[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

eto na naman ako…huhuhu dumating na po yung docs ko galing sa auntie ko…
I have the statutory declaration of both my aunt and uncle, as well as their bank statements, and copy of their passport. I also have the letter coming from my aunt’s hospital as she will be undergoing for an operation by March.
While the documents that I have are the NSO certified birth certificates of my Mum and my sister who will provide me the funds while I am there. I also have my sister and my mum’s bank account statement as well mine, passports, Certificate of employment, and the certified copies of my family’s assets.
I am applying for 3 months T.V, and what other things should I bring?…Do I have to notarized all other documents that I have?
And I am still a student, however in my Uncle and Aunt’s statutory declaration, the course description they have written is Hotel and Restaurant Management while I am only taking associate course for hospitality and restaurant services, would that bring me problems in applying like, will they consider it as a discrepancy?…
And also, I will personally go there, so I don’t know what to do or expect, do i need to call the embassy and set for an appointment?…
Sana masagot nyo po ito, cause I am the only one who’s working on the visa, and it is my first time going there…So I am really anxious of what will happen. The application seems complicated compared to Japan…

ako nga the only problem i am worrying right now is from the letter of my school and the statutory declaration made by my uncle and auntie..kasi hospitality and restaurant services ang course ko pero nakalagay sa stat. dec nila hotel and restaurant management…hininhintay ko pa sila miss nina na magcomment para maenlightened ako and what should i do…lapit na kasi operation ng tita ko..i really need to get there…

Don is right, manager’s check talaga dapat ang payment para sa visa application fee
Don: If you are submitting original documents (authenticated NSO, original transcript from the school, etc.) no need to have it notarized. Just make copies.
I think the small discrepancy in your course would be okay.

by wednesday next week ko na ilodge, nag email nga tita ko kasi after february iaadmit na sya sa hospital…kulang na lang ako ng NBI clearance and international driver’s license for I will be a driver for my aunt…hehehe

Here is a question with a twist. My wife and I got married in Philippines last June, we have our marriage cert but we haven’t applied for the permanent visa yet because of cost (in pesos is incredibly expensive).
We are planning to come back in March. Can we get a temporary tourist visa for 3 months and apply for her partner visa there? Seeing as we are already married for a while I suspect we should be OK.

I lodged my papers personally last feb 1 ng hapon. i’m kinda worried until now wala parin akong narecieve confirmation sa embassy…possible kaya na na delay kasi maraming nag apply ngayon hoping na maka visit sa australia ngayong summer? I am hoping to be in Adelaide po this 27th to celebrate our first year anniversary. Just a question lang…is there any specific details they ask when you call for pick up? Just trying to see the cost difference from having it picked up and doing the lodging at the VIA center?

As much as i want to answer kaso i personally lodged mine kanina…tiga san ka ba?…kasi kung malapit ka lang din naman sa area you might want to visit VIA Centre na lang…
mabilis lang din naman kasi 7 windows ang nakalaan for the australian visa applicants…

I included my NSO birth cert together with my Mum and sister pero di na talaga tinanggap…So i need to contact NSO to request for another copy and from there, NSO will directly send the copies to the embassy…

I didn’t submit any bank statements since I don’t have much naman in my account 😛 but if you have, then go and include it in your docus. The amount depends sa duration ng stay mo (100K-200K is good enough for a month or two stay)- if you will go there by yourself lang, but what I’ve heard and read from other threads that having a huge amount doesn’t not really assure u of getting a visa granted, though it helps- it still depends on ur other docus and ur reason of coming back here in Ph, like jobs, properties etc. If you are sponsored, or someone is inviting you to come like your bf etc… then its much easier. Mine kasi and most of us here were invited by our bfs, and luckily got our visas granted. Wish you luck! 🙂
in my case, i just submitted a photocopied pages of my passbook, yung sa mom and sister ko din since they will be supporting me financially while i am there, aside from that nandun din kasi uncle and auntie ko so sponsored trip ang sa akin…mas madali yata talaga pag may invitation…
di naman need maraming pera sa banko…though it may secure you of a visa kung may laman talaga yung bank account mo…
overall, nasa completeness of docs na sinumbit mo ibebase kung bibigyan ka ng visa…
kaya ako i submitted a health certificate, brgy., police and nbi clearance, and yung mga family assets namin and a letter from my school just to make sure na di sila magduda sa intention ko…after all genuine naman ang reason ko sa pagpunta…

