo ang jeepney, like in my case, you can just simply take a taxi from SM Makati/Landmark/Greenbelt ๐ but go for the jeepney, don’t be afraid since wala naman appointment dun sa VIA, so for sure walang maghihintay sayo ๐ you can go there until 4pm (was there like 2pm already)
Thank You So Much!!!! G_F
gud luck for both of us!!
god bless
Hi Guys!
๐ and yes, i was granted a tourist visa for 3mos. Actually, I applied last Sept 12 and got my visa last Sept 20.
Una kong nakita ung mga original docs ko, so natakot ako ksi akala ko hnd na binabalik un. un ksi ung sabi ng VIA center sakin nung ni-lodge ko ung application sa knila…but then again…when I saw my passport and the visa na nakaattached don, it was granted. ๐ Im so happy…
Thanks to this blog. mejo 1 week din akong nagbabasa ng mga post nyo habang naghihintay ng magging result ng application ko.. ๐ dont forget to pray guys! it helps also. ๐

congrats…please pray for us too…by the way can you give us some info on the documents you submitted?thank you…and enjoy your trip to the land down under…God bless!
Hi! Here are the documents I submitted to VIA center:
1) Form 48R
2) Passport
3) Birth Cert
4) NBI
5) Bank certificate
6) Cert. of Employment
(All original copies)
Plus, since I have sister in australia, she provided me with the scanned copy of her Statutory declaration and her bank certificate.
Form of payment: MANAGER’s cheque Payable to “AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY” for P5,300. + Cash of P600 for services of VIA.

Hi Ms. Nina,
May I ask what are sample proof na pwede ipakita sa VIA na I have reason to go back here. I am currently employed po but sad to say na mare-retrench po ako end of October. So wala po ako mababalikan na work, but for sure, uuwi ako ng Pilipinas before my visa expires. How can I prove that to the embassy? I am planning to lodge my application on Monday. I have all the other reqts except for this thing– katibayan na babalik po ako dito. Please help. Thank you. ๐
guys help me, PM me on ym: i_am_fay
Hi Fay, sorry, ngayon lang ako nakabalik. Since you’re still employed, you can submit a certificate of employment. Unless your company states that you will be retrenched, I don’t think it would be a problem.
Hi Nina,
i have read some of the entries here in your blog and i have some questions also.
im 22 years old and a fresh graduate, i have an aunt who is living in australia and is already a citizen. is it advisable to apply for a tourist visa and then process my working visa when im already in australia?and i’m also planning to apply for a “citizenship by descent” once i already had a visit…please help
You can be in Australia while your working visa is being processed. I’m not sure if you can lodge it while you’re there though.
Must be lodged from overseas.
hi mabasa ko online that some documents are need to be notarized daw. like passport? is it really necessary?
Ung certficate of employment and Letter of approval of my leave wala pong seal pero may letter head ok lng kaya un? may nag sabi po na ipanotarized ko daw.. kailngan ko pa ba un? thanks po ๐
for me ung pinasa ko wala namang notarized un,,at ung coe and letter of approval just a letter that you sign an agreement to your company that you should be back after your vacation,,no need to notarized girl,,,
hi nina,
ask po ako hindi po ako nag work, hindi na po ako nagskol, anu ba documents gagamitin ko in order to proof that im not going to be an illegal immigrant?reply pls.mag apply po ako ng tourist visa…isa pang question maam nina…would australian embassy allow to have 1 year holiday/tourist visa?kasi po un gusto ng fiance ko na mag stay ako for 1 year in townsville, australia, reply po sana matulungan po nin u ako,
