[Update: September 15, 2014] Philippine passport holders can now apply for an Australian tourist visa online through the IMMI website. Application fee must be paid via credit card. You can still apply in person through VFS.

I am not a visa officer, nor am I migration agent. I am in no way affiliated with the Australian Embassy Manila nor with the Australian government. This post comes from my experience with preparing and submitting visa applications for family members and for myself. Also note that this entry pertains to my experience in applying for an Australian tourist visa in October 2006. The Australian immigration update their forms every 3 months. I will try to answer your questions the best way that I can, but bear in mind that a lot has changed since 2006. If you ask a question I’ve already answered in the post, I will ignore you.
One of the questions people ask me when I tell them I’ve been to Australia is if it’s easy to get a tourist visa. Almost everybody in Manila have heard of stories of how hard it is to obtain a US tourist visa: compiling documents like birth certificate, bank statements, even land titles O_O, paying a high application fee, waiting in line for hours for an interview. Is it as hard to get a tourist visa for Australia as it is for the US?
Actually, it’s not whether it’s harder on not, but it really boils down to how complete your documents are. I believe all embassies would be very meticulous about all the applications they receive, and it is really important to send them all the required documents.
Be it the Australian embassy, the US embassy or the Chinese embassy, they all want to know the same thing: that you are who you say you are, that you have the means to fund your trip in their country, and that you will be returning to your home country.
Proof of identity
This of course, is your passport and your birth certificate.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statements, credit card documents stating your credit limit, payslip
Proof that you’re not going to be an illegal immigrant
Certificate of employment if you’re already working or certificate of enrollment if you’re still studying

aug.5 po ako nagpasa sa via alegro centre, aug.6 nareceived ng embassy. Aug.14 ngrant then aug.21 ko nakuha ung result dahil nadelayed ang delivery . First time ko po and bf ko po sponsor ko.

I submitted invitation letter from my bf and from a friend of him just in case any need arise, copy of my sponsor’s passport’s biopage, drivers licence, tenancy agreement as proof of accommodation, phone bills, payslips, employment contract, bank statement of both (my bf and me ), nso bc, wu receipts as proof of support, itinerary during our local trip, photos together plus my family as proof of family ties, copy of my pas.sport’s biopage & emails. But then, the processing officer at Via Centre handed me back the emails, wu receipts, my nso itinerary while saying I’ll find use of them in my future application, also, she only borrowed my original passport and scanned it. Don’t worry sis, for sure you’ll be granted. Have faith and keep on praying. Goodluck po sa ating lhat. By the way, ung docs po ng bf ko was signed by a jp and my passport biopage was notarized.
In my intent letter nman, I indicated the months I intended to travel and that I will be back for sure to spend Christmas and New Year with my daughter and family.

hello ommel hindi na sa ngayon isasali ang original pasport mo, ang isasubmit mo lang clear photo copy first page of your pasport….kasi through letter na yung result ng visa natin….

Hi po, I’m Maria ,26 yrs old, i was married to Australian citizen, in Sydney..kinasal po kami ng husband ko twice.. January 23 2013, Civil Wedding and January 26 2013, Church Blessing.. My husband visited me twice already..We suppose to lodge partner visa, but they said it took 8 months or waiting or more to be granted..all our papers are all ready.. kaya lng for us 8 months is too long, he is working and busy to make money in Australia ,for this he dont have time to travel back here in the Philippines..kay nag plan nlng kami na mag apply for tourist visa….kaya lng Wala po akong work,no employer no payslip,no credit cards..i have bank account pero rarely ko lng po ginagamit kasi pinapadalhan ako ng hubby ko via western union..de ko nilalagay sa bank, wala din po akong BIR or tax return… so paano po yon..??? please help..thanks poo

hello, dito na me sa Adelaide, last monday (Aug. 26, 2013) ako dumating dito and super lamig pa. pag araw super init the sun but the breeze is very malamig pa lalo na pag hapon and gabi super lamig talaga… Hope to see you here sa Adelaide rose & anna marie.. 3mos po, multiple entry valid for one year. You can travel back and forth to Oz hanggang maconsume mo po ung 3mos kpg nbgyan k ng multiple entry.