Pinapick-up ko lang ang mga docs ko last January 12…6 months TV ang aking application, kaya umabot ng 1 month kasi inantay ko pa ang e-mail ng embassy para sa medical ko. Galing na ako ng AUS, dumating ako nung January 6, 3 months ang visa ko that time. Then after 1 week dito sa pinas apply uli ako ng 6 months TV, thanks god at grant visa naman. So good luck sa iyo, ha? Have faith and keep positive.

di ako naka receive confirmation pero tumawag ako embassy.. noong feb 2 daw nila na recieve documents ko. so ika 10th working day ngayon ng papers ko.. kinakabahan na ako. feeling ko this friday or sa lunes ako makakatanggap ng message from embassy sana nga,.. fresh graduate ako noong march 2011 lang..
and documents na sinubmit ko, bank certification, brgy, police and nbi clearance, managers cheque, letter of intent, passport, yung reciept ng NSO na birth na inorder ko online, cedula, mga pictures namin ng Boyfriend ko kasama din sa ibang photos family ko, mga hand written mails namin pina photocopy ko din, western union recipts, sa partner ko naman, invitation letter, statutatory declaration, payslips nya, bank statement nya. photocopy ng passport nya na nakapunta na sya ng pinas. yun ang mga sinubmit ko.. kinakabahan na ba kayo? hopefuly sana makapasa tayong lahat. sa 25 ang plan ko alis sana. kasi sa 27 ang anniversary namin… 😉

Kahit saang air lines, basta hindi ika directly nag purchase ng ticket mo, they will need a copy of the credit card used. So tell your bf na iscan nya yung credit card nya, both back and the front with his signature on it. Just try to be careful with this, keep it safe with you. Get a brief letter from him, telling that he is the one who purchased the ticket and indicate your relationship with his signature on it again. Just to avoid getting into trouble, much as well be safe na lang 🙂
minsan din naman kasi super higpit ng immigration ng pinas na wala na sa lugar…i have experienced it several times,..lalo na yung sa DMIA- Clark..napakarude ng immigration officer…it was a living hell for me and my family…

You have to be careful, kasi they’re very strict about the things that travelers bring into their country. Minsan kahit within Australia, hinaharang ang mga fruits (may mga sniffer dogs that go through the bags on the conveyor belt).

Mhay, everything is already here at Nine’s post and try to read the previous comments so you can get some tips/ideas 🙂 You don’t have to worry, it’s not as hard as ou think basta faith and you have all the documents needed. But just to give you a quick info lang about some of your concerns;
No work- When I applied, dineclare ko rin na wala kong work since pahirapan samin makakuha ng COE… so its not a big issue, specially invited ka naman ni bf mo like in my case.
Ausphil Consultancy- If you have the papers, much as well do it yourself na lang, sayang ang pera, pang shopping mo na lang:) But if you have the money and medyo complicated ang papers mo which I doubt since Tourist visa lang naman kukunin mo pa lang… then by all means go with them.
Bf inviting you- It’s an advantage kasi that means you won’t spending money during your visit sa OZ. Try to get most of his papers. Invitation letter from him saying that he is the one who’s going to accommodate everything, from air fare, lodging and your daily expenses for the whole duration of your short holiday. Get a copy of his passport, salary or tax or bank statement, electric bill and other documents proving that he is capable of supporting you. If he sends you money thru Western or whatever, try to get a copy of this as well as a proof of your connection/relationship… and include your skype/ym/email conversation too.
Your documents- Hmnnn… I didn’t submit any bank statement or COE. Yung application form lang actually, and the NSO birth certificate. Sa bf ko na halos lahat ng docus:)

