[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

I lodged my application through VIA center September 30…then i received a confirmation letter that they received my application Oct 4….. till now i havent receive any info regarding my application. Been waiting for 19days now. What kaya gagawin ko? DO i need just to wait or i need to call and asked them? Pls help…thanks

19 days? wow! that’s foul! prolonging the agony :p Pero given that its peak season already, it might delay some processing talaga (like Nina said, it might take a month which is the longest), but just for u to feel relax, u can do a follow up naman like what I did. Worried din kasi ako before so on the 10th biz day na wala pa ring text sakin yung Air21, I called the Embassy up and asked for it. So tawag ka na lang just to be sure, but take note lang ng per minute charge nila. I spent like 300 load kasi pinakinggan ko pa yung VO ng operator (Pbx), so once u call them, skip the Pbx system (operator saying, press 1 if u want to…blah, blah, blah!:p) Diretso ka na sa extension # ng customer service nila, Pbx VO will tell u what # u shud press, then press the # right away. Then, tell ur name and ask directly whats the status of ur application. They won’t tell u if granted or denied, they’ll simply tell u if still processing pa or for delivery na(in my case, it was for delivery na). They don’t bite naman if u call them and it won’t affect ur application 🙂 For sure, it will be granted, just keep the faith 😀

I did have a tourist visa approved last Feb and now I applied again for 6 months already..maybe thats why it is taking longer than before cause before it was just 10 days ..I do have to take medical now. Hopefully i get the result soon cause my bf purchased ticket for 8 Nov. hehehe..nakaka-stress! Enjoy your vacation there! 🙂

Oh hi G-F thanks for d immediate response…. gosh i spent too much with my call. And you are right, they didnt tell me about the result….Ive been waiting for so long. Tama ka prolonging the agony….. d longer the wait the more i feel anxious. Air21 just sent me sms this morning saying my parcel is ready for delivery. Hoping and praying that the result is positive. hello saima here i have applied visit tourist visa sub class 676 on 6th of July 2011 and i received acknowledgement letter from embacy but there is no progress i have called and email alot but they are not giving me response kindly advice me what should i do now actually i wanna go to meet my husband iam total fed up of this marriage life with out husband kindly kindly do me a favour and advice me and the process time of visit visa is 4 to 6 weeks my passport is also with them…
May I know what kind of visa u applied for Saima? Try to call the hotline that Via center gave u, the number that cost 32 pesos per minute. Because usually if Tourist visa, it will not reach that long..maybe u applied for Partner visa?
My Grandma dont want to send theyre bank statement or credit card statement because I they that is very confidential, sino dito dna kinailangan ng ganung papers from sponsor?

your grandma can send there ITR ..need yun kasi supporting papers yun kung kaya ka nila supportahan kapag nandun ka.kahit anong qtr na latest na bnayaran nila ok yun .kc family sponsored ka.

Saima, good day! You have the hotline number right? you can use that and call the embassy. Its much reliable info if its coming from there. I tried to email also the embassy but all i got is an acknowledgement letter that they received my email about my concern but no reply from case officer.
Another thing, did u provide your number on the application or ur email add? Did u get an acknowledgement letter stating that they received your visa application? When was your acknowledgement date? 4 months is way too long ..on my own opinion.
@saima- hello i understand what u feel bec my husband is in oz and weve been apart for almost 1yr na… from what i know tourist visa will took only 5-7 business days but since i think october is a peak month it would take longer than that, 1month i think is the longest period… i havent known my visa result yet and its my 5th day… kindly read the older comments saima u will get alot of tips there as we have the same application here… most of their visa were granted, so surely you will get an answer to their comments… 🙂

@meraflor- sponsored visit kba? kasi ako may sponsor so ung sinumbit ko is payslip nya, passport, driver’s license… sa pagkakabasa ko sa comment dito ng iba, they submit their bank statement din and they got their visa approved… actually im not sure dyan sa land title pero isali mo na lang girl, much better if ma-maximize mo mga docs mo… right now, im not getting any answer yet sa application ko pero reading from the tips sa ibang comment they didnt exaggerate their docs pero nagrant nman ang visa… 🙂

@ mera..kung sponsored visa ka, importante my statutory declaration, pakuhanin mo sya sa police station nila ng applicationand then papipirmahan nya yun ulit dun, stating dun na sya susuport sa lahat ng need mo and assuring that you will be going back on the date stated..kc yun sponsor mo mananagot sayo.and tama si robbie imortante ang invitation letter with signature kapag iniscan syo.Ok din isama mo ang land title ipanotarized mo nalang yun copy.I hope this will help

