[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

basahin mo lng ng mabuti ung forms mo pati ung austalian embassy web and via center web… pati na rin yung previous post dito..

You have to wait an advise from the embassy before you can have your medical check. The embassy will communicate with you after you lodge your application. They will send you an email on how to go about the medical check.
I applied for a 6 month tourist visa. My case officer advised me through email to undergo chest x-ray. You will be advised to go to clinic authorized by Australian Embassy. The list of panel of doctors can be found in http://www.immi.gov.au
The cost of chest x-ray is Php1,500.

EM.. di ako dumaan sa via center all i now ang tracking ay galing yan sa call center pag tumanwag ka doon at sila ang magbibigay… anyone can help EM what is tracking number?
Tracking number can be found from the acknowledgement receipt issued by the VIA center. It is actually a Record Number. You can use this when you want to know the status of your visa application. At the VIA website there is an icon at the left side which you can click. A pop up will appear and you will be asked to provide your Record number and your birthday.
kinakabahan nako sa magiging result ng application ko though 2 days palang nakakaraan nung ng pass ako. Pwede ba may mag share sa inyo kugn sino ung na refuse ang visa and ano ang reason?.kinakabahan talaga ako.

Ask ko lng po,kc I’m almost ready to lodge my application for tourist visa,pag tumawag po ba ako for appointment sa pick up ng documents ko,,
1. itatanong ba nila if back in forth ang gusto ko bayaran sa for pick up,,or ako talaga magsabi na ganun yung gusto ko??
2. yung pgalalagyan po ba ng mga document yung brown envelope lang?Long or short?
3. yung manager’s cheque po ba,,pwede ba ako mgkuha in advance,hindi po ba yun mag expire,lets say next week pa ako mg lodge?
4.pag mgpapaappointment ako ba mamili ng oras what time ko gusto ipapick up ang docs.?duty po kc ako sa Hospital,5pm pa matapos,,ask lng po ako advance,para makaprepare ako ng maayos..

1. You can book the courier to pick up and deliver back to your place the docs.
2. Long brown envelope ang kailangan ng VIA center.
3. Walang problema kung kukuha ka ng manager’s check in advance.
4. Mas mabuti siguro kung may taong mag rereceive ng docs mo. You just have to make a letter of authorization para dun sa tatanggap ng docs mo.

Hello Felicity! Sa 6 months tourist no,did the embassy request you for medical test? Kasi 6 months din yong aaplayan ko together with my son but its my second time now kong papalarin..At saka kong mag lodge tayo via Courier,do i need to get Managers Check for the payments of my return documents or yong 320 pesos lang ang ating babayaran from air21? tracking# is the Record# sa receipt na binigay nila. Kinakabahan din ako cos I lodged my application Nov 15 till now I still dont know if its approved or denied. As soon as meron ng decision from the Case Officer makakareceive ba ako ng email sa kanila?
Ba ang tagal naman Anne?ilang araw na yan? hindi ka ba nag follow up?tumawag ka na ba?.Un din ang gusto kong malaman kung mag sesend sila ng email if approve man or denied..Ako kaya?nag lodge ako ng application nung November 28..kung sakali balak kong umalis December 18.baka ma-delay bago ko malaman ung result kagaya nung sayo..kinakabahan na din ako..

No worries, eM. Ako din, I’m still waiting for my visa. Pang 23 days na ngayon, 6 months kasi yung request kong stay. Nakaka-stress na minsan 🙂 Pero we have to be positive na ma-ga-grant yung visa natin. Peak month kasi ngayon kaya it takes time, I think.

ung ni-lodge kong application for 6 weeks visa lang. nag lodge ako nung Novemebr 28 so naghihintay ako ng result ngayon. nakaka stress din syempre iniisip ko kung maaaprove ba or not.lalo na first time kong kumuha ng visa.