Magandang araw po sa lahat, ngaun ko lng nakita ang page na to at sana mabigyan nyo po ako na idea sa mga tanong ko kasi po first time ko lng to at wala po akong ka idea idea. una po, Kung mag apply ng working holiday visa, ano po mga requirements at magkano po kaya babayaran ko ko? at ilang araw po ma process at makakuha. Me nag hired po kasi sakin na employer as nanny to australia and he ask me kung panu makakuha at gaano katagal ma process at makakuha?? Pwede rin po kaya na e sponsor ako ng aking employer? ano poba pinakamagandang gawin po para makakuha ako agad non? salamat po at sana masagot nyo po ako.

yep, it’s better to declare yung mga unsure ka na items. katulad ko non, it was my first time, i brought medicines with me (medicol,bioflu,hormonal pills, bag made of rattan)kase nabasa ko sa list ng Aqis na di nga raw pwede magdala ng items made of woods, plants, at kung anu anu pa..pro nagdala p rin ako. but i declared it. so nung makita ng officer na first time ko at may dineclare nga ako, dinala ako sa quarantine area and checked all my stuff- wallet, hand carry bag, luggage and yung bag at medicines nga. so far, pumasa nmn ako yun nga lang they were 4-5 officers na tanong ng tanong saken, purpose of travel, first time ko raw ba, sino yung pupuntahan ko.. bla bla bla..
then on my way back home last feb 8, yung nakatabi ko sa PAL na matanda who’s been in and out of OZ for like 7 years na, nakachikahan ko siya at nagdadala pa nga raw siya na tinapa, smoked fish, adobong crabs(dry) pero dinedeclare nmn daw nia, so far nakakalusot nmn daw siya..

mura lang service fee nila, pag tourist visa, 5k. 2 gives. first half upon submitting your documents to them, then yung half full pag approve na.
actually compared to other consultancy, mura sila. kase when i was in OZ, i met some Filipino and they went through a consultancy, paid 40k service fee for the tourist visa pero denied.
ayun. pero it is still better pa rin to go direct sa VIA especially if you know you have all the documents. pero kung hindi ka confident, ok lang din mag agent like i did before.

Just read all the comments here and i think makakatulong sayo yun.dont worry makakakuha ka din think possitive lang lage and pray lang makakasama mo din sya hehe..ako my plan pa lang kumuha ng tourist visa nireready ko pa kasi mga needs requirments na ipapasa ko. Can’t remember how many days exactly, but I’m pretty sure hindi lumampas ng one month.
Yup miss nina, nagbigay naman sila ng reason…like di daw sapat yung reason ko na I want to be with my closest Aunt sa family ko lalo na sa time na ooperahan sya, I stated na wala silang anak ng Uncle ko to take care of her during the recuperation period, I even said that once my Aunt is ok with it I could go on and explore Melbourne and even visit their famous theme parks since I am a roller coaster enthusiast…hahaha..pero sabi nga nila di daw sapat na reason yun…and at the same time sinabi na kulang pa rin documents ko but I have fulfilled all the necessary documents required for the tourist visa application so I dunno why they have stated that…I mean, I have sufficient funds naman sa bank and my mum and sister would also provide me financial support just to make sure I won’t encounter any financial problems…as well as nandun nga yung Auntie ko…
I am pretty devastated upon seeing the letter, since it is my first visa application rejection…sa tinatagal tagal ko na lumalabas ng bansa dahil pangarap ko mapuno ng tatak passport ko, pero di pa rin pala yun enough…hahaha wawa ko naman bigla…
so sa ngayon I am having doubts whether I should reapply or just finish this semester and attend the graduation ceremony…magulo pa isip ko ngayon to be honest…I just want to go outside the country…coz I think I really need a time off pero di nga pinalad…so I am planning din to go back to Japan instead…haaai…kakalungkot talaga.
Di kaya ang tingin nila sa pag punta dun at pag alaga sa aunt mo eh parang caregiver na, which is technically parang employment? Alam mo naman, iba ang culture nila sa atin. Maybe ang angle mo next time is tourist na talaga, yung tipong mas matimbang ang pagiging tourist mo dun kesa sa pag punta at pag alaga sa aunt mo.