Hello GC, di pwede mag apply ng visa if you don’t have passport kasi isa yan sa requirements, at sa application mo rin kasi kailangan ilagay mo ang details ng passport mo. kaya hintayin mo muna makuha passport mo bago ka mag apply. God bless 🙂

u may have also to present bank certificate “show money” worth 100k in ur bank account.
present your employment certificate, your business license, show your credit cards at ung passbook pagkaka alam ko pa print daw yan tas punta ka sa abogado pa notarized mo.separate all the xerox copy and the original total babalik nman daw yan sau ipapadala pag ok na visa mo.
Flor it’s not necessary na meron kang 100k sa bank. I know someone na hndi nag submit ng bank statement nya pero naaproved visa nya. I ddnt say na wag ka mag pasa pero the immigration doesnt require their applicant na magkaroon ng gnung pera.
Ferdi: Hi just ask ur friend to send u an invitation and stat declaration. Your credit card will do, Ask mo sa bank if u can request po ung credit card limit statement or something like that. What I did before was I photocopied my credit card 🙂

I have bank account both dollar and peso, but i dont have a job right now it ends last june pa, then ayun nga nakasama ko sila dito naging tourist guide nla ko, then nung andun na sila gusto nila ko iinvite, via email nalang daw nila isesend ung statutory letter, pati yung mga passport copy nila pero d daw nila kelangan mag pakita ng bank statement or tax return, kasi may friend sya dati na nagtour na sya rin nag bigay ng letter na yun din ang mga bnigay nya, pag na deny ba tatatakan yung passport ko, kakarenew ko lang nun, haayy ayun so diko pa tlga alam medyo badtrip nga ako e.
Can anyone give me a link to buy travel insurance for my g/f when she comes to Australia. As all I can get is insurance here in Aust and not in the Philippines and these companys dont sell it for travel from Philippines only from Australia to Phillippines not other way around this is what I need

@ GC hello..pwede nman ipasa mo na kya lng kc nakalagay din sa info nila d more incomplete papers mo mas matatagalan kc pending din yun..Try mo kung d2 ka sa manila sana pwede tumuloy ka sa via center kc mas masasagot nila ng maayos ang tanung mo.Ok dun in person ang inquiry mo.para d ka na doubt.mas makakatipid ka pa kesa mag fon call ka..
Hi.. My Aussie bf wanted me to get a tourist visa to Sydney. Maapprove ba un if I will submit a letter of invitation from him or baka maghinala ung embassy na magpakasal nako dun at di na bumalik dito sa pinas.
I have around 250,000 pesos sa bank and a job that pays me 20k per month.. sufficient na ba un pra maapprove ako kahit di nako humingi ng Invite from him?

Hi anne,if someone invited you to come over in his country dapat may invi letter sa kanya at stat dec and other supporting documents from both of you… kahit million pa yan pera .. hindi yan batayan na makapasa ka…. walang problema kung ikaw pakasal dun basta you have reasons to go back home after 3 months vacation.
so right! i have not submitted any bank statement but got my visa granted! but of course i submitted all other pertinent docs.. 🙂

hi everyone..im about to lodge my tourist visa application on tuesday and been so anxious about this.im planning to stay there for up to 3mons,mainly to visit my boyfriend and meet his family and friends,and of course tour australia.i have more than $3000 in my account right now and some documents to prove that my boyfriend can provide financial support when i get there.the thing though is,i dont have a stable job or any assets or properties to show them.i only work as a singer in a band and only make 10-15k a month.could these be a reason for them to deny my visa?i have a son though that i will be leaving here in manila.could that be enough proof that im really going back here?this application has been stressing me and my aussie boyfriend so much..all we want is to be together SOON.so if any of you can share some help,i would gladly appreciate it..thanks guys.
@ Ivy..sama mo na din ivy pics nyo ng son mo at ng bf mo kung meron, tsaka mga pics nyo ng bumisita sya d2 .i scan nya din syo ang entry n exit nya ng manggaling d2 na nagkita na kayo..pwede sya naka power point n konting caption or iprint out mo.

