[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

by the way, question po, mga retirees na po sila, but they are both US green card holders, will it help po sa application nila ung pagka US green card holder? at tsaka, ano po ung dapat na i submit na documents, ok na po bah yung bank account or credit card statements?

Hi Marina, I don’t think I submitted my NBI clearance when I applied for my tourist visa. If they’re retirees, I don’t think they’re required to submit a certificate of employment 😉

Certificate of employment (which states how long I’ve been with the company, how much I’m making and my approved leave dates)

Usually, the embassy is granting 3 month tourist visa for first timer. Just to be safe..u can apply for that. Good luck!

i lodged my application last sept 19,nd will be getting the result this monday since mali “daw” ung address ko according to air21…prolonging the agony:) anyway,regardng nso, it will cost you 315,but they don’t actually need it for a short visit like 3mos, kc they didn’t want to get the receipt from e-census,di daw nila need but i insisted lang since i paid for it na nd delivery was sa aust. Embassy. Just lodge nd paid it 2 days earlier b4 u lodge ur visa. hope magrant tayo:)

no you dont need to make,,just go to there via center in one corporate plaza,9th floor then hingi ka dun ng application form and they will guide you what your documents to be needed,,
the NSO will be address to the the AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY,,actually ako kumuha before me maglodged ng documents ko kasi 2 to 3 workings days yata ung NSO

If you mean to say with “cover letter” like making it more proffy, nope you don’t need to write one. I guess if you’re going to use an agent to work on your behalf (lodging your application etc…), what you have to write is just an authorization letter. Ask ate Gemwell, she also used an agent and was granted, maybe she could help you, or try to read her previous posts/comments in this post 🙂

Hi! When will you lodge your application? I’ve lodged mine last Sept 19, and hopefully I’ll get the result today. I have to call Air21 coz they got my address wrong, sana delivery rin is today… prolonging the agony :p but yeah, I pray that it’s a BIG YES! 😀 Lodge your application as early as possible since it’s “ber” month, and they are getting a lot of applicants already and that means, it will take longer for them to process the results.

It’s ok, pareho lang kasi tayong mga first timer 🙂 Anyway, maybe ate Gemwell is busy na din, pero kung may FB ka po, you can add me, then later add her. Here https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=565642381 so you can ask her what other documents pinasa nya since someone worked on her behalf. Just a suggestion, you can still use your draft cover letter and make it also as your authorization letter in one so hindi naman wasted ang effort mo. You don’t have to write more details about your plan trip since you will write them all naman sa form that you’re going to fill up… though medyo limited ang space sa form so you can just make it “supporting details” about your plan,like this is glenda… indicating my purpose to have a short trip to Au (indicate the date, and plans like where will you be staying, places you’ll visit- u don’t have to exag it naman, just be honest) who knows, it can be a plus point in getting approved. Then on the 2nd paragraph, u can just write your authorization letter. Wish us all the best:)

like you i contact Ausphil to do my application, kasi marami na dito nagpatulong sa kanila and approve lahat,they are very good office , wala pa silang visa na deny to OZ.. like u also i live in bacolod, if your interested.. doon na lang kayo( tayo) mag communicate sa kaniya kong ano mas maigi gawin…meet her or send the docs….. balitaan mo rin ako ritzel kong don ka mag patulong sa kanila,,, i’ll let you know also.. i talk to my sponsor later about this… goodluck..

hi din!ang alam ko if more than 6 months tourist visa ang aaplyan mo dun palang kailangan ng medical. so if less than 3 months lang naman kahit hindi na. if wala ka COE, just get some other things that would help you to make a stand to the embassy that you are 100% sure of going back here in the philippines like business or you have a very strong family ties and that you would be able to support your travel…hope this helps you…don’t hesitate to ask if you have some more questions and it is better to be specific so that others can also help you…goodluck!God bless! 🙂