Daisy pde mo pa pong gmitin ung granted visa mo kpag d ka nakapgtravel ngaun basta pasok pa po sa validity period . Hndi po kc lahat nabbgyan ng 1 year , in some tv grant notice last date to arrive/last date to travel was indicated , so better read carefully the grant notice once you have it.

yes isasama mo lahat yun sa 1envelope long na kulay brown ,clip mo na lng ung docs mo then sayo para di magulo tapos ung pictures lagay mo sa maliit na evelope ok lng naman yan kahit short , akin puro short bondpaper some are long hihi , then ung invitatioon letter oo pwede scan yan akin kasi print ko then pinapirma ko sa bf ko nandto din kasi ung bf ko sa pinas pero ung sa dad niya scan yun na may pirm wala rin un JP ,sa manager check naman 5200 may banko ka ba punta ka lng dun then tell them kukuha ka ng manager check tapos sabihin mo pay to australian embassy , salamnt and gobless may example dto na intent letter read mo na lng sa old comments goblesss waiting rin ako ng result san granted tayo lahat dto salamt

Wag ka munang kumuha ng travel insurance sis, having a booked ticket or travel insurance is not assurance that your application will be granted. Better wait for the result before doing so, to avoid waste of money or cause you any hassles. Also, there’s no such show money or bond…but if you got money in the bank better print a bank statement and include it together with your docs. Sis, you can lodge your application personally at Via Alegro Centre, Magallanes, Makati. Goodluck po, and to everyone who is waiting for their result.

hello rose, mga Oct. 26 o Oct 27 uwi ko Pinas rose. Pumunta ako office ng singapore airlines yesterday para mag pa re-book ng ticket kasi Sept 15 sked ko uwi but I want to extend up to Oct. 26 o 27. Nag wara-wara ko sa City kahapon rose, ako lang mag isa kasi nasa work si fiancee hehehe. It was fun and exciting rose. F just dropped me sa King William St. then he went to work na hahaha.. I really had fun roaming around the city. I bring my tripod with me so I can still took pictures of me, LOL. I had fun watching magic and singers perform at Rundle Mall, and had fun watching the Asians (Chinese) eat there lunch (nag baon ang mga chinese rose then doon sila kumakain sa may space where in may mga nag perform sa may Rundle Mall). Then I went again (I was there last year) to The National Library, So. Australian Museum, Adelaide University, The Gallery and I also watched a Rally for Marriage Equality at the Parliament House then sa may National Library ako kinuha ni fiancee..

June – August ann is winter sa Australia so today is the 1st day of Spring here but still malamig pa rin ann… Sept – Nov. is Spring… Dec. – Feb is Summer then March – May is autumn… hope to see you guys.. Pero may bf din ako dun, sa Lake Cargelligo, kakagaling nya lang dito, kakauwe nya pagkatapos nung typhoon Maring. Umuwe sya last August 23.
May environmental organization kasi kami, yun bf ko nag member sya online tapos dumalaw sa akin, pero talagang plano na ng org namin na umattend ng seminar kasi malaking tulong yung matututunan namin dun sa organization namin.
Pick up kahapon, sa 26-27 ang seminar. Certificate ng org, Letter ng org President sa embassy, dollar at peso account bankbook na joint acct. ng Vice at ng President namin (xerox lang). Invitation letter ng host org sa Oz, invitation ng volunteer host para sa accommodation which is my bf p, copy ng passport nya. PP bio page, itenerary, document check list, managers check Php5900 na ngayon at visa size photo (2) at form 1415.
Saglit lang yun time frame, pero I hope ma grant tayong lahat!!!
@ Lynn, hello, ano na balita sa visa applcation mo. Yun sakin nareceive ng embassy nun september 3 tapos september 7 naka receive ako ng text na nadispatch na nila. Yun Air 21 sabi idedeliver ng 7 kaso nadelay sa air21 ngayon daw idedeliver. Parang ambilis, I pray for positive result. 3 days lang kasi I expect its a grant notification pero syempre kabado pa rin ako.

