[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

goodmorning miss nina, plsss advice mo nman me dito na ako sa maynila now, hindi ko alam gagawin ko kung hihintayin ko ba yung txt ng embassy o ako na mismo pupunta don sa via. ph… na lodge na kasi yung application ko last october 16,2012 at sabi sa akin doon ako na mismo pag follow -up dito sa manila… wala po akong agency o hindi po ako dumaan sa air21 or kahit anong dilivery…. ano po gagawin ko? salamat po… godbless
Hi Gen, di ba nila sinabi sayo na 15 working days to 1 month yung processing ng visa?..antay-antay mu lang kasi madami ata nag lodge ng visa applications ngayon baka madaming nirereview yung case officer na may hawak ng application mo…mine took almost a month but it’s worth wait!…be positive don’t panic!.

hi yuri, thru courier ako nag-lodge, oct 04 napick-up.. na received sa embassy Oct 06, visa grant date is oct12.. mabilis sya kaso lang matagal bago dumating sa akin kaya super worried ..

Hi Rhona, you can call VIA center and set an appointment for pick up of your documents if you cannot lodge it personally…
magkano ang binayaran mo yun nagpasa ka ng application? diba 600 sis? idedeliver ng courier yun sa address na nilagay mo. wala ba silang binigay na reference number para matrack mo online sis?
Peak season now so medyo madaming applicants need talaga ng patience :))15 working days to 1 month pag mga ganitong month kasi madaming nagtatravel during xmas and new year :))

hello lyn..good evening…’yong sa akin naman lahat ng documents ng fiancee ko that I submitted to the Australian Emabssy was all scan mail lang, walang tatak ng Justice of Peace. ‘Yong una nyang pinadala na photocopy ng Passport Bio page niya at yong contract ng Residential Tenancy Agreement niya was sign by the Justice of Peace pero hindi ko ginamit kasi it was dated Dec. 2011 masyado ng matagal.. He invited me last year (Dec. 2011) to come to OZ last Feb-March 2012 pero hindi ako nakapunta kasi hindi pa ako ready that time busy pa masyado sa work. So when I lodge my documents for TV last Sept 2012 nagpadala uli xa sa akin ng 1) Invitation Letter 2) Passport biopage 3) Employment Certificate 4) Payslip and 5) Driver’s License. Lahat ng ‘yon ay scan mail lang at hindi sign ng Justice of Peace. Good luck and God bless. Just have faith and think positive…

HI Karen, tama si halfblood..kung wala kang work declare mo na wala kang work kasi kung gawa-gawa lang ‘yong Employment Certificate mo baka mahuli ka at madamay pa ibang applicants.. Just be honest and God will do the rest…Kung plan ni God na makakapunta ka ng OZ, HE will always make ways para makarating ka ng OZ… Good luck and God bless you Karen..

Hi Karen! They’re right sis! You can declare nmn na unemployed ka like what i did. Actually i can provide nmn bank statement but i got worried na di acceptable kc insufficient fund ako so i decided wag nlng. I only submitted invitation letter from my bf w/his signature, his 4 mos. bank statement and proof of accommodation. then in my part just me and my son’s birth certificate. Granted nmn result. pero if meron ka pa other supporting docs iattached mo na rin. Basta be honest lng and everything will fall to places. Good luck karen!

As Aussie dude said, ang pagcount nyan is from the day na dumating ka sa Australia, so if oct 27 ka dumating, hanggang jan 26 ang 3 months mo sis

Hi everyone!!! Hi honeyangel, ms. emma, gen, angel & miss nina!!! yehey!!! i have my visa granted today. was delivered in my house @ 12:47pm. But before that i received a text from australian embassy @9:23 a.m today din that my passport and documents has been dispatched to the courier for delivery and expect in a few days. kala ko friday or saturday pa. wow super fast!!! i was super screaming when i see the grant visa notice words. God is good mga sis!!! Thanks to all in this site and to our almighty God. you’re next sis!!!

i lodged my application on October 18 then was granted on October 23, delivered to my house October 25, today. 7 days lang to be exact! two thumbs up to “AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY”!!! Thanks indeed

October 15 ko na submit yung documents ko then yesterday nag text sila na i dedeliver daw passport and documents ko saken within the next few days. Haaay sana approved. 🙁

Hi Ms. Halfblood28, I just received my Certificate of employment at contract ko from my employer, stating that I’m employed sa kanila sa contract naman hinighlight nila na entitled ako for annual leave by feb or after a year of working for them, ang problem ko is for both documents nagkabali baliktad ang name ko sabi nang HR namin ganun daw ang nasa system nila anyway nakalagay naman ang passport # ko dun so okay lang daw, you think ok lang talaga?should I just explain it sa intent letter ko? help naman po oh.