With regard to your questions,
1. Yes, the embassy contacted me through email. My case officer sent me a notice that I have to undergo an x-ray. Usually x-ray lang ang required for a 6 month visa. Ida-download mo yung notice para yung ang i-present mo sa clinic.
2. Yung manager’s check ay para sa Australian Embassy lang na bayad mo sa visa. I think magbabayad ka ng cash sa Air 21 para sa pick- up at delivery ng docs mo. Pero kung nandito ka sa Metro Manila, you could go directly to VIA center to lodge your applications. 600 pesos ang binayaran ko para sa courier nung nag-lodge ako ng application sa VIA center. Wala akong idea kung magkano outside Metro Manila.
3. Kung bayad na yung visa ng anak mo dalhin mo na lang yung proof of payment pag nag-lodge ka ng application mo.

Yung page na intentionally blank should be included and it should be left blank. Kung nasulatan ni bf mo yung page na yun mag-print ka ulit nung page na yun at isama mo sa 48R form kasi hahanapin yun ng case officer sa VIA center. Yung letter of invitation at ibang documents ang magkakasama. Ilagay mo lahat sa brown envelope. Pa-photocopy mo na rin passport at ibang docs kasi mahal magpa-photo copy sa VIA center 5 pesos each page 🙂

Hintayin mo na lang yung NBI kasi hahanapin din sayo ng case officer pag nag lodge ka ng application. Isa sa mga requirements ang NBI clearance. Kukunin kasi ng embassy at immigration yung mga details like your fingerprints at facial image. Ilalagay nila ito sa files nila at gagamitin ito for reference. Kung mababasa mo dun sa page 14 ng 48R form may nakasaad dun sa declaration and consent.
Mas mabuti na na complete ang documents kasi pag hindi, yun ang magiging dahilan ng pagka-delay ng application mo. Remember may kasabihan na “Patience is a virtue.”
Kaka-check ko lang ng status ng application ko through VIA center tracking, still processing pa rin daw ang papers ko. Cheer up, Gwen, everything will turn out fine.

you need to purchase manager’s check kung saan banko ba may account. Kuha ka ng manager’s check before ka mag lodge ng application. hindi sila tumatanggap ng cash sa embassy. sabihin mo mag purchase ka ng manager’s check made payable to the Australian embassy. ung bayad sa handling fee sa embassy na babayaran un.

1. Ang manager’s check ay mabibili sa bangko kung saan ka merong account o kahit saang bangko na nag i-issue ng manager’s check. Bibili ka at sabihin mo na ang halaga ay 5,300 pesos at payable sa Australian Embassy. Itong manager’s check ay pambayad mo sa Visa application mo dahil hindi tumatanggap ang VIA center ng cash.
2. Pag nag lodge ka na ng application, sasabihin sayo ng case officer dun sa VIA center na kailangan mo ulit magbayad pero para sa Handling fee. Ito na yung bayad sa pagdeliver ng documents mo sa address na ibibigay mo sa kanila. 600 pesos cash ang amount. Dalawa ang receipt na ii-issue sayo, isa para sa bayad mo sa visa at isa para dun sa courier.

I received an SMS today from the embassy and Air 21 that my passport and documents were dispatched for delivery.
After 24 working days, my visa was granted December 1 and delivered today by Air 21.

Me,im sad because suppose to be before Christmas were already in Melbourne but til now im still on the process for my papers and the back up doocuments was very delayed due to a busy post..And i was worried also because i have a Goiter and i am afraid that if the medical examination can detect..Does is it ok even if i have a goiter! Chest X-ray can detect if what’s wrong on my neck? Because i’ve known this a while ago and i am confused if thats the only reason they will refuse my papers after all this…

walang record number s receipt provided. i personally went to the via centre in makati pero s receipt it says, piasi inc, tas my name, or#, 1 handling fee-lodgment pay na 600, tas s end, this serves as your official receipt, for comments and suggestions, please email inquiry@piasi.com.
could it also be because yung VAC ko was paid in oz? i checked the receipt sent to me via email pero receipt number at BP number lang din ang nandoon.

ung record number or tracking number ko is all number walang letters, ewan ko lang sa ibang applicant kung my letters ung record number nila. better mag call ka sa embassy and ask about it..explain them na hindi mo alam kung san makikita ung tracking number sa receipt mo.

