[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

I already received my VISA GRANT NOTICE yesterday, Air 21 picked up my documents last Sept. 25, 2012. Since then, I did not received any message from Australian Embassy or from Air 21. May be busy na sila masyado kasi peak season na. Every night tinitingnan ko sa web site ng air 21 kung ano na nangyari with my documents through the tracking number that I have on the official receipt that they gave to me.. It says there that Sept 28, 2012 air 21 delivered my documents to Australian embassy.. Medyo inabot ng 3 days before nakarating ng Manila at before nila na deliver yong docs ko kasi medyo malayo din place ko, I am from Davao del sur nga pala. Yesterday morning (Oct. 9) I received a message from Australian Embassy telling me that my documents were already at the courier (Air 21).. Grabeh talaga kaba ko kasi walang sinabi sa text message kung granted ba o denied yong TV application ko. After that nakatanggap din ako ng text message from Air 21 saying na nasa kanila na daw yong documents ko and they will deliver it daw in a few days, di rin sinabi sa text message kung granted ba.. Grabeh pa rin talaga kaba ko..At around 2 o’clock in the afternoon air 21 texted me again na papunta na daw sila ng office…And thank you so much Lord because it’s a VISA GRANT NOTICE for 3 months.. Sa Adelaide nga pala destination ko… My first time to travel out of the country. Anybody here na nasa Adelaide?? I am planning to fly by Nov. 10 then be back on Dec. 16… Salamat uli… I just want to share… God bless..

Nope, wala akong plane ticket na ipinasa sa Embassy.. Di natin need magbili o mag submit o magbigay sa Embassy ng copy ng plane ticket kasi di pa sigurado kung maga grant yong inaaplayan nating TV.. baka masayang lang if ever ma deny kasi having a plane ticket is not an assurance na ma grant ‘yong visa natin. Sayang din yong deduction plus the hassle pag nagpa refund ka ng ticket…

hi jen.. thru courier lang ako nag-lodge.. sa website ng air21 ako nakaka pag check ng status ko, input mo lang dun ang tracking number tas lalabas na ang whereabouts ng documents mo. ako nga super worried na kc Oct 04 na pick-up, oct 06 nareceive sa embassy. Last call ko kahapon sa hotline ng embassy ang sabi under-process pa rin, wala din akong nareceive na text from embassy…

hello gen, g’day…hindi ka nag courier (air21) so wala kang tracking number so hindi ka pwede mag check sa website kasi hindi ka nag courier.. All you have to do is punta ka sa VIA.PH Center kung saan mo sinubmit ‘yong documents mo and try to make some follow-up of your documents. when you submitted your documents at VIAC may binigay ba sila na reference number sa ‘yo? if meron dalhin mo yon para madali lang pag trace ng documents mo.. Kung malayo ka naman sa VIAC tawag ka na lang sa hotline number nila tapos be sure uli to have your reference number para madali lang pag check sa status ng VISA application mo… I knew what you feel kasi ganyan din feeling ko noong di ko pa natanggap ‘yong result..nakaka stress talaga.. Peak season na kasi ngayong October kaya siguro medyo delayed ‘yong processing nila but just be positive and relax lang im sure it’s a VISA Grant Notice… God bless.. saan ka nga pala sa aussie gen? me sa adelaide pero sa November pa ang flight ko..

hi emma bago lng ako dito. any idea how many days ba bago makuha ung documents? kakaapply ko lng nung oct.10th tas oct.11th nsa australian embassy na ung documents ko for tourist visa. and mgkano ba dapat ung savings ng sponsor/fiancee ko s savings nya? ung s knya kc $2,700 lng..pero ung salary nya every 2weeks ay $1,600. sa invite letter nya cnabi nya n nkatira sya now sa parents nya kc ngdivorce cla ng asawa nya pinagbili nla ung house para hati daw cla. now nkatira sya s parents nya wala syang binabayaran na bills kaya he wrote na he can support me. about the proof of accommodation ung mother nya ngsulat sya ng letter stating i can stay with them and they are willing to help us too. proof that i will returrn here nilagay ko ung ticket ko nung ngpunta ako ng hong kong pati ung mga pictures ko, nilagay ko din ung contract and agreement ng new job ko pagdating ko d2. tas letter from my mother and sister na stating na babalik akoo dito with my fiancee and also about sa operation ng tatay ko. kumuha pa ako ng certificate na naoperahan ung tatay ko sa ulo. and also ung apartment ko dito, kakarenew ko lng ng contract kc. additional documents are our what’s app conversation, ung ticket and boarding pass nya nung ngpunta sya dito last september. sa tingin nyo ok ba ung mga linagay ko? salamat 🙂

it depends daw kung complete ung mga documents ko mas mabilis daw. mga 1 week to 2 weeks daw if its tourist visa for 3months if 6months ung aaplayan ko mga 1month daw ung processing..wait ko nlang..ok lng ba ung pinasa kung mga documents? bka kc kulang..:( thanks s reply ms. emma

yes,as soon as they got ur documents thats the start of processing time,just have faith that everything will gonna be fine,think positive & pray..I felt that feelings before when I started lodging my application but thanks God he heared my prayers..so u too just have faith on him & nothing is impossible