Til now wala ako na receive na email na na receive na ng embassy…kinakabahan ako Jing…is it possible Hindi ka nila e Email na na receive na nila? The lady who assisted me said it will be in embassy the nxt day…and also I choose to pick up the result sa alegro instead deliver…

hello Lynn, good morning & g’day from Aus.. Don’t worry too much about that kasi ako twice na nabigyan ng VISA GRANT NOTICE dito sa OZ at never ako nakatanggap ng email o text from the embassy na nasa kanila na ‘yong TV app docs ko. what I did was I tracked my documents using the # on the upper right portion of the receipt that air21 gave to me (picked-up kasi yong sa akin Lynn). Maybe super busy ng tga embassy kaya siguro di sila nag text sa akin, pero nag text ang embassy sa akin noong pabalik na yong shipment/documents ko, contact ko na lang daw my courier (air21) at di rin binanggit sa text kung granted ba o hindi, sobrang kaba talaga, but it’s all granted naman, thanks God for that.. Just relax, be positive and pray. God is good. Good luck Lynn & God bless..

hi po goodafternoon po sa inyong lhat sis just wanted to say that I recieved my tourist application result just this time as in naun naun lang po i did not recieved any e-mails or txt from the immigration and courier informing that they will delivered it today it’s just that kumatok cla sa pinto ko po naun at i was so surprised!!! because i didn’t expect that i will recieved it today kc wala man lang abiso or wala nga po akong news nagwoworried na nga po ako pero thank God po sobrang nervous ako knina to open it grabe po ang saya ko because I recieved Visa Grant Notice visa grant date po is khapon sept. 4, 2013 after 15 working days sa wakas I’m holding it. Salamat po sa inyo po dito 🙂

@ Lynn, naku lynn nakipag away nako sa Air21 kagabi. Di daw makita ng delivery man ang address namin. Sept 7 pa sila nagtext hanggang ngayon wala pa. Sabi ko na pick up nyo yan sa same address, nakita nyo address ko nun pick up tapos delivery time di nyo na makita. Grabe, yun excitement ko napalitan ng nega! Tumatawag ako sa kanila every hour puro maghintay po kayo basta inischedule yan today kaya idedeliver yan sa inyo. Tapos wala pa din??? Nun pick up naman tumawag delivery boy nila para magtanong ng nearest na landmark eh bat ngayon 4 days na d pa nila makita?!!!

@ Lynn, hi lynn dumating kagabi yun air21 bandang 10pm na. Pinuwersa ko ng konti. September 5 pala na-approve visa ko september 3 nila natanggap ang docs. 3 months stay. Glory to God. Wait ka lang ng konti sure granted ka din, parang easy sila ngayon magbigay ng visa 🙂

Sa concern mo walang problema basta you should leave the country after 3 months. Kung alis mo is oct 12 and jan 12 ka babalik pwede wag lang 13 kasi 1 day kanang nag over stay. Dati ako oct 11 pumunta ng perth them back jan 11 no problem naman. Ngayon 3 times consecutive years na akong pabalik balik with my multiple entry visa :-). Good luck have a safe trip

Mga ates…i just got my visa grant notice this afternoon..finally…i lodge on 27th og aug and then they got it on 29th…i receivd a txt msg saying they got it already…and then the decision date was on september 6 ..so all in all 6 workinh days lang na.approve kaagad..i was just thinking na it would be a month of waiting…ill be flying to melbourne on 25th of october…3 months..maraming salamat sa lahat ng mga ates who helped and to this blog..sana magrant din kayong lahat..i ddnt receive any msgs from the embassy na nadispatch na nila..2go ang courrier..isa na lang poproblemahin ko…board exam..ajahh!! Maylenearanas yung ticket mo yan, proof mo yan kung halimbawa grant yung visa mo so may proof ka na makakabalik ka sa pinas kapag expired na visa mo sa aussy..
Hello ate..for me itenerary is ano yun plan mo dun like what places you will visit there,the dates and others d po ako sure pero sa akin po tourist visa ako..i didnt put anything as my itenerary…application form po ate u can download and print that online..or u can just ask the via office for a copy and u can pay them for it…pertaining to the agency and the via ate hindi ako nag agency..coz i was thinking same lang naman ang processig ang pag gather ng documents plus if ur in an agency mas mahal ,what i did was i read some of the commnts here and then after that naglodge na ako sa via…sa agency sila ung magpass sa via…im not really knowledgable about it ate so if u need 2nd opinion just ask other ates here po..thanks.i hope my answer is helpful..God bless