5. Invitation letter from my sponsor
6. Current Income Tax Return of my sponsor
7. 6 months Payslip of my sponsor
8. Utility bills of my sponsor
9. Phone bills of my sponsor
10.Cards sent to me by my sponsor like Christmas cards, birthday cards
11.emails, chats
12. NBI clearance
13. Birth certificate
14. Certificate of employment, Approved leave of absence, payslip, current Income Tax Return and bank certificate
13. photos of me and my sponsor when he came over last year.
14. Photocopy of my sponsor’s passport
I submitted these documents in a long brown envelope, together with the payment for visa (which is in Manager’s check) and handling fee.

isubmit mo lahat from page 1 to 14, sila naman ang mag tatanggal ng ibang page dun.ganun din ung ginawa sa form ko. ung about sa address naman mas maganda sa bahay ung address, I suggest na sabihin mo sa kasama mo sa bahay na kahit isa may maiwan sa bahay in case dumating ung doc mo.. dapat lagi mayn tao kahit isa lang. kung sa iskul kase, what if dumating docs mo ng saturday?

But unfortunately all my documents are still in my maiden name like passport, IDs etc. So i dont know what to do. AM i suppose to use my maiden name or married name sa application. Im thinking of using an agency pero after reading all your posts baka puwedeng ako na lang ang mag lodge ng application ko without the use of an agency. Please help me. if u think on going through a consultancy, i highly recommend Ausphil.. kase compared to other consultancy, mura lng service fee nila. 5k. then 2 gives pa. downpayment upon submitting your docs, then the full payment pag granted na visa mo, and i assure you na maga-grant. kase me and my friends na nkilala ko dito sa JW who went through ausphil ay granted.. 🙂
but if you are that confident enough about your docs and all, i think better pa rin to lodge directly by yourself.. ako kase first time ko non and i wasnt that confident and i didnt have much time so i went through a consultancy.

Kung 6 months ka lang mag-stay sa OZ, chest x-ray lang ang kailangan. Chest lang ang kukunan nila ng x-ray kaya do not worry. Pag may notice ka na from the embassy saka ka pa lang magpa-pa chest x-ray. Dun sa clinic may form ka na sasagutan about your medical history. Wala akong matandaan na tanong about sa goiter. Magkakaproblema ka lang kung may history ka ng Tuberculosis (TB). Kasi yung kasabay ko di nakapasa, nakitaan siya ng scar sa lungs. May history kasi siya ng TB five years ago. Pag ganun ang case kailangan magpa certify pa sa isang specialist na wala na nga yung TB. Ang sakit sa goiter ay di naman nakakahawa.
hi also also lodged my 676 tourist visa application (6 months) last nov 4 (and received by embassy on nov 8). i am still waiting for the results. wow ang tagal. i received my medical request on nov 22 and the day after did my medical and availed of the e-health. how long will you usually get visa decision after you submit your medical results? any experience? thanks

the usual as required by the embassy… bank statement, NBI clearance, authenticated copies of birth cert, passport, i also attached other pertinent documents that would justify my stay in aus (my invitation letter and statutory declaration from a person who will support me there, and her financial proof)…

hi anne: my partner actually. Im going to OZ kasi dun ipapanganak baby namin. proof na buntis sya (medical records etc), sponsorphip letter, statutory dec, employment cert, payslip, these are all stamped by the justice of peace.

I lodged my application October 25th. I was advise to have an x-ray after 14 days, then my visa was granted December 1st. It took more than a month.
The embassy will never disclose to you the result of your x-ray. I reckon this only happens when they see a scar on your lungs, that is if you have a history of tuberculosis. If they see something they will send you an SMS to report again to the clinic to verify it.
Yes, I received an SMS from embassy that my passport and documents were dispatched to the courier for delivery. Air21 did the same too.
I’m sure your visa will be granted as well.

It’s my first time to apply for a tourist visa to Oz. I requested for a 6 month stay and it was granted. I’m flying to Perth this month.
As to your query on how long should you apply for a visa again. The policy is that you have to return to your home country when your visa expires and apply again if there is a need to go back to Australia.