May naririnig kc akong mga story na yung mga IO daw mga korakot, nangungutong daw, tapos pag d ka nakabigay offload ka diritso… Hinahanapan daw nila ng mga ways para ma offload, keso may hnahanap na mga docs or watever pag d napakita ayun offload na ang show…. Dba pag TV lang passport, visa at round trip ticket lang ang ipakita? Ito din yung nakalagay na requirements sa website ng immigration…..
just smile,greet them & be confident pra wla n sila dmi tnong,then bigay u n kaagad visa grant notice mo,passport & roundtrip ticket & also ung form u fill up from the check in line counter..di nman cla humingi ng pera or what so ever..as long as they know n di k nla mlo2xko..

Bale Sept 28 (friday) nakarating ng embassy yong documents ko..tapos Sept 29& 30 is saturday & sunday tapos oct 1 is holiday yata sila kasi holiday din that time sa australia kasi australia day daw sabi ng fiancee ko so bale Oct 2 na sila nag resume ng work…Tapos may work pala ang embassy kahit saturday kasi ang date ng VISA GRANT NOTICE ko is Oct 6 which is Saturday tapos Oct 9 ng umga na nag text ‘yong embassy sa akin na nasa courier (air21) na daw yong docs ko di din sinabi if granted ba kaya sobrang kaba ko talaga..

Pwede din siguro ipadala ng bf mo ‘yong document to prove na tumatanggap xa ng pension from the Aussie Govt para maging supporting documents mo with your TV application..
I think ang problema mo is walang bahay yong bf mo dahil nakikitira lang xa sa friend nya ng walang bayad dahil xa bale yong care taker…May be ang pwedeng ipadala ng friend ng bf mo is invitation letter lang tapos ilagay nya doon sa invitation letter nya na doon nakatira sa bahay nya yong bf mo at willing xa na e accomodate ka when you are there in Australia.. ilagay din nya sa invitation letter nya sa ‘yo yong complete address ng bahay nya at contact/telephone o mobile number nya dahil baka tawagan xa ng Australian Embassy for some confirmation kung totoo bang doon nakatira bf mo sa bahay nya at kung totoong willing siya na e accomodate ka o doon ka titira sa bahay nya when you are in Australia…

Great day to all! I also lodged my application for tv yesterday and was advised to wait for 2 weeks to a month. Though I visited the Australian Embassy website and VIA website, reading all your comments helped a lot in preparing for my application kaya I’m dropping by to say maraming salamat! Sana like all of you, magrant din ang visa ko and sana kasing bilis din ng sa inyo. My boyfriend who invited me is from Cartwright, NSW which is more or less an hour from Sydney he said. Is there anyone there visiting nearby? We plan to have me in Australia for 3 months starting as soon as my visa application is granted.

hello zeny thankyou kakauwi ko lang galing sa office nang agent qo..ngayon kulang kinuha yung visa qo sa knya she called me october 16 tapos kunuha by thursday nah kasi, yun fiance qo super strict ayaw nya ko papuntahan yung aqo lang mag-isa. ang nkalagay sa visa qo na visa grand date is october 12 so bli vah 1 day lang yung process nag visa qo.? .akala ko 5 days wow super fast, yung agent qo she lodge my application october 8, october 10 na recive na nag docs ko sa sutralia emabssy then october 12, s the grant date notice nang visa qo.since october 13, 14 s saturday and sunday october 16 my agent called me that i am granted na may visa na aqo wow, di ko akalain na kai super fast nang process nang visa qo..i nakabili nah aqo nang luggage ko zenny hehehe super me exited zenny by december po vah summer sa oz?

hi annah, yes first TV application ko ito, was so stressed nga nung hindi ko pa pinapasa application ko, kasi had to wait for my passport pa nung Friday, so when I finally received my passport, diretso na ako sa Makati para ipasa application ko. Balitaan mo ako pag tinext ka na ng embassy ha.

I have track my application online at http://www.via.ph today. It says “Your visa application has been delivered and received at the Visa Office of the Australian Embassy.”
So waiting na lang me sa result. Ikaw annah, ano na status sayo sis?

I am planning to leave on Nov. 02 sana to Coffs harbour, NSW (if visa permitted). Hope it won’t take long pero okay na rin, i can wait basta grant ang result… haha… wish we luck sis 😉

Hello sainyo, question regarding tourist visa, i would like to apply for a 5months tourist visa. What are the major requirements should i prepare? I don’t have properties/land title and credit card. Currently i’m a regular employee in a private company here in philippines. Do they really need a show money for tourist visa? if yes, how much do they actually prefer?
sorry, forgot to mention that my mother want to backup and she’s planning to put an additional cash in my savings account since i don’t have enough savings in my account right now. is that possible? just in case, i have my payslip every month and a total income per year, can i also add this in my application?
