[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

hello Grace, nung umalis ako tinignan nila documents ng fiance ko. my visa grant notice and a copies of passport, driver’s license, and his invitation letter ang naipakita ko. they were not that satisfied so they asked for our pictures together but then na check in na ung luggage ko. dun ko kasi nailagay dahil dko iniexpect na pati un ay titignan nila. dumaan na papers ko sa embassy so i think no need to check those papers again. buti nlng at nagpasigurado akong dalhin mga un just in case tignan nila. ayuko kasi mgkaron ng problema sa pag alis ko. pinasunod nya ako para may kumausap sakin at nung nandun na may kinausap muna xa dahil wala ung taong supposed to be kakausap sakin tapos sabi nya ok na daw and then he went back to his counter and get the small paper i filled out at un nakapasok na ako sa gate. First time ko kasi mag travel. wala pa xang nakitang tatak sa passport ko so maybe just to make sure of everything he asked me kung sino pupuntahan ko at kung saan taz saka xa nagtanong ng documents ng fiance ko. Ikaw ba ung aalis ng Oct.1? if so then Goodluck and Godbless sayo.. have a safe trip..
hi janice thanks for that information at least i know what i bring para di ako magkaproblema..dalhin ko na lang lahat ng important documents just to be sure anyway..first time ko din kasi magtravel and wala pa din tatak yun passport ko..nakakatulong talaga eto site na ito.. kasi i will travel pa to manila at malayo din place namin dito..God bless also janice and you make me feel confident and no worries now..
may visa na po kasi ako i just want to ask if they ask lots of questions sa immigration and if they ask about the invitation letter which is original or okay lang na xerox copy kasi xerox na lang naibalik ng agency ko..just worried.

Hi Reslyn, how are you?.yep you can lodge your tourist visa application now para pagdating ng bf mo ei makuha mo na visa result.
the first thing you have to do is to check if your tourist visa has a condition 8503 or ‘no further stay’ on it. if it does, you cannot be granted any further visa while in Australia, unless the condition is waived (not easy to get the waiving). if it does, you can lodge the partner visa onshore and you will be granted a bridging visa while waiting for the visa to be processed.

Hi Piona, im Caselyn, im Married to an OZ, kakauwi ko lang ng pinas yesterday after ng 3 months tourist visa sa Perth Australia, and with in this week or next week, mag aaply ako ng another tourist multiple visa for one year para mahaba maba yung pag sasama namen , then ilolodge ko yung spousal visa pag nagrant na yung tourist visa ko, kase sunduin ako dito ng husband ko sa pinas and that time na yung plano nameng ilodge yung spousal visa, PEDE PO BA YUN? curious lang po.

You need to show a return ticket, else they won’t let you check in for your flight out of Manila.

and also, if u have a pending spousal visa, di ka mabibigyan ng one year na TV kalimitan the co will give u 3 months or with no NFS condition or depende din yan sa case u.

Hello Ces,first u must call the via center s hotline # nila to arrange for the pick up of your documents through Air21 then they will going to give u an instruction and sched for the pick up of ur documents..U need to put all doc s long brown envelope then u must sealed it together with ur signature..Kelangan include mo original passport mo & ung xerox copy ng passport ung kukunin nla then ibblik ung original n passport mo after the decision has been made.

Hi Jen, he can sponsor you kasi separated naman na siya matagal na like dun sa case ng friend ng bf ko…ala naman interview yun kung meron man over the phone nalang the case officer will call you tapos may mga itatanong siya about relationship status pero sa pagkakaalam ko pag complete requirements ka di ka na tatawagan ok lang na ala kang trabaho as long as yung sponsor mo ay may enough funds para sa stay mo sa OZ at dapat may work din xa…ala din naman akong work when i applied my tourist visa though im working as part time tutor pero di ko dineclare saka di naman ako nagpasa ng bank statement ko…gawa ka intent letter tapos family tree it means you have close family ties in PH katunayan na babalik ka, in some cases like mine when i first applied for tourist visa tinawagan kasi ako ng case officer na may hawak sa application ko tapos tinanong niya ako ano balak kong gain sa oz pagdating at kung ano plans ko b4 my visa expires ayun sinabi ko na ipapasyal ako ng bf ko tapos b4 my visa expires uuwi ako ng pinas with my bf bcoz he want to meet my family and we are planning to get married…kung nagkita na kayo ng bf mo jan sa pinas enclose mo picture nyu together…