Mnl-Syd kase destination ko, so para makalabas ka ng airport, dadaan ng immig diba, then sa plane, prior na magland, may bnbgay na forms to fill up and present to immig.. so may part dun to declare item na dinala mo..
so ako, since may dala ako na gamot (pills, biogesic, neozep,bioflu) dineclare ko, then since diba mashado sila mahigpit sa mga items na dadalhin, and i wasnt sure kung allowed yung bag na ratan (pasalubong ko sa mum ni bf) dineclare ko rin..
Deym! nung nasa Sydney na ako, nakita ng officer yung form ko, dinala agad ako sa quarantine area and guess what? they were like 4-5 officers who inspected my luggage and all.. at ang tagal ko dun.. pati wallet ko kinalkal.. tapos knabahan ako kase may dala ako pointed metal objects (manicure set) at diko dineclare.. buti di ako nahuli.. lol..
andami tanong.. as in kakabahan ka dun, yung feeling na pwede ka pabalikin sa pinas.. diko na nga alam kung sino sa knila uunahin ko sagutin non.. lol..
thank God, after 15-20minutes ok na.. yun nga lang, sobrang gulo na ng maleta ko.. kainis..

Last September 23, 2011, I’ve submitted my prospective marriage (fiance) visa application here in the VIA Centre Cebu. The following Monday, September 26, 2011, I’ve received a confirmation from the embassy that they’ve received my documents. Just yesterday, December 9, 2011, I’ve received an e-mail from the Australian Embassy in Manila informing me of my visa grant. It took approximately 11 weeks for them to process and approve my application.
I’m not sure if it works the same as your spousal visa application but I think that it would help if you’ll submit a complete application. Don’t wait for the case officer to tell you to submit this and that documents. Include all the stuff needed in one go.. in that way, they won’t have to contact you for additional documents to be submitted and they can decide on your application right away.
What I did on my end is I’ve gathered and submitted everything listed on the checklist:
e.g.
*passports (my actual passport not just the photocopy)
*statutory declarations of 2 australian citizens (form 888)
*history of our relationship (one from me and the other from my partner)
*NBI clearance
*single status certificate (for my partner) and my CENOMAR
*employment certificates
*australian citizenship grant certificate of my partner
*evidences of our relationship like pictures together, itineraries, boarding passes and screenshots of our skype sessions
*birth certificate
* including the receipt of my medical check-up, ’cause I did mine before I’ve submitted my actual application (this, however is not applicable in your case since the embassy has a new policy for health checks. you need to wait for them to contact you and give you a “health ID number” before you can proceed with the health check.)
these are just some of the documents I’ve handed in together with my application. What you need to do now is to wait for your officer to give you the go signal so you can have your medical. You can also check this website if you want to know what are the applications being process by the embassy on a specific timeline:

this website updates weekly or every 10 days (depends). so you need to check on it regularly. Although this site is not as accurate with regard to the actual applications being processed, but this is the closest thing you have into knowing when to expect an e-mail from an officer.

kahit ung mga lumang western union copy pweded na pati bago pa phot copy mo na. dito nako sa Adelaide sensya na hindi ako na reply kagad kase busy mamasyal. ung statutory makukuha mo ung form na yan sa website ng Australian embassy nakalimutan ko na kung anong pangalan ng form type mo nalng statutory declaration and then sabihin mo sa sponsor mo n ipaprint nya ung for na un basta open lang nya ung site tapos papirma nya un sa any legal officer. naka include dun ung mga responsibilities nya sa travel mo..

nej..ung statutory na binigay ng BF ko isang page lang basta nandun ung mga detalye..isang page lang binigay nya sken eh..ang answer ko dun is “NO”,tapos ang nilagay ko sa sponsor boyfriend kase un naman ang totoo..

basahin mo ung Statutory na naresearch mo,meron kase ako nakitang page ng Statutory of Declaration na intented for Spouse visa if Im not mistaken..now, kung wala ka namang nakitang ganun na nakasulat sa Statutory of Declaration na nakita mo, well I think tama na yan since tourist visa lang naman ang kukunin mo..basta ang isusulat ng BF mo sa Statutory ung responsibilities nya sayo sa lahat “accomodation and Financial”..ipaindicate mo din sa Statutory na uuwi ka dito after few weeks example “Nej (complete name mo) will go back in Philippines after 6 weeks (example lang) as she has family responsibilities and employment.” or kung wala ka namang work ilagay mo nalang ang matibay na reason kung bakit kelangan mo bumalik ng Philippines..