hi!if you will check naman kasi dun sa mga requirements from the embassy hindi naman talaga necessary na meron kang invitation from anyone in australia…for as long na ma prove mo lang sa kanila na you are capable to manage all the expenses of your travel at meron kang matibay na proof to come back after your visa expires…if you have a business, make sure it is DTI registered and that you have a current business permit and updated lahat ng papers including the bank statement or savings account mo which dun mo hinuhulog ang mga profit mo coming from your business…ako kasi aside from my bank account and yung sponsor ko nga, i added my mom’s business documents and bank statement…super exaggerated ang ginawa ko…kasi we can’t defend ourselves when our application has been sent to the case officer, so what i did is, i made all my documents and papers talked and defended for me…gusto nila honest to goodness…so lahat ng pwede mo ipass, isama mo sa envelope mo…kung may business ka gumawa ka ng letter head regarding the nature of your business and who is going to take over while you travel..pictures ng business mo and kung gaano ito ka profitable…as in lahat ng pwede nilang maibutas sayo para i refuse ang visa isipin mo na before mo i lodge ang application….don’t worry, once na approve naman ang visa mo lahat ng pagod, hirap and tyaga sulit lahat…PRAYERS and PRAYERS yan ang pinaka importante…i hope i am able to help somehow…good luck…:)
ung invitation letter kelangan lang un kung merun mag sponsor ng trip mo dun sa autralia.. based on my experience, invitation letter from my aussie bf na nagsasabi na xa ang lahat gagastos sa trip namin ng son ko papuntang australia at pabalik ng pinas then sagont din nya ang accomodation namin at expenses dun. attached passport copy nya then copies ng bank statement nya, income tax return nya at house details. wala kc me pinasang any bank account ko, at wala din me work now. pero bilang proof na babalik ako after my visa expires nag attached me ng mga previous copies ng stamped passport ko galing sa ibang bansa like brunei, japan at kuwait. wala po akong pinasang E-CENSUS.
i am very happy at na approved visa namin ng son ko. we will be spending christmas to the country down under. yehey!!

Will you be there this Nov 8, or same with ate Gemwell na this month na? kasi to Sydney na rin ang flight ko, then drive all the way to Canberra na lang.

Read some previous posts Ana, it will help you a lot:) I suggest, lodge your application as soon as possible since its peak season na so meydo matagal yung processing kasi marami nagaapply, normally weeks to a month. You can do it 😀

Hi Ana. I didn’t go to them kasi, ako lang naglakad kasi dito lang naman me sa Manila and gusto rin ni bf na mexperience ko yung processing kasi madali lang naman daw. Actually kapag ok namn na yung papers mo, u can do it by yourself, but if ur not confident enough and u think processing makes u dizzy, then for Ausphil. I don’t know much abt them, but some of the people here went thru them like ate gemwell, fay and majia.. don’t know with the others. You can try to contact them and see for yourself, but I suggest, if your in Mla or ur confident naman sa papers mo, do it na lang na ikaw. I didn’t pass any bank statement kasi I don’t have much in my acct, not even COE kasi pahirapan makakuha sa work. So what I only submitted were; invitation letter from my bf who will sponsor me, his passport copy, his salary statement and electric bill. Yun lang, of course these might not be “strong documents” as per criteria, maybe it was just my luck or they were in a good mood when they got my papers, so better get all the possible documents na din just to be sure, and prayers 🙂
Hi Ana.. 🙂 I went thru Ausphil.. 5k yung fee nila. pero 2 givs. 2500 upon submitting ur papers to Ms. Adelle then yung other half pag naapprove Visa mo.. I was not that confident kase kaya I went thru them. Lodge your application na rin kase peak period na. Ako nga eh medyo matagal result. Am still waiting for it. Hopefully next week or bukas meron na.. Lodge na para sbay sbay tayo sa November.. 🙂 🙂 🙂

for me nagastos ko kasi is 5,300 for manager’s check plus 600 handling fee sa embassy,un lang nagastos ko kasi kumpleto naman me sa documents nun,,,tsaka kung tita u gagastos ng fare u,wla u masyado gastusin,maybe fare for you for getting of your some documents

Sana kahit abutin ng katapusan basta sana POSITIVE..

I haven’t looked at the form or the immigration website recently, but the last time I did, I think they’re now giving a 12-month visa. Best to check with them.

