[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

Chest X-ray raba ang chenek nila or ano pa?? Im just confused..Hehehe!!! Ilang days or months ka naghintay sa application mo before they granted??? Kasi yong sa akin,48R TV for 6 months din kaso tuawag ang embassy na kulang daw nang 48R Form para sa anak ko..Kasama ko kasi mag bakasyon yong anak ko at akala ko na sa 48R Form na application ko lang ilagay yong name nya kaso tinawagan ako sa embassy na kailangan akong mag submit ng 48R para sa anak ko,eh ang sabi ko sa operator na nag-inform sa akin his a 4 year old and doesn’t know how to write and cannot understand that form at enikspek ko na sa aking 48R kulang sya isama,eh hindi pala so by friday matanggap ko yong documents ng anak ko kasi ibabalik nila kaya worried ako kasi lahat ng true copy andon na lahat sa application ko..
Does i need to present another Certfied Copy from my sponsored or yong Photocopy nalang ang e susubmit ko??

I applied 48R for 6 months and the embassy ring me this morning that they recieved my documents but one thing lucking on my papers!! I never expect that my son who will be my company to travel,his 4 years old and he need also a separate 48R so the embassy inform me that they will return my son’s documents tomorrow but mine will be remain there..I wasn’t expect that a 4 year old must fill up another 48R form because he is minor and he doesn’t understand and doesn’t know how to write then!! So,the officer told me to send another 48R form for him so hopefully my son’s documents will not be complicated or hassle because all the original documents from my sponsored was submitted already and im pretty sure they will not return it unless my 48R have result after!!!
Is anybody know and can advice what should i need to present again because my son’s application will be separated now and all my original documents was attached on my papers too!!! Please i need your help!!! I was thinking to send all the photo copies from my sponsored documents and thats the only way i can attached to his papers as will…

Hello Nina! I applied for 6 months TV to australia but they just grant me for 3 months with NO FURTHER STAY condition. Does possible to get married with my australian partner? It is possible to get married to your partner while you’re in Australia, but you would still need to follow the validity of your visa. If the visa they granted you is a multiple entry visa, you can exit Australia before the 3 months is up then enter again and stay for another 3 months. However, if you were only given a single entry visa, you would need to come back to the Philippines and apply for a new visa.

Hi Nej, sorry, I won’t be able to help you with the fiancee/spouse visa since I did not apply for that. I also cannot answer your questions regarding the statutory declaration because I did not use it when I applied for my visa.
Just bear this in mind: it’s better to be honest in your application, whether the embassy is strict or not about authenticating and verifying your information.

Gusto kase ng Bf ko na bumalik ako dun. Same requirements, but you may have to do a medical exam.
Visa applications can only be lodged from your home country. Filipinos and Philippine passport holders are not eligible for a working holiday visa.

Hi Em, mas mahirap ang migrant visa, and I’m not sure kung allowed na may sponsor ka for that. Kung balak mo talagang mag work dun, hindi talaga puede sayo yung tourist visa.

The statutory declaration is an oath or an affidavit wherein your sponsor can state important details of your relationship, your visit, his job, home address and how is he going to support you while you are in Australia and most of all he has to state that you are indeed returning to your home country after your visit. Your sponsor can get a form from the Justice of Peace or Post Office. After filling out the form with all the details I mentioned above, he needs to sign it and have it signed by the Justice of Peace or any professional person he knows, like a doctor, lawyer, teacher, dentist, a government employee, clerk of court etc.

Gwen, are you going to have them pick up your documents or are you going to submit it through the VIA office? When I applied, I had it picked up (that was the only option then). When I called to schedule for a pick up, I was given instructions about my documents: make copies of all the original documents and put it inside a brown envelope. I do not know if that’s still the procedure (I applied way back in 2006). Better to call the VIA office and ask them.