Hi Audie..thanks for replying..yeah,i might do that as well,and i already have here his stat dec,his invi letter,his and my bank statements,his payslips,copy of his passport,his cert.of employment,my sons birth cert.,my letter of employment.do you think these are enough,or do i need to get some other supporting docs?after i read all the comments here and found out that everybody got their visa granted,it kinda get my hopes up.but my bf is still trying his best so he is asking help from a migration agent to review our docs,which i really dont think is needed,he still wants to do it anyway..i hope you can tell me based on the docs i have now if i have a big chance to get a granted one..thanks.. 🙂
@ivy ok na yan sis, samahan mo nalang ng dasal,as long as kumpleto ang papel mo n totoo lahat ng inatach mo.tsaka gawa ka letter sa consul nabura kc file ko d2 sa comptr ko nagpalit kc ako ng hard disk my sample kc ako ng letter para sna mabigyan kita ng idea.nun 1st time ko nagapply.d ko kc ma post dito email ko.wag na syang pera kung kukuha pa,ganyan ang nangyari sa akin nun 1st pero taga d2.kya nga nagiging vocal ako ngmaktulong din sa iba n wer almost d same case.buti nga meron ganitong blogs kya thanks kay miss nina.d2 din ako nagsimula.dmi kmi d2 na help syo.my facebuk ka ba? add nlang kita n leave ako message para makilala mo ako.

ung invitation letter ba and stat declaration pareho lang? pwde na bang proof of income ung payslip nya? if so, how many months na payslip?
Hi Anne,
Magkaiba yung invitation letter sa statutory declaration. Ang invitation letter ay manggagaling sa sponsor mo na Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident. Your sponsor has to state in his letter the reasons why he is inviting you to come over to Australia, details of your relationship, the duration of your visit, and he should also state that all your expenses, financial needs and accommodation, will be shouldered by him. The statutory declaration is an oath or an affidavit wherein your sponsor can state important details of your relationship, your visit, his job, home address and how is he going to support you while you are in Australia and most of all he has to state that you are indeed returning to your home country after your visit. Your sponsor can get a form from the Justice of Peace or Post Office. After filling out the form with all the details I mentioned above, he needs to sign it and have it signed by the Justice of Peace or any professional person he knows, like a doctor, lawyer, teacher, dentist, a government employee, clerk of court etc.
About payslip, in my case, I submitted 6 months of my sponsor’s payslip and his current Income Tax Return.
@ anne, hello..ang stat dec is fm the police station and certain establishment na nagbbgay nito, alam yan ng bf mo, its almost d samme with the invitation pero sa stat dec namin nilalagay namin na ginaguarantee nya na babalik ako sa date na intended..
about the payslip the latest n to include the ITR.
hope this help dont forget the signature of your bf in stat dec n invitation kpag enemail nya syo.
For Anne,Invi letter and statutory declaration are different. Stat dec is a form…statutory of declaration act of 1959… papirmahan yan sa abogado…your bf will have to make this stating that he provide you everything while in OZ. All bills will be passed too kahit this year na kasi parang quarterly ang bayad nila. and property rate notice kung meron sya at bank certificate…. passport copy, I.d…

Just wanna ask kasi I lodged my application last oct 20 then yesterday I just received a text that my passport/documents are ready for delivery back to me just wondering coz I didnt recieve acknowledgement letter from the embassy?anyone experience that?this is my second time to applied for visa and the first time I received acknowledgement letter but I didnt got a text..so confused?

good luck po sa ibang nag submit ng applications.. 😀 yung amin, sinubmit namin nung october 24, kaka receive lang namin kaninang 1pm, November 8 nang aming passport… sana madali rin lang yung sa inyo… 😀
sana ako rin makuha ko na and magrant din visa ko… oct 24 ako naglodge sa via then nakatanggap ako ng text kinabukasan na natanggap na ng embassy…

sana ma receive mo na po yung passport niyo with the VISA.. 😀 akala ko nga matatagalan eh kasi season na ngayon.. dami na daw nag aaply tapos mi mga holidays pa… buti nalang di naman pala masyadong matagal.. 😀

personal po akong nagpunta sa VIA centre… kasi pareho tayo nang opinion eh… na parang mas mabuti kung sa VIA centre mo talaga i submit.. kasi ni rereview nila lahat yung requirements mo lalo na yung form mo para sure na tama yung mga info na nakalagay.. tapos nagbibigay rin sila ng tips on what to submit.. 😀

no need for an appointment po.. deretso ka lang sa VIA centre… i entertain ka nila kaagad… pero mi cut-off time sila… hanggang 3:30pm lang ata on weekdays at 12 noon on saturday.. 😀 godbless po! 😀