Ma. Cecilia… just get those available docus on ur part and NEVER EVER try to fake anything as they have means to know it. I also put in my application na unemployed ako, no bank certificate as well. My bf just invited me so most of the docus na pinasa ko were from him, and they granted me a visa. So even if your unemployed, you still have the chance, basta be honest and prayers do best 🙂 Join ka sa FB group chat namin nila Fay so we can have some updates 🙂 Wish you luck!

as i read in internet pwede naman kaso need u imeet ung requirements nila as i read lang naman you need $5000 australian in your account,pero ask u din sa via center kung pwede
@ Ms Jaye, i read your posts, ask ko lang if how long did you wait for d approval of your visa. I lodgedmy application in VIA center last Sept 30…. they told me i have to wait 7 to 10 days. Nag follow up ka ba or u just waited for the result? Medyo anxious ako, kasi i dont know if my tourist visa will be approved. Diko kasi pinasa pictures namin ng bf ko and western union proofs na nagpapadala siya. I only submitted yung bank certificate ko (with 150k fund), 48R form, copy of our passports, his certificate of citizenship (as australian citizen), my birth certificate, Invitation Letter and yung Visa Request Letter ko, his bank statement. Are those docs enough na kaya?
Just wait lang Xen. Once the processing has been done, you’ll receive a text message from Air21 telling you that your docus are ready to be delivered right in front of your door. No need to call them, not unless Air21 got your address wrong like in my case. Patience is the virtue, and of course prayers, it’ll be worth the wait once you see the visa stamp in your passport 🙂 Where in OZ are you planning to go, and when?
yes xen just wait lang if you pass it tru via center just wait there text,in my case kasi sabi ko sa via center ko na lang kunin so when they received my application from embassy they text me na ready to pick up na daw,,aun ako na lang mismo kumuha sa via centre..i think your documents is enough na din,,honestly wala talaga kong ipinasang bank statement,,as i mentioned above un lang talaga..just keep on praying lang and it will help,,,

Did u include statutory declaration from your bf? That is very important for them cause that would prove that he will make sure u will go back home after your visa expires.

– statutory declaration from the sponsor that is signed by JP (justice of peace) parang notary public satin. together with it is the bank statement. i have 2 sponsors by the way.
– the passport of my sponsors
– my birth cert from NSO
– my penal/NBI clearance purpose: TRAVEL TO AUSTRALIA
– my bank statements
– my COE signed by my boss with the company’s heading, signed approved leave and salary after tax
– payslips
– pictures of me and my sponsors because they came here to visit me and my family 3 times
– my letter of introduction and the nature of my relationship with my sponsors
– letter of invitation from the sponsor
– chats and emails and phones bills
– family ties here in the philippines that will let the embassy know you are sure to go back here because of your family
– my mother’s business permit and DTI certificate and bank accounts for her incomes
– my brother’s certificate of employment
– i passed everything that i know will help me speak on my behalf because we can’t personally talk to any case officer. so better maximize all you resources to get what you can and give it to the embassy with 100% honesty. because they will know everything. they called my bank and my employer to confirm what i passed. and PRAYERS! most important ask the guidance of the Lord…hope i was able to help…i’ll look at my files if may forget pako…i’ll let you know…:)

what i did is every document i put label using post its. then on the photocopy of all my documents i put a big paper clip. ganun ang ginawa ko super inorganize ko talaga para hindi mainis ang case officer na hahawak sa application ko…then i submitted a narration too…which i think helped a lot…:)…God bless!
Im unemployed ngayon tnapos ko na kasi yung contract ko nung june, then my grandma and grandpa wants me to visit australia, I have a dollar account ($5000) then peso account of 30,000 ano pang requirements kelangan ko, we have photos cause they visited me last sept. does being unemployed affect of having a tourist visa? thanks in advance.
I didn’t pass any COE and bank certificate kasi pahirapan makakuha ng COE sa work so I put there “unemployed” since even if I have work, I can’t prove it and medyo hassle na din. I don’t even have that huge amount so no bank cert. Just pass all the docus available on ur part. They approved mine even though I don’t have that strong docus as per criteria, but I guess it’s a case to case basis. Just get ur papers, and don’t try to fake anything, and be accurate na din when answering the form 🙂

Hello ma Cicelia, sa akin it takes more than 10 working days bago ko nakuha result ko, i lodge it thru their official courier the air21, na pick up sa akin last September 22, natanggap ng embassy September 26,2011 na naaproved visa ko October 12, 2011 nabalik sa akin ang docs ko October 13, 2011 na, cguro kaya natagalan dihil yata sa bagyo. pero yong mga nauna na naaprove 7 working days nga lang. Na lodge mo na ba mga docs mo?

