[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

I will give you a little bit of background before asking my question. In early March 2011 I met Russian women on facebook and from that point onward we chatted everyday on skype or via phone it wasnt long before we started a long distance relationship early April 2011. In early July I went to Moscow to visit her (yes, I have just returned) and everything went great now we are looking at applying for the prospective marriage VISA subclass 300.
So these are the facts:
* I have known her for 6months
* We have been in a relationship for 4 months
* I have met her in person for 2 weeks(have many photo’s of us together in moscow) We stayed together in an apartment in Moscow.
* I have a good stable job and higher education
* She also has a good education and can speak English very well
* She is 24 and im 27
Note: not sure if they take age and education into account but thought I would add it.
My question is would we have a good chance to get the prospective marriage VISA. We are concerned maybe they they will deny based on the fact we have only met and lived together for 2 weeks and known each other for 6 months.
Thanks for the reply but just to clarify, what do you mean apart from the length of time. Is there a requirement for the length of time we should have known each other? I didnt think there was for a prospective marriage VISA. Id love to hear from anybody who has been in a similar situation and if the VISA was granted.
Also if we meet all the requirements there would be no reason for them to deny. This is the documentation I can provide to them (please let me know anything else I can provide):
* I can provide 4 stat dec’s from my sister, mum, brother and two friends who can confirm the relationship is real. My partner can provide 2 from her mum and sister.
Note: My sister and partner talk regularly on the skype and facebook.
* I can provide alot of photo’s of us together
* I can provide evidence of emails we have sent each other and skype chats and calls (although I dont want to give them all my emails or skype chats as they are private of course, how much of these should I give them).
Is there anything else I could give them?
Do we have a good chance of obtaining the VISA, love to hear from somebody who has been in a similar situation.

There is no requirement stating how long you have to know your partner for – the only requirement is that you have met face-to-face; which you have.

What to provide with your Prospective Marriage visa application
When you lodge your application, you must provide:
• completed application form 47SP Application for migration to Australia by a partner and form 40SP Sponsorship for a partner to migrate to Australia (completed by your sponsor).
These are available from the department’s website Applications and Forms – Visas & Immigration to be downloaded as PDF files, printed out and filled in, or obtained in hard copy from an office of the department or Australian mission and filled in.
• if appointing a migration agent or exempt agent or authorised recipient, a completed form 956 Appointment of a migration agent or exempt agent or other authorised recipient;
• 4 recent passport-size photographs of yourself and 2 recent passport-size photographs of your sponsor (see page 5);
• certified copies of your passport or travel documents (see page 27 for information on certified copies);
• proof of your identity (see page 39);
• proof that your sponsor is aged 18 years or over and is an Australian citizen, Australian
permanent resident or eligible New Zealand Citizen (see page 40);
• satisfactory evidence that you and your fiancé(e) have met face to face as adults and that you are personally known to each other;
• evidence that there is no impediment to you marrying your fiancé(e) (for example and as appropriate, if either you and/or your fiancé(e) have been previously married or a previous spouse has died, a certified copy of the divorce decree absolute or the death certificate of the deceased spouse);
• written statements from both you and your fiancé(e) detailing the history of your fiancé(e) relationship (for example, when and how you met, when you became engaged, joint activities, significant events in the relationship) and your future plans as husband and wife;
• evidence that you intend to marry your fiancé(e) within 9 months of being granted the visa. Such evidence must be a signed and dated letter (on letterhead) from an authorised marriage celebrant who will conduct your wedding ceremony. The letter must include the place and date (or date range) on which the planned marriage ceremony may take place. If you plan to marry in Australia, the celebrant must confirm that a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) for you and your fiancé(e) has been lodged
with them (see page 33 for further details about NOIMs);
• evidence that both you and your fiancé(e) are both of marriageable age, which means usually you must both be 18 years of age when you marry. If either you or your fiancé(e) is aged under 18 years, you must provide a court order from an Australian magistrate authorising the marriage;
After this visa is granted, you have 9 months to marry your partner, and before the 9 months is up your wife must apply for a partner visa.

Scanned docs is fine Reslyn di na need ipa certified basta pag colored ipaprint mo din ng coolored at must be clear..
You can request managers check on your bank kung ala kang bank account you can ask a friend or cousin na may bank account to request for it payable to Australian Embassy dun mo idedeposit sa account nila yung 5300 taz may bayad un depended sa bank 100 or 150 or if wala talaga your bf can pay for it sa embassy here in OZ taz send sayo yung scanned receipt…

Ano po kaya maganda gawin? I want to stay there for 3 months then balik din pinas like what I’ve said I am helping my mom taking care of my special child niece. So do u think, can i just put at the form and invitation letter just for Christmas holiday na lang? But i will really stay there for 3 months? Help naman po.