Hi lyn, kung my 200k ka sa account mo dapat my in and out transaction.. Do u have an ITR (income tax return) of 200k or more and western western union receipts? thats fine if you have that atleast justifiable..Kasi karamihan wala sponsor pero may malaking halaga sa account na dedeny parin. Mas maganda pag my sponsor ka and letter from him that he made sure you have enough money on your bank, . It doesnt mean they have to present a bank statement. They can give you their power bill and or land title and statdec. Pero if your not confident with your docs. You can get assistance with a reliable agency.Goodluck

I think kya di k p nka rceive ng txt ksi s dmi ng application specially its pick season,for sure andun n yun kya lng di p n open ung envelope mo but dont worry,mkkrecieve k din ng txt..ako nga before super worried ksi expect ko a day after pinik up ppers ko they going to txt ksi thursday for delivery n and i was expecting by friday andun n un but I didnt get any txt from them,,monday night p ako nka received ng txt informing me andun n ppers ko,,then 1 week after nila n receive exactly 8 working days i received my doc together with visa grant notice..so dont worry, Im sure grant then visa mo like me

Not really needed naman talaga yung birth cert sa au embassy nakalagay db sa site nila na pag below 18 years old lang need ng BC sa pag apply ng TV…so kung ala ka ipapasang BC doesnt really matter…

invitation letter is a must girl 🙂 kz dun pagbabasehan ng embassy un application mo..its one of the most important papers that u need and intent letter is from you..i made my hand written then i put my signature on the bottom..good luck gurl

Neril, handwritten or typewriiten doesnt matter basta may pirma mo..Kahit kasama mo bf mo mag apply hindi naman kayo sa embassy pupunta dun sa VIA Center kasi and besides sa case officer nakasalalay yung pagkagrant ng visa mo complete and proper documentation is a must…
Hello po.. tinawagan na ako ng embassy and they just told me that i am not able to have the 12 months multiple entry visa.. 3 months sngle visa lang daw.. which is ok lang … ibig sbhn po ba nito ma gragrant na ung visa applicaton ko? salamat.. 🙂

Hi Rose ann, yes it is possible and same docs ang kailangan mo…just take note of the month when u start chatting to each other and the date and month where you officially on online…kasi sometimes the visa case officer will call and ask you some questions regarding your relationship status and they will ask you what you want to do in OZ and plans before your visa expires..and you have to tell them that you communicate everyday via skype or any means of communication plus dapat same answer kayo ng BF mo kasi minsan they will e-mail your bf too so dapat same answer…:) Goodluck!

halfblood28 ask ko lang pag napick up na ba yung docs based to ur twice lodging once naresib na ng embassy they will text or inform u always?? lagi ba ganon?or pwedeng di ka na nila itext at pag pabalik na passport mo saka ka lang nila ititxt??kc nung 29 ako napik up pero until now no text if nasa kanila na application ko 🙁
Base on my experienced they texted me when they already got my visa application..minsan naman yung iba di nakakareceive ng text i dont know why…sakin kasi 4 days after ng pick up saka lang nagtext yung embassy…so since nag weekend maybe today or by tom u will receive a text..Don’t panic!..u will be surprise about your visa…
To those who are applying for tourist visa dont bother to print you and your fiance’s conversation. It is NOT a requirement for TV. For Spouse visa yan required. Ako kasi before i gathered all the required documents i asked the immigration if its necessary to pass IM conversation as a proof of communication. Ok daw na wag ng magpasa nun pero its up to us daw whether we still like to so I lodged my docs without it at na grant ako. Makakabawas na un sa problema nyo sa pag aasikaso ng documents. Hello Neril,, ilagay mo sa form when u gusto mag travel at when you balik, nag lodged ako is july 23 ata iyon,tapos nilagay ko sa form when me gusto mag travel is august 17 balik is nov 17,heheheh, tapos dko alam ung isan mong tanong about doon sa isa, kung pwidi magbayad bf mo about sa payment for tourist visa, kasi ung akin lagi manager cheque.,sana makatulong info ko sau,,,,,,,,
