[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

Depende na yan sa iyo if gusto mo efollow up pwede kang tumawag after 10 working days but ako naghintay na lng.it takes 10 to 15 working days bago malaman mo result.

Yep 1 month lng talaga ung binigay ng immigration since 1 month lng din ung ni request ko.
Working ako but ang bf ko nag fund ng trip ko.
So both of our documents needed
Sa akin cert of employment,approval letter of leave,bank statements
Sa bf ko pay slips,invitation letter,statutory declaration,photocopy of his ID’s and passport

Walang tatak kung denied, as far as I know. As for the restrictions, no wooden items nor anything made with dairy.
Hi GC, kindly google AQIS (Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service) there you can see/find all the “Bawals” and could not bring to Ozzie…if you want to bring just honestly declare it… But be sure … no food, no wood. no dairy’s…..goodluck

the reason why, i declared that i brought medicines (hormonal pills, biogesic, neozep and solmux) and wooden item like the ratan bag i bought from kultura in SM Megamall na pasalubong ko sa mum ni bf..
tapos i got the food in my hand carry bag (bread from PAL)
as in they really inspected my luggage, wallets and all.. they also asked if i have 10,000AUD.. i said i only have 50AUD..
it took them i think 15minutes or more to inspect my stuff.. i was relieved when they finally let go of me.. thank god! 🙂

about a NBI clearance …yes, you may or you may not pass but to be sure you will pass na lang ..to show your not doing any crimes… mura lang naman ang NBI di ba..115 at supr bilis na kumuha..

No need to notarize the invitation letter from your Bf.. the embassy visa fee is 5,300 pesos which is 110 Aud… you can pay thru manager’s check basta meron kang account sa bangko payable to Australian Embassy…if you pay on money order baka mahal it has charges in every 1,000 pesos.goodluck

Hi Gwen, yes, kung sa May kapa balak u mag tour e masyado pa maaga ang december pero may point din ang bf u… at least kung makapasa ka naman may one year ang validity ng visa u.kasi other countries na pinuntahan u ay walang visa di ba…yan ang good evidences mo samahan mo na rin ng pic’s at mga copies ng stamp visa pag nag apply ka… kahit walang pera di yan batayan na hindi ka makapasa kasi sponsored and shoulder ni BF u ang pag punta u sa Ozzie..u can pass your school assessments or gawin mo na rin reasons to go back to ur own country… goodluck!!

Hi Jacqueline, are u applying for fiancee visa or visitors visa? ang stat dec (form commonwealth of australia act of 19__)ay isang malaking katibayan na nagpapatunay na he will shoulder everything on you and that will be signed by an attorney or any liable signatories like accountant, police etc….Just lodge first, if u pass then buy a ticket don’t worry maraming airlines flying to Sydney..

medical is only apply for 6 months visa pag 3 months no medical. if u are first timer better 3 months then 6 months if u would like to go back sa oz… if 6 months TV.. once u apply the embassy na mismo tatawag sa yo for medical with there respective doctors ..not your chosen doctors…

Congrats sa visa mo. I also lodged my application Oct 26 pero wala pang result. I tried tracking down my application through http://www.via.ph but to no avail. May I know how long is your stay? Ako kasi more than 3 months ang nilagay ko sa application form. This might be the reason why wala pang result. I hope to receive the result this week, God willing.

Applying for a 6 month visa is just the same for a 3 month visa. You have to fill out the same form (48R). Medical check is a requirement for those who are applying for more than months visa. You and your son will be required to have one. Once you lodged your application, the embassy will contact you through email and phone. They will send you an email that states you need to undergo medical check. Expect too a phone call from your case officer. Make sure you don’t miss the call.
I have lodged my application Oct. 26 at the VIA center. They told me that I will be contacted to have a medical check since I am applying for more than 3 months visa. After 14 days my case officer sent me an email stating I need to undergo an x-ray. I went to Nationwide Health System located at 2F Zeta II Bldg. Salcedo St. Legaspi Vill, Makati. For more info about this you can go to http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/1163i.
The way I understand it, you also need to get a clearance from DSWD for your son since he is using a different surname. My cousin have the same predicament when she brought her daughter to Hongkong. My cousin is a single mom too and her daughter bears the father’s surname so she went through all the process of getting a clearance for her daughter.
I assume that you already have your invitation letter from your sponsor. You need this to strengthen your application. You will also need documents like house details of your sponsor, his Income Tax Return, payslips, photocopy of his passport. My sponsor send me all of these documents. You also need to submit documents to prove that you are indeed coming back after your visit.

Jacquiline Gervacio, the courier will give you the reciept amount of 320.00pesos only and you dont need to pay more not unless you want to give for snacks to the one who pick up the paper!Hehehe!!!just kidding…How many months did you apply on your application? is it 48R application? Ask ko lang po kung magkano ung kelangan sa bangko if I’m aplying for tourist visa for 3 months lang. Hindi ko po kase alam kung magkano ung pera na kelangan sa bangko pag nagaaply ng ganitong visa. Meron naman mag sponsor pero ang sabi ng mga napagtanungan ko kelnagan pa daw ng pera sa bangko..

HI FLo, if your applying for tourist visa.it doesn’t mean you have a big amount of money in the bank… you can pass 3 month bank statement kasi quarterly naman nabibigay ang bangko ng BS di ba…. kahit walang account or konti lang pwede ka makapasa kasi sponsored ka naman ng Bf u…si Bf u ang mag pass ng Bank certifcate para to assure na kaya ka nya e sponsor… goodluck!!!

Pumunta ako dati sa Australian Embassy sa RCBC plaza tower 2. Pagdating ko dun pinapunta ako dun sa isang office nila sa makati din kaso located sa Buenbenidez street. Ask ko lang saan ko ba talaga ipapass application ko..thanks and have a nice day
EM..you can pass your documents for Tourist Visa to VIA Center..VIA Center: Unit 1003, 10/F One Corporate Plaza : 845 Antonio Arnaiz Ave (Pasay Rd) Makati City: Ito ang address sa pagkaalam ko…be sure if you pass you paid already your manager’s check thru a bank.

yes you will received a notification from the embassy kung natanggap na nila ang doc’s u or u can call the via center… then air 21 will notify u na e send na sau ang doc’s na galing embassy kung tapos na..

EM, yes you can pay first manager’ ka mag lodge…dapat may account ka sa bangko..kung saan bangko ka may account dun ka narin kukuha ng manager’s check na ibabayad sa embassy…

If you are applying for a 3-month visa, you are not required to undergo a medical examination. I can’t remember if there are health-related questions in the visa application form.

Okay thanks again Glenda,so sasabihin ko lang sa bangko na magbabayad ako ng 5,300 pesos na visa fee for tourist sa Australia and courier 700 for provinces kase dito ako sa pampangga.Alam na ba ng bangko kagad un? So mag kahiwalay ang bayad ko dito noh?mag kaibang check..ganun ba? sorry kung matanong ako wala kase ako alam pagdating sa ganitong mga transaction..
EM, punta ka nalang sa bank then ask about manager’s check , e assist ka naman nila… may papers dyan to fill in kung saan e forward dapat complete address ng Australian Embassy.Ang sa courier walang checke i think sa via center yan eh ang bayad!!! kasi di ako dumaan dyan.. i go for a consultant.

EM, they will guide u naman in filling the form … It’s like a request order form to be filled up… Yes! to be address on Australian embassy sa may level 23, tower 2 RCBC plaza Ayala Ave… but u need to pass your documents sa Via Center.