Gawa ka intent letter mo para doon mo mailagay lahat ng gusto mo ipaliwanag sa pagpunta mo doon.then make sure na complete ung supporting docs ng friend mo sayo… kuha ka ng certification of enrollment mo patunay na babalik ka pa rin dito pinas.. matibay na un na katibayan kasi nag aaral ka pa pala.. ako nga stop from schoolig at walang work na grant naman.. at wala din intent letter.. pero mas ok na merun ka intent letter.. 🙂 sana makatulong.. Oo tama na kunin mo ung id, cert.of enrollment and other docs na enrolled ka.. oo bf ko nag invite.. Wag ka matakot wala ka naman masamang ggwin eh.. hehe.. Pwede na un buti nga ikaw alam ng friend mo ibbgay na documents bf ko nung una di nia alam ako pa nagsabi.. hehehe… May mga kilala kasi ako dito BF nila online nag invite never pa cla meet in person pero na grant cla.. and in ur case naman enrolled ka so may chance ka proof na u have the intention na umuwi pa ng pinas hehe.. just think positive 🙂

He can’t be your sponsor, but I think he can still send you an invitation letter that you can attach with your visa application. I suggest you apply for your visa before you leave your current job. You can apply 3 months before your trip to Australia.

hello rhylyn05, sorry for the late reply..mdyo bz ksi gala..after ko nag check-in ng bbage i payed 550 for the terminal fee then after i complete the form for the immi I just smiled & greet the immi officer,binigay ko lng passport ko together w/my visa & roundtrip ticket,then immi asked me if cno ppuntahn ko s OZ then how many months, after that she stamped my passport then everything is ok,i didnt pay any travel tax..just relax and be confident pra wla n mrmi tnong..then s brisbane immi same greet them and smile then they gonna asked u if u understand english then after they got the form directso s custom,better n never bring any foods pra wla n mging problema..Have a safe trip rhylyn05

Here i am again just want to share and for these somehow i can release what i feel. until now po wala pa akong txt msgs coming from embassy or air 21. they pick up the docu last sept 18 and until now wala pang result. really worried and pressured waiting for the result sana magrant nila ako ng tv. Gandang gabi po sa lahat!!!! Gsto qu lng e share how I feel tonight since I got the mail from Air21, my visa is Granted!!! so fast I don’t really expect it. I lodge my application last week Sept. 20, tas nung monday nkareceive aqu ng sms from Australian embassy n natanggap n nila docs. qu, tas kninang umaga I received sms from Air21 that they gonna ship my docs today and around 6 pm n recieve qu n nga xa! Thanks sa po sa page nto Ms. Nina it helps me a lot!!!!

hello madelle…did the air 21 tell you that your visa was granted? kc i already receive txt msg from air 21 for the delivery of my documents yesterday and receive another one this morning that theres a delay because of the volume of the delivery..now i am worried..no txt msgs from emabssy too.. wish me luck everyone. ces, ganyan din ako sa air21 noon.. sept.4 na ready to receive na docs ko. pero inabot ng sept.6 kasi nhrapan cla hnapin bahay ko.. better call the air21 and sbhn mo na u need your docs na tlga.. gnun ksi ako noon.. bbgay nila ung cellphone number nung may hawak ng papers mo.. direct ka na to contact.. Gnun gnwa ko.. ksi nag-aalala din ako noon. 🙂 sa awa ng diyos ayun nareceive ko naman.. basta twagan mo air21.. wala na ittext and embassy when ur docs. is already released kasi na sa courier na yun.. courier na ang kulitin mo.. 🙂 hehehe.. iniisip ko nga kung dadaan me sa agent??may alam ba kayo??

Hi Ody, nagpasa ka ba ng intent letter mo at evidence of strong family ties katunayan na babalik ka ng pinas b4 ur visa expires?..anu ba nakalagay sa refusal letter mo?.kasi jan mo mai-base kung bakit ka narefuse…check mo refusal letter….you can apply again!

I’m here again, my situation is a bit difficult since my bf is not Australian, can I submit a photocopy of some of my passport page with stamps of the countries I visited? I traveled to Vietnam and Sri Lanka, and the reason why I need to get out of Maldives once I finished my contract is because its one of their visa rules and policy. do you guys think its a strong proof that I will follow OZ visa policy and will be enough for them to be assured that I’m not gonna stay after the visa expires?please help.. 🙂 thank you

Sa invitation letter po saken ng friend ko ok lang ba wag ko na lang palagay na graduating ako this October?, Kasi plan ko by November ako punta sa Australia pero ipapalagay ko sa Invi and Intent letter ko December pa and for christmas holiday lang.. Hello Meg, oo pwidi kana umalis ,pag my visa kana, anytime pwidi ka umalis, okay ipasa mo ung certificate of enrollment,pati id mo ipasa mo,zerox mo lahat ng dudcumets, ung hindi mo lang zerox ang 48r ata, bago mo sagutin basahin mo maigi,kasi sanatatandaan ko sa application form ko, my ibang question doon pabalik balik lng,kaya mo yan, masasagutan mo yan, kung hindi ka sure huwag muna sagutan, doon nalang pag nag lodge kana,,godbless

Hello Maggie,its not a big deal if my bank account ka or wla,as long as u have a sponsor and she/he have enough funds to support u, while ur in australia..ksi in my case i didn’t submit my own bank statement of account nor business permit but still granted nman visa ko..

maggie its better to call via center mag inquire ka kung mag kano .if you travel alone you need it ..you need to show your bank account

Kahit photocopy ung ipasa mo ok lang.. basta scanned xa.. 🙂 and keep the originals just in case.. sa questions naman sikapin mong sagutan ng appropriate.. 🙂 just relax and be careful sa pag answer.. 🙂 Better lodge by yourself 😉 if you think hawak mo naman lahat ng documents.. and complete naman.. just relax and stay positive.. and pray.. Hello Meg, if ever ung question not applicable dont leave it blank u need to put N/A & read it carefully before k mag answer..if u think u have completed all the documents with u, no need n mag agency k p. its better u have a photocopy of all documents that u going to submit just incase..