Based again on what I’ve read in the discussion here, when you apply for an authenticated copy to be used for your visa application, it will be delivered straight to the embassy or VIA. Read back on the other comments nalang, kasi hindi ganyan yung process nung nag apply ako in 2006.

newbie here diko alam kanino dapat magreply pero share ko lang po, na and VIA ay di tumatanggap ng AUTHENTICATED hard copy ng identity nyo na galing sa NSO. Ang gusto po nila ay ipadeliver nyo from NSO yung docs nyo gaya ng birth certificate, marriage etc .. basta yung mga docs po natin na nanggagaling sa NSO. pag tumawag kau sa hotline nila or order sa website then pay sila na po bahala magdeliver nun straight sa VIA. one reason po kung bakit ganito sistema ay para maiwasan ang pagsusubmit:) ng fake NSO docs. sana po makatulong, at sana din magkarun na ako ng visa 🙁

according to my understanding, sa #10 question, nilagay ko identity card number ko issued by our government like if you have PRC id, BIR id (tin number) yun nilagay ko..tapos sa #11 of which countries are you a citizen, nilagay ko Philippines..tanong mo din sa iba, i hope im not getting wrong..

mIss Gwen, ask ko lang po. kakabalik ko lang po ng pilipinas nung january 14. nagstay ako sa Australia for 1 month though ang na grant na visa sakin is 3 months tourist visa. Gusto kase ng Bf ko na bumalik ako dun. Kaso this time gusto ko mag stay ng masmatagal to study a short term course. ano po ba ang requirements to get 12 months tourist visa. is it the same sa requirements sa 3 months tourist visa?..if nakapagaral ako doon sa Australia and nakakuha ng work pwede po ba ako mag process ng another visa while I am in Australia. or I need to go back here to process working visa..

We’ve started it last September I guess… hehe, kasi naman ginawa na naming tong forum. We were 1st timers kc during those times. It was indeed great to have this post kc it helps us a lot- and we made some friends. Almost all of us who dropped by here to ur blog, were able to get a tourist visa granted. Nakauwi na nga kami eh 🙂 hopefully, may 2nd or more time pa to visit the land down under, and eventually stay there 😉

It’s not required when applying for a visa, but it is recommended that you get one when traveling there as the cost of healthcare in Australia can be quite expensive.

For travel insurance, you can buy from travel agencies or directly from Blue Cross (http://bluecross.com.ph/)
As for the international driver’s licence, ask your friendly LTO personnel.

been to australia last october and just got back last january 6, and with regards to philippine driver’s license it is not valid there. i am now waiting for my next visa to arrive and applied also my international driver’s license so i can drive around western australia.
salamat po sa pagsagot so i won’t be needing an international license na pala…uhmmmm..but how about the medical report/cert as well as the insurance?..am i really required to undergo such po ba?…

Medical exam is only needed if you are applying for a 6-month or 12-month tourist visa.
As I said in my previous comment, you can just buy travel insurance from Blue Cross or your from your travel agent.

Actually its necessary for u to pass the birth certifcate from NSO if you only applied for 3mos tourist visa, so it won’t affect your application. I lodged mine last Sept last year (just recently back home). The usual process is to call NSO and have them deliver your birth cert. directly to Aus embassy, which what I did. When I went at the VIA to lodge it, they checked all my papers, and when I handed them my receipt Ive got when I paid the birth cert. they told me that they don’t need it, unless ur applying for a 6mos TV, however, since I paid for it na naman, pinasa ko na. So don’t be nervous. It’s one’s options if they want to submit their NSO for a 3mos TV, its just like an additional docus but not the major docus needed.
I mean, ‘NOT’ necessary.. sorry typho error 🙂

Had my share of unfortunate experience with the IO but just a return ticket will do (Phil-Aust-Phil).They’ll also scrutinize (interview) you and make sure you’ve some of the supporting docs with you (i.e. fiance passport and letter of invitations). But when you get to Aust., there’ll be no problem at all as long as you’ve the visa, their IO will stamp your passport and let you through without any fuss at all, at least from my experience. Hope this helps..