If you are going thru Consultancy, I highly recommend AUSPHIL, Service fee nila is 5K. 2 gives, pay the half upon submitting your docs, then the full pag approve na Visa mo. Compared to other Consultancy/Agency, AUSPHIL is cheaper when it comes to Service Fee.. 🙂

That is too much. Based on the stories shared by other commentators here, if you’re sponsoring her, you’d be showing the embassy your own documents that can prove you can support her trip to Australia.

Bro, my bf is the who sponsor me and I have not submitted my bank statement (though he sent me 60,000 pesos for my bank statement, but due to some problem in my bank, i was not able to provide the said statement on day i submitted my documents) and i got my VISA approved. I only spent a total of 11,000 pesos for my VISA!! Yea, seriously that’s TOOOOOO much! But it’s still up to you if u are going to send her that amount, after all she is your girlfriend.
Just send her an invitation letter, indicate there that u are going to shoulder all her accomodationliving expenses including air tickets. And send all the necessary proof of funds that u have there(payslips/bank statements/business permit/ and all other proofs)

That’s right you dont need to give that big amount ,,yup for me i lodged direct tru via center i spent 5300 for managers check and 600 for handling fee,,and the documents of my bf that i passed is his invitation letter that indicate that you are going to shoulder all the expenses,whatever stuff maybe and accomodation while she is in australia and passport.Yup what Fay said she can submit her coe,For me i work also fulltime in phils and i submitted my coe,For me we didnt pass any bank statement

Maybe you can try to save that amount for yourself as a back up in case your gf’s tourist visa won’t work and you guys can meet half way in Bali :p LOL, just kidding. But seriously, that is way too much. I guess a lot of people applying for a tourist visa take some of the requirements TOO serious, where in fact, the embassy is mostly just looking for something honest and accurate. I went to VIA and lodge my application by myself. I didn’t pass COE (although I have work but its hard to get COE in a BPO), and didn’t even submitted any bank statement. So most of the documents I submitted were my bf’s (His passport copy, pay summary, electric bill, and invitation letter) and then answered the form as honest as I could, except that I had to declare that I’m unemployed…well it didn’t really matter since I was granted, I guess the credit goes to my bf’s papers 🙂 I know some girls who even have few hundreds thousands in their bank acct, have some properties under their name and yet still denied. So as what people are saying here.. it all boils down to YOUR papers since you’re the who’s going to invite her. Just write a detailed invitation letter, include how you would be able to accommodate her during the entire period (where she will be staying,places you’ll visit,how long etc), what expenses are you going to shoulder (travel, daily and other expenses). As for your gf, as an alternative to a bank statement, she can get her payslip (like what Fay said), COE and approved leaves. We all wish you the best 🙂

For some who lodge directly their application at VIA, only spent 6,000 pesos. But for me, since I was not that confident about my application, I went through a Consultancy (AUSPHIL) and I paid them 5,000 pesos for their service fee, so all in all, I spent 11,000.
You mentioned that your girl is working full time. So if she’s going to get a vacation leave for 2weeks that’s great, she can submit her paylips/COE and i think (base in my case) will not require her an amount of 250,000 pesos.
Anyway, whatever question you have, just post here. We are all willing to help you..

I didn’t and was granted naman. Hindi naman ganun kacomplicated magprocess so long as you have all your docus on hand, and you’re confident enough na. But if you think, you’re not confident, well you can try to go with them. Jaye and some others did lodged their application by themselves and were also granted. On the other hand, Fay, ate Gemwell and some went with them and were granted too :p so its your final say 🙂 Prayers do best 🙂 Good luck!
g_f: thanks for the info girl 🙂 actually i prepared all my docus by myself and was picked up yesterday by air21 and hopefully dumating na sa embassy para ma-process… im confident naman kaso im so conscious lang with my application its my first time kc… im really hoping that mine will also be granted like yours… sabi ng air21 baka madelay din daw ang processing kc peak month… sana by nextweek may result na and sana granted :)… im really praying for it… thank u ulet!