I have applied for a 3 month tourist visa since I really need to go back para sa OJT ko, and my intentions are genuine kaso sa dating ng letter na yun from immigration, di sila convinced and super duda sila when in fact the only reason I am going there is my Aunt…I have no plans of residing there sa totoo lang, kaya nakakalungkot na ganun yung tingin nila sa application ko…
I guess pag nag insist Auntie ko na mag reapply, I’ll do it pero nagkakaroon na rin kasi ako ng doubts…I might as well go back na lang sa Japan…sa ngayon, worried lang ako sa Aunt ko with her upcoming operation…wala talaga mag aalaga sa kanya dahil may work ang husband nya…

Hi, hingi lang ako ng advice regarding sa paglodge ng tourist visa for australia. 3 months yung balak kong iapply. My bf is in Perth WA, naipetition sya together with his family nung father nya who’s working in Perth last August 2011. He wants me to go there this summer probably on May. Kaso hindi pa sya permanent resident sa Australia, even his father. Magaapply palang sila doon. Do i still need to ask him for an invitation letter? Accomodation ang ipprovide nila. With regards to my financial needs, nagpanotaryo ako ng affidavit of support ng mom ko regarding sa expenses ko sa trip. Then I included the remittances my mother gets. Walang bank statements, just remittances from his husband in Japan. Ano pa po ba sa tingin nyo yung kelangan koong documents? And do you think those documents I have with me would be enough for me to be granted an australian tourist visa? Please I need your help, I’m planning to lodge an application on March.

ako nmn, ndi nmn super dami yung pinasa kong docs non.. wala nga ako bank statement na pinasa.. then even when i was still working before, i declared unemployed kase di nmn ako pinayagan ng company na magleave.. wala nga rin passport si bf na bngay saken kase di nia mahanap passport nia, yung extract copy (not even a certified original copy) ng birth cert nia.. and got my visa granted.. 🙂
scary talaga.. sa akin ung submit ko passport, wala ako NBI clearance, police clearance lang, mayors permit and DTI permit sa bussiness ko, ITR, bank certificate and bank statement, and proff of assets. sponsor ko din ung cousin ko dun.. nakaka stress talaga sobrang slow ung day pag may hinihintay..

kami din, we got refused me, my husband and my daughter, we lodged our application last jan.16, then we received it jan.30, nakakanginig nga ng laman habang binabasa yung word na “REFUSED”…but then gusto talaga namin umalis, kaya nag re-apply kami last feb.16…I pray that this time it will be granted na, my mom who is in australia, helped me prepare the requirements..nag dagdag sila ng brother ko ng letter stating that sila ang bahal sa amin for our entire stay, they also sent me bank statements nilang dalawa and etc…

Congrats at visa approved ka for 6 months mo. nag-apply din ako ng visa for tourist 6 months last february 13. nakarating na ako sa perth australia for5 3 months last august up to nov..then i applied 6 months last feb 13, ask ko lang sana di ba may medical siya for 6 months 11 days na yun papers ko til now NO email for my medical…ilang days ka ba ini-mailed ng immig for medical 2 weeks na kasi yun akin. sana reply ka 🙂

Lodged application last 2/27. it will be a long wait! but im not expecting much, because i have to admit high risk na applicant ako. but i pray that they’ll give me a chance to travel. praying and praying lang…

Neighbor lang pala tayo sa Perth, Kwinana ako before ng Rockingham..Yong sa akin kasi I received my e-mail from my case officer January 27…January 30 nagmedical ako, tapos ang Immigration Panel Doctor na ang nagforward ng medical ko sa embassy. First week ng February tinawagan ako ng embassy at tinanong kung nagpamedical na ako at kung may test pa ba na hiningi ang Panel Doctor. Sabi ko tapos na at walang ibang kinuha na test sa akin, maliban sa chest x-ray