In that case kailangan mo i-explain sa intent letter bat ganun or kung pwede mu papalitan nalang yung spelling dun sa HR nyu kasi maku-question talaga yun ng C.O lalo na dito satin mabusisi sila if dun sa oz yan doesnt matter kaso dito satin alam mu naman mga pinoy at since pinoy din mga C.O dito…kung ayaw naman palitan sa HR nyu explain mu nalang na ganun nga para alam ng C.O why ganun yung nasa COE mu..:))

Hi Emma, mag aapply ka pala ulit for a tourist visa. kelan ka uuwi? ako sa nov.22 then submit ulit application the next day before ako uwi sa lugar namin. Plano ko mag apply for a 6 months tourist visa. naka try ka na ba ng 6 mos. visa? required ba ang medical certificate? sabi kasi ng fiance ko yung pinay friend daw nya na d2 na sa OZ nakatira for almost 2 years is parang hindi naman hiningan ng medical. parang ang need lang daw mag medical is yung may edad na. is it true?

hi janice,required ang medical kpg apply k 6months..anyway,the embassy will email you,(so make sure you will give them ur email address) for ur medical..together with their acknowledgment letter n ntngp n nila un documents mo..in case n hnd k nila email for medical so it means hnd k nila mbbgyan ng 6months TV..so its either denied or bbgyn k nila ng 3months TV… good luck janice 🙂

Hello Janice, oo mag apply me uli ng tourist visa, same padin dati nov 17 uwi ko, saturday ata iyon tapos pagka monday lodge ako ng application tapos uwi din sa lugar nmin,,hindi pa ako nag try ng 6 months,,,,,,, kasi my friend me sa fb galing din sa site na ito ni ms nina, nag apply siya 6 months ata iyon , grant naman ang kanyang 6 months ,piro multiple entry wala daw siyang medical, un ang sbi niya,,,,,,,,,,, sana magkasabay tau mag apply janice:)

Hi Emma, kelan na’grant yung friend mo? this year lang ba? good for her kasi more than what she expected yung visa na natanggap nya. meron din ako kakilala na 59y/o na na nabigyan ng multiple visa after applying a TV. hindi na rin ata sya nirequire ng medical. sana hndi na rin ako hingan kasi hassle ang pagpupunta ng manila, need ko pa ng may makakasama.lol. mga 19 ka makakapag lodge while me is on 23rd. sana magkasabay tayo ng pag alis. before new year ako alis if maprocess agad papers ko. mag spend din ako ng xmas with my family then new year with my fiance and his daughter. by the way, pano yung manager’s check mo? ako kasi, yun ang problema ko sa ngayon. sa BPI Bicol branch ako nag open account eh plan ko mag lodge the next day of my arrival. pano kaya ako makakakuha ng manager’s check? is there any other way on how to get a check without using my account? parang may nabasa kasi ako noon d2 sa site na pwede makakuha. hindi ko na kasi mahanap yung post na yun eh. sa mga nakakaalam at naka experience ng ganun, please let me know para dna ako umuwi pa sa malayong lugar namin just to get a check then balik ng manila. i will gladly appreciate your reply. 🙂

I just wanna make sure kung saan located iyon. suwerte naman ng friend mo. malabo ata na magkasabay tayo mag lodge pero ang pag alis baka magkasabay tayo. first plan namin ay d2 din ako mag spend xmas pero nagbago. very important kasi samin ng family ko ang xmas season dahil bukod sa pasko ginugunita din namin ang pagkamatay ng father ko. pero baka magbago ulit so baka d2 ako magpasko and in that case baka magkasabay tayo…sana para magkakilala naman tayo, dba..

I applied for 6 months tourist visa last year and it was granted. A chest x-ray is needed for a 6 months TV. The embassy will send you notification as to when and where you should have your chest x-ray. Good luck!

hello rose5254, search mo sa google how much babayaran mo sa tax, akin kasi una kung punta dto wala me binayaran sa tax, tapos noong pangalawa myroon na, buti nlng ate hindi agad umalis kung hind,hehhe baka hindi me natuloy,,,,,, ung natatandaan ko sa binayaran ko is, 1,650 pisos ata iyon tapos my 550 pisos,or 750 not sure sa terminal fee, lahat binayaran ko is mahigit 2,000 pisos,
kung magdadala ka ng cigarettes magbabayad ka ng tax depende kung gaano kadami dala mu pag sumobra dun sa quota na dapat ganun lang kadami dadalhin mu you have to pay for the excess i dunno how much pero ganun…so you have to bring AUD para just in case may pambayad ka…just look for the au immig rules for bringing goods inside the country…:))
